OOC: it says on the sheet move action, it makes no sense ti have a weapon that only fires every second round. Are you sure there isn't some gunslinger class feature that lowers the time?

Teea quickly reloads the weapon and another thundering shot shakes the dust in the small room. This one, equally precise, with the creatures ability to maneuver limited by greater number of people in the room, seems deadlier - the bullet slams into the unbleeding body with a solid thud. Her face blank, focused fully on exact movements needed to reload the weapon quickly, the girl seems in a...

Prestidigitation would be very useful on a ship -- not only does it save water in getting you and others clean and washing clothes, but it also can be used to scrub the decks, which is needed to help keep them walkable by others.

(Admittedly, I am a heretic on this, as I firmly believe one shouldn't optimize skills by going for the highest numbers. I think Proficiency in Athletics is arguably more important for a character with strength 10 or 12 than one with strength 16.)

Yeah, I wasn't clear -- sorry. I do understand you, but I stand by my thought. I like that classes don't give you automatic skills. I can build a rogue without stealth (and there are lots of reasons to do so), or a cleric without religion. And, for the most part, the system holds up allowing those choices. You are right that Ranger/Stealth makes sense, but so does Ranger/Survival (arguably...

I love that classes don't automatically give "required" skills. It's one of the big strengths of 5e, that that falls to backgrounds. I've played several clerics, but none have been acolytes (which is one way to guarantee the Religion skill, even if it's not taken as a class skill). I have played a fighter acolyte though, and it was a blast, with him insisting on proper holy rites when the...

Theremin will lie down, above the stairs but not where they meet the floor the party is on (above the first stair on the lower level). He'll only let the tip of his bolt and his head pop out to see, and be ready for Kobolds. ...

I would just let the Familiar have an intelligence of 11 and be done with it (cf. the Int for an Imp). The idea of a Kenku with a Raven familiar is awesome, and because of the family relationship, the player will (should) be reluctant to just use the familiar for target practice -- the opportunity to create the dynamic would make for interesting stories.

The default assumption is that you must BOTH break the line of sight AND get the DM’s permission for it to work. JUST breaking the line of sight is not and never has been the default, as the default also requires that the DM decide that the circumstances allow for hiding. It would be perfectly, in the rules, for the DM to say that once you have been seen in combat, you can no longer hide, because...

They have not invested in improving the core abilities (ASIs are another way to raise performance on an untrained skill). The game provides ways to improve your rolls to skills,...

You can Hide in Plain Sight with the Skulker Feat. You just need to be lightly obscured, as in dim light. Grappling rules confusing? Never! I think Rules-wise, it is possible for one of us to Grapple Chrysagon (helped by another?), and then move him. If we move him out of the reach of the vine, then its grapple would break. With that reach it may take two turns (since movement would be halved). In the intervening turn for the vine, though, it would attack and do damage, and perhaps draw the player...

No, I absolutely get it. And I'm with you. That's why I thought antitoxin might help - on the next round's save?. My players fear meeting gnolls because of their Rampage ability, which I think only makes sense in terms of taking a bite out of the foe they have just downed. (not a suggestion, by the way)

Miss Imogen steps forward, and falls at Chrysagon's body. The pulsing vine seemed to tighten as she approached, little fibers on its surface standing to attention. It was too thick for her to pull away easily, she saw. Reaching into her pack she removed the one remaining healing potion, and poured it down Chrysagon's throat. Behind her Weed had grabbed one of the antitoxin vials, and added it...

Excellent. I'll post now. Thanks all for the responses. We know where there is healing potions and antitoxin. (Thanks Fitz). There were DMG errata on poison, but they don't impact us right now. My question is whether the damage done by the poison is going to continue when he regains consciousness, and I think the answer is no. But I guess we'll see. :D

Potion audit. Okay, here is what I have been able to see: 1. Silvertusk gives Imogen three potions at IC 631. 2. Two of these have been used: IC 1295 (Tarri), 1399 (Chrysagon) 3. Imogen thought about using one at IC 1300, but they took a short rest instead. So she has one. Also: 4. Rodrigo finds a potion and takes it (IC 704, 706).

Sorry, team -- we seem to have stalled. Antitoxin: is preventative. Miss Imogen has two doses, and Harb has one that I know of (IC 704, 708). Healing potions: I think I have been lax here. My character sheet lists three potions, but I know at least one has been drunk, and possibly 2 or three. I didn't keep good records oon this, I'm afraid. I'd like there to be one left, but if anyone's...

You don't have any Assassin characters at your table because checkmate rules make them obsolete. Who would choose to be an Assassin when they can get a better benefit through house rule? That's my problem with that houserule. When a Houserule grants abilities normally only granted to a specific class, but but gives them to anyone who wants it, that is a problem. If they wanted to be able to...

