D&D 5E The Spy Game is a 5E-Powered Espionage RPG

Espionage has joined the long list of 5E-powered genres with The Spy Game from Black Cats Gaming, headed up by Sam Web from Modiphius. It describes itself as "... a world of international stealth and intrigue in a modern setting, powered by 5E, from the developer behind Star Trek: Adventures." And it's on Kickstarter!

"Delve into a world of spies, assassins, diabolical masterminds and suave secret agents.

Peer behind the curtain of society into the world of the Agencies and take your place as a world class spy. Together with your crew of con-artists, specialists, infiltrators and hackers you will influence, subvert and overcome any challenge.

Will you topple corrupt governments or protect the interests of the highest bidder? Will you take out the target before they achieve their aims, or aid them? Will you counter worldwide threats, or become them yourselves? The Spy Game places your own intelligence agency on the world stage, where the promise of adventure waits for you!"

It uses the 5th Edition mechanics, with new eight classes: Face, Hacker, Infiltrator, Martial Artist, Medic, Ranger, Soldier, Technician.

You can grab a quickstart already. It contains a preview of the rules, a three-part adventure, and eight pregenerated characters.

Huh. There was a spy-RPG called "Espionage!" back in the 80s, too, IIRC.
Later re-named Danger:International…

Edit: Oh, wait, I read it backwards, the /title/ is Spy Game, and 'espionage' was the genre...

WotC should talk with the 3rd party publishers about ideas for a d20 Modern 2.0. for example a module to add more abilities scores, and a special system for XPs reward and challenge rating for the (I call it) "Cobretti effect", like in the movie "Cobra" where Brigitte Nielsen's character couldn't face night slasher, the main antagonist, only to hide and run away like in a survival horror, but Sylvester Stallone with enough weapons and ammo could kill him and the complete cult of the new dawn.

They better have rules for skeet surfing...

Always love me a good "spy game". I have played Top Secret and Espionage in the long forgotten past. I wanted to play Spycraft when it came out, but could not get enough players interested. I like what I am seeing so far with this RPG.

I am completely underwhelmed based upon this preview. I would rate it on the level of Foundation: A World in Black and White, a terrible d20 superhero rpg. Thankfully, however, the designers appear open to feedback in shaping the game. Hopefully, the feedback they receive improves the game. In the meantime, depending upon my espionage needs, I will stick with Savage Worlds, Top Secret SI, HERO, GURPS or, for a class/level based game, either True20, d20Modern (using Blood & Fists for martial arts , a couple of house rules (mostly drawn from Unearthed Arcana), possibly one or two other d20M third party supplemen), or a low level Spycraft game.
