New Unearthed Arcana: Revised Artificer

  • 118
The Artificer Returns, and it's a better Beast Master than the Beast Master ICYMI, enjoy! It's got two new subclasses, new spells, and some tweaks to multiclassing. Plus, you know, typos. Now to the meat of the matter. The Battle Smith. Everyone's better at having pets than the poor Beast Master Ranger. Discuss!

Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

  • 201
New playtest material fro WoTC. https://media.wizards.com/2018/dnd/downloads/UA_Sidekicks.pdf I think this would be my DM's nightmare if implemented.

Unearthed Arcana: Of Ships and The Sea

  • 123
Interesting. There's an old AD&D 2e "blue book" with that title: Of Ships and the Sea

Unearthed Arcana: Dragonmarks

  • 54
There, is a text error in the pdf, with the description of the mark of scribing overwriting part of the description of the Mark of the Sentinel. The Mark of Making looks far more useful to adventurers than the others: 2 wizard cantrips and can make a temporary magic weapon -very useful at low level when magic weapons might be unavailable. The Healing and Detection Greater Dragonmarks look...

Unearthed Arcana August: Races of Ravnica

  • 124
I don't know modern MtG or Ravnica other then what we have been talking about on here and at D&D the last few weeks...but quick look I like this. Vedalken sound like I could totally play the blue elves like 'mystic elf' and 'magician of black chaos' from yugioh. I think I really like the race even if I never heard of it before.

Unearthed Arcana: Giant Soul Sorcerer

  • 71
I like the bonus spells and all the different things that vary by giant (dragon sorcerers and circle of the land druids should have this kind of variety), but it seems like it is trying to make the melee sorcerer without a lot of things that are good for melee. It is a strange day when the hill giant origin makes for a "better" fit than many other types. I might have given the fire giant...

Unearthed Arcana: Centaurs and Minotaurs

  • 234
As a Dragonlance junkie, it’s interesting to see how they’ve pulled back the damage on the minotaur to make it more workable as a player race (I imagine that working with the Volo races gave them a better baseline). The Hybrid Nature mechanic is interesting here, especially given the number of Fey Ancestry races that we’ve seen so far (who aren’t both Humanoid and Fey), as well as the...

Unearthed Arcana Presents The Cleric's Order Domain

  • 65
1) I'm glad those archetype designs appear on UA, most of them are wildly exotic and the concept behind them is real interesting. 2) This domain is probably one of the first cleric domain to actually interests me. I love the cleric class chassis, but most of the domain dont inspire me much (maybe the knowledge domain, but since I play with a bunch of murderhobbos, the features are useless)...

Into the Wild: New Unearthed Arcana Covers Wilderness Exploration

  • 91
Ohh the Nentir Vale - Moon Hills example that Mearls had showed a screenshot of before. Nice.

Spores, Brutes, and Inventors: Unearthed Arcana Brings You Three New Subclasses

  • 128
While I like the mechanics behind Brute, do we really need another generic fighter? Champion already does that pretty well.
Four New Elf Subraces in Unearthed Arcana
  • 160
This month's Unearthed Arcana article gives us four new elf subraces to playtest. "After the positive response to the eladrin a couple of months ago in Unearthed Arcana, we decided to explore four more elf subraces: avariel (winged elves), grugach (the wild elves of Greyhawk), sea elves, and shadar-kai (deathly servants of the Raven Queen)."

WotC's Mearls Presents A New XP System For 5E In August's Unearthed Arcana

  • 156
I have to say...not terribly impressed with this month's article... http://media.wizards.com/2017/dnd/downloads/UA-ThreePillarXP.pdf I think my thread should be closed. So I repeat myself here: Streamlined and probably very useful. I think level 1 and 2 should get an accelerator. Should be considered tier 0 probably.
Unearthed Arcana: "Greyhawk" Initiative
  • 311
The latest Unearthed Arcana by WotCs Mearls is up. "Mike Mearls introduces an alternative initiative system, inspired by AD&D and the journey to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin—the birthplace of D&D—for Gary Con 2017. While the initiative rules in fifth edition D&D are great for keeping the action moving and being easy to use at the table, the Greyhawk initiative variant takes a different approach. These rules add complexity, but with the goal of introducing more drama to combat."

Unearthed Arcana: Feats for Races

  • 187
I find this line mystifying: "These feats don’t assume that multiclassing is used in a campaign." What are they trying to say here? Do these feats become unbalanced when combined with multiclassing? Also, some of the feats significantly alter a character's body. Barbed Hide, for example, endows a Tiefling with a barbed hide. That's not the sort of thing that you can acquire through...
Unearthed Arcana: Get Better At Skills With These Feats
  • 516
The latest Unearthed Arcana from Jeremy Crawford and again featuring guest writer Robert J. Schwalb introduces a number of feats which make you better at skills. Each increases the skill's primary ability score, doubles your proficiency bonus, and gives you a little bonus ability. "This week we introduce new feats to playtest. Each of these feats makes you better at one of the game’s eighteen skills. We invite you to read them, give them a try in play, and let us know what you think in the survey we release in the next installment of Unearthed Arcana."

Unearthed Arcana Explores Downtime Activities

  • 116
This is EXACTLY what I wanted and EXACTLY what the game needed. Then there's this: "For more information, see “Brewing Potions of Healing” in this section on crafting and “Scribing a Spell Scroll” on page Error! Bookmark not defined." (p. 7) :erm:

Unearthed Arcana: Starter Spells; Plus UA Returning To Monthly & Sage Advice Returning

  • 322
Chaos Bolt is the first Sorcerer-only spell. Interesting. What I've read so far looks really good. I like the idea of Ceremony quite a bit, but some of the effects (Investiture!) might be a little overpowered.

Unearthed Arcana Gives You Subclasses For Monk, Ranger, and Paladin

  • 132
The paladin unarmored ability is pretty amusing for a druid paladin multiclass. Overall I like the flavor and ability of all three sub classes.
5E Psionics Alert! The Mystic Is Back In Unearthed Arcana
  • 382
It's back! The long-awaited new version of the mystic - 5th Edition's psionic class - is here. "The mystic class, a master of psionics, has arrived in its entirety for you to try in your D&D games. Thanks to your playtest feedback on the class’s previous two versions, the class now goes to level 20, has six subclasses, and can choose from many new psionic disciplines and talents. Explore the material here—there’s a lot of it—and let us know what you think in the survey we release in the next installment of Unearthed Arcana." Click the image below for the full 28-page PDF!
