Sean's Christmas Special Picks of the Week 2015

With this being the holiday week for Christmas, I sort of gave myself the week off from my regular Picks. "Sort of," in that I decided to do a bunch of Picks on Monday. Since I have some time and headspace to pull that set together for this space, here you go. As you can see, the postings include the usual eclectic collection of releases, but there's also some holiday-specific sales you'll want to check out before they completely run out.

Shaintar Guidebook: Dregordia

The latest Shaintar release in the constant cavalcade of new material, featuring what may be the setting’s most thought-provoking race.

Who…and What are the Dregordians!

Even though they look like 7 and a half foot tall crocodiles, they have emotions anyone could understand. These are a people who enjoy learning from the other races. They’ve long interacted with the Fae and have been a stalwart barrier against the Kal-A-Nar Empire’s expension to the south.

A race, strange and Alien. Some think these folk are behind the Dragon cult but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. These people follow The Way and choose logic and control over transitory feelings. Its probably a good thing…given that a moment of anger could mean the dismemberment of those less hardy races.

Come and travel in the living jungle and along the river to Ssatay. The harmony within is shown in the architecture, art and culture of this people – yet they have lived through generations of war.

This book contains everything required to base a campaign or character within Dregordia. You’ll learn the history, weapons, art, beliefs and rituals of this strange race. There’s even a bit of politics and even a secret or two we’ve shared.

A Reaper of Stone

I had the pleasure of meeting and gaming with the authors at Pacificon Game Expo this year, and they are great people as well as talented storytellers!

A Reaper of Stone is the thrilling first novella of the fantasy series of the same name. It is a rich, twisting tale with all the elements of a classic, epic fantasy story. Reviewers compare it to Game of Thrones and the works of Joe Abercrombie. It is recommended for readers who enjoy epic fantasy, myth and legend, and/or stories with a strong female protagonist.

A Lady is dead. Her noble line ended. And the King’s Reaper has come to reclaim her land and her home. In the marches of Aedaron, only one thing is for certain. All keeps of the old world must fall.

Elinor struggles to find her place in the new world. She once dreamed of great things. Of becoming a hero in the ways of the old world. But now she is a Reaper. And her duty is clear. Destroy the old. Herald the new.

Rifles of Atlantis

The true heart of Savage Worlds is its roots in pure pulp adventure, and this recent release from the Polish publishing powerhouse that is GRAmel really brings that home.

Rifles of Atlantis is a 32-page long pulp adventure for Savage Worlds, set in an alternate reality where Atlantis is about to join WWII. The players are American specialists sent to Atlantis on a diplomatic mission by President Roosevelt. But the mission might be something more than it appears to be, and the representatives of Nazi Germany are plotting… and the inhabitants of the island have their secrets as well. Who’s the real ruler of Atlantis? What are the secrets of Fist of Gods?

The adventure contains enough setting material and story hooks to be an introduction to a pulp campaign of your own, or it could be a stand-alone experience – we have provided a set of four pre-generated characters.

Nazis, mutants, ancient undead psionic priests, Atlantis – all that awaits your players.

Tomb of Tiberesh

Kobold Press continues its high-quality 5th Edition D&D support with this Egyptian-flavored adventure.

Tomb of Tiberesh is an adventure for the Southlands Campaign Setting for five or six 2nd-level characters and uses the 5th Edition rules. It is easily adapted to any fantasy desert campaign.

Just outside Per-Bastet, in the kingdom of Nuria Natal, lie the newly discovered remains of Anu-Asir, a city once believed to exist only in myth. The ruins of Anu-Asir lie submerged under accumulations of sand, floodwater, and tall tales. It is now a hub of activity for those seeking to uncover its secrets—and profit from them. Droves of the curious, hopeful, greedy, and eccentric congregate around the unearthed city.

And just outside Anu-Asir, across the River Nuria, lies the most recently surfaced relic: the Pyramid of Tiberesh. Dare you explore its deadly mysteries?

To top it all off, here’s some sales and holiday bundles for you to enjoy!