I said it before. There doesn’t need to be any special checkmate rule. If you can’t One Shot a creature, it’s because you aren’t experienced enough to do it. HP and damage are indicative of how experienced and powerful a creature is. A lvl 20 Ranger could easily One Shot an orc. A lvl 1 Ranger couldn’t. They don’t have the experience. Sure, they have training, but the lvl 20 Ranger is more...

I'm not going to read it all, but i read the first few pages. The only time I give an insta kill is if the target is asleep. Otherwise, HP doesn't necessarily mean how tough they are. It means you didn't hit them somewhere that would kill them. I saw someone mention granting a Rogue's Sneak Attack. I'm sorry, but that's rediculous. The Ranger isn't a Rogue. Sure, it's a great spell. If you want it, though, you commit to at least 2 levels of Ranger (or 6 of Lore Bard). Just that represents a big choice. That damage is the same bonus as two levels of Rogue, assuming you can get Sneak Attack in - so not equal (HM is a bit better), but not a necessary choice, given the defensive abilities Rogues get at 5 and 7 (which are substantial for survivability in...

...advantage for Perception and Investigation unless you have a light source Round 0 The kobolds had come out of nowhere in the darkness, on Owyn before he even knew what was happening. Maybe he shouldn’t have drank that skin of wine. Maybe he shouldn’t have been traveling alone. But he’d thought Essess was pretty safe, and he was only just off the road. Now he was coming to in darkness. A dim flicker of light came from a torch on the wall, casting a shaky pool of light. The darkness seemed...oppressive and ominous, the light struggling against it. He was in a dungeon of some kind, metal bars surrounding him. A thick wooden door with a barred window in it showed further torchlight beyond. “H-Hello?” a voice came from the darkness. There was movement in the cell. “Are you awake yet?” It was a woman’s voice, raspy from disuse -- or screaming and crying. A gentle hand touched Owyn’s face and someone offered a skin of water. It was brackish and warm, but wet. You aren’t really in the dark, at least on this level of the tower with the big windows. The light is Dim, so if you don’t have Darkvision you will be at Disadvantage for Perception and Investigation unless you get a light source. Once you leave the top level into the tower below, you will be in the Dark, so all Perception will be at Disadvantage. 2. Yes, spell slots gained from leveling up, as well as the new hit points, are available. As Theremin and Mindra made their way down the stairs, they heard what sounded like panicked screaming. As they descended, they found they were leaving the light behind “Kobolds found ghost,” Sayine said, interpreting the Draconic for Theremin. ...t rain Round 0 Liam looked out over a rather dark, desolate landscape. Where once the green grass of late summer had waved in a warm breeze, the air was cold and dry and the grass gray. The trees of the Ravesnwood and Cold Wood had either lifeless branches or brown, dead leaves rustling like bones in the light rain, the wind sounding like moaning voices, giving it a dead and haunted aspect. The road still stretched to the distance, but it was broken and uneven, desolate. The sky was cloudless, but there was no sun, merely a diffuse lightness that made it dull grey. The tower itself seemed much as it had been before, but now it was whole, and made of a dark obsidian stone, as black as night. It was also free standing, with no hint of the other outbuildings they had seen before. The wall surrounding the tower as complete, the same black stone, with strong, black gates closed shut. The entire construction seemed more angular, sharper, more...sinister. Also, the big boulder that was in the room is gone, and the tower is more or less whole, though the stone seems...darker. All that is in the room is the big table marked with the arcane runes. The bodies of the kobold sorceress and her ambush drakes are still in the room, as well. And you can hear panic from what sounds like more kobolds coming from below. So just let me know what you want to do. Her wings stretched out, knocking the black stone ball from the pedestal, sending it rolling with a clatter off the table. Constitution save: 1d20+1 15 “Oh!” Sayine exclaimed, blinking as her vision cleared. “I can see again! Yee!” she cheered excitedly. She crawled over to Theremin and licked his face. “Mindra needs help. She hurt!” she told him, looking at the unconscious and bleeding elf. “Where are we? Why it so cold?” Indeed, a chilly breeze blew through the open windows of the tower, definitely not the late summer warmth of a few minutes ago. DC 14 Con now to recover blindness. Liam is immune to that already, I guess LOL And Mindra should make a Death Save (she has 1 Fail). Sayine will Help and provide Advantage to a Medicine check to stabilize her. ...this, but he does remember some stories he has heard about the tower. Eobald Bredon (the Mad) was the younger brother of the Count of Oldhold. He built his wizard tower on the old family estate east of Bredonshire in 675. The estate collapsed mostly due to neglect, but the tower remained, though no one knows what happened to Eobold, as the Sheriff of Bredon and the Count of Oldhold lost contact with the mad mage. The tower lay abandoned and rumor-haunted until 842 when Essess rebelled against the Empire. Sir Ghaves Ledet and his friend the mage Ebrehem Caravon garrisoned the tower, along with a company of elves led by Silvor Dawnwhisper. Ebrehem and his apprentice Iarno Albarek attempted to unlock the tower’s secrets. While Ledet was off fighting a Helveki force in the Ravenswood (Cragmaw Castle), Eobald’s Tower was besieged by an Arideen force. To this day, no one knows what happened to the two armies, and the tower has lain abandoned as cursed. Around the edges of the table, spaced evenly, were hemispheric depressions carved into the table, the same size and depth as the raised center cup. Inlaid above each depression, and on the cup itself, were glyphs made of arcanite.. As Liam circled the table, his foot kicked something, and he heard it rolling further under the table. Investigating, he found a small black ball of obsidian about two and a half inches in diameter. It had an arcanite glyph inlaid on it as well. Liam noticed that the glyph matched one of the glyphs by one of the depressions. You know that arcanite is a rare gemstone that has the property to store and direct magical energies and is therefore useful and prized by wizards and other practitioners of magic. You recognize the glyphs as arcane symbols as magical glyphs that represent the various cosmological planes. So to confirm, the Korrund is grappelef (from Gimlak) and prone (from falling from the sled). However, Gimlak I's not prone, and gets to attack with advantage, with his 1 free arm, right? Mr Koz is subject to the grappled condition, but not prone... yet. But yes, you get advantage on your attack with your free arm :)

