In year of the lord 1716, a group of slingers from the Royal Society discovered the remains of the late Dutch surveyor and geographer Clement Birkenbosch. Stories swirled around the discovery of his body, some tall, others terrifying, but as with everything Birkenbosch was involved in during his life the truth is shrouded in mystery. It is said that in his satchel they recovered various journals and half-written notes as well as more thorough and systematic examinations of the monsters of our world. Included in the find were Birkenbosch's own sketches of more than 30 vile and mysterious beasts he had encountered on his travels, including vampires, werewolves, witches and, incredibly, one of the legendary creatures of the deep, the fabled kraken.