Quick question, can Gimlak turn the sled around, have the wolfs advance their at their speed, and then run on the snow, and attack the Korrund? Or is this something he'll need 2 rounds for? I'm fine with Gimmy chucking a 180 degree turn to face the Koz and then hopping off, and then taking a move action to get into melee range. His attack would have to happen next round I guess, after initiative is rolled. Actually, I'll roll his init now.Korrud Init: 1D20 = [3] = 3 Dammit :uhoh: OK, I'm going to work on the assumption that the average party initiative is going to be higher than 3 lol. So lets give everyone two rounds of action! This means Gimmy can get his attack in, Zemy can attack too, and everyone else who hasn't posted can get a few rounds of action in before the Koz chops off some heads :)

Regarding initiative, my experience is that group initiative is better. This is especially true if we have folks that take more time to post, and delay combat (it can easily take 1 week per round of combat). Lets see how we go this round and take it from there. My main concern was Zemryn, who might want to maneuver and bit and get some range weapon shots in, before Gimlak gets into melee with the last Koz, leaving her and Faenala only a wolfie to pick on :) From round 2 onwards we can probably loosen the initiative order up a bit, and move to group init. Sound alright?

Gimlak initiative: 13 Regarding the die roller sites, I'm used to coyotecode, and don't know the other one. My preference is to be lazy, and not have to figure out another site ;-) I'm also quite comfortable with the enworld dice roller. It's simple, and you can't edit your rolls afterwards, so it's tamper proof. I'm not using it for this game because you speficied coyotecode, but my real preference is for the enworld dice roller. Cheers,SG Hi Steve, I like Coyote too for its simplicity. Will check out the enworld roller too, as that sounds like its probably the best (and easiest) option :) Thanks!

Interesting indeed :) Just for clarification, how much of what's being said can Rolin hear? Your perception check was pretty sweet, so definitely the Korrud order to halt his wolves. Probably not the exact whisperings of the main group though, although you'd hear some soft muffled voices coming from them. It looks like you'll see a slave trying to maneuver to the back of their group too, and notice that shes making a somatic movement. Sound fair? Question: can Gimlak see where the korrund are? It would make his charge so much more heroic if he did ;-) To the rest of the group: I'm planning to have Gimlak charge and possibly tackle ranged attackers. Opinions/comments? Cheers, SG I think its alright for Gimlak to know which direction to run, as his darkvisioned companions would be sharing info. He'd have to run a bit before actually seeing the Korrud for himself though. If you want to do this, we can trigger round one and initiative rolls once he is 15' away from them. From experience on these boards, we are better off with 3-4 active players rather than more, with people dropping out later. This really tends to kill the games. I personally like the way things are, but won't mke a fuss if you want others to join. Worst comes to worst, we can have some NPCs joint to fill specific roles that are currently unfilled. Cheers, SG PS: I'll be travelling overseas next week yet again, so I apologize in advance if I am not as responsive. Feel free to post Theremin meeting Mindra for breakfast. And good luck with the travel.
