Goodsport started a thread Blood & Treasure
The series premieres tonight with its first two episodes back-to-back, followed by one hour episodes for the next several weeks. The show seems like something in the vein of the Indiana Jones movies, National Treasure, Uncharted, etc. Maybe even a modern-day version of Tales of the Gold Monkey without the seaplane? Considering that the two leads are apparently ex...

  • 02:03 AM - Zardnaar quoted Goodsport in post Galactic Civilizations 3 or Stellaris?
Thank you everyone for your help and input. :) However, I made a mistake that I'm still kicking myself over: I'd decided that if I got Stellaris, that I'd get the full experience and get all of its expansions and DLC's as well. Even by Sunday night, the prices of the base game and everything else were massively discounted but I nonetheless procrastinated. When I logged in Monday morning to finally purchase them, the sale was over and they were all at full price again. So I ended up going with Tropico 6 instead. I'll now likely have to wait quite a while before Stellaris and all of its expansions and DLC's are on sale again. :( -G They're on sale almost every month.

And don't worry, Stellaris seems to go on sale every major Steam sale.

I'll now likely have to wait quite a while before Stellaris and all of its expansions and DLC's are on sale again. :( Unlikely. Paradox title are usually heavily discounted in every Steam Sale. I am sure around Easter there will be another one, either from Steam or Paradox.

  • 10:52 AM - Tonguez quoted Goodsport in post Merry Julian Christmas!
You're calculating for Gregorian Christmas. Julian Christmas (today) is on January 7th on the Gregorian calendar / December 25th on the Julian calendar. -G Nope, I accounted for both calendars - the eighth day before the Kalends of January was December 25th in the Julian calendar too, which is Christmas, 12 Nights later is the Eve of Epiphany when the household decorations are taken down (the tree burnt) prior to the household attending the Epiphany feast (where the Church is decorated with a Tree of Life). The Christmastide ends on 2 February at Candlemass

That sounds about right, as we put up our tree just before Gregorian Christmas (perhaps a day or two). -G We aren’t traditionalists, in my home. We put that thing up right after my birthday (Dec 3), and take it down after New Year’s. We tend to celebrate Christmas and Halloween both as month long holidays. :D

In stores today. -G Unfortunately the game does not, in fact, allow my friend and I to play co-op online. Stupid.

  • 07:20 PM - MarkB quoted Goodsport in post Elite: Dangerous or No Man's Sky?
No Man's Sky has massive scope, but very little depth of gameplay. It was panned on release due to under-delivering on features, but has recently received a couple of fairly major content patches. I got quite a few hours of gameplay out of it when it was first released before getting bored, and can't say I didn't get my money's worth. I haven't played it since then, so I don't know whether the updates correct its issues. Elite Dangerous does a much better job of simulating a living galaxy, and it helps that it's our galaxy, reasonably well modeled. It is very much a case of making your own fun, but there's a lot to work with and I got several months of gameplay out of it before I got bored, then went back a year later and got several more decent weeks' worth of play. It suffers from a fairly brutal multiplayer scene, without any real policing if your preference is just to play co-operatively, and even years after release it remains constantly a work-in-progress, with features that were origina...

  • 02:51 PM - Umbran quoted Goodsport in post Birthday (11/23)!
It's no fun being old :( At 44, you aren't old. The creep of "old" is like holiday creep. Don't let them fool you - Xmas doesn't come until late December, no matter when they start putting things in stores. And old doesn't come until you're actually old. Don't buy in to the melodrama. Plus, if you call yourself old now, you will fast run out of words to up the ante on your decrepitude when you're 80 or 90.

  • 12:58 AM - JamesonCourage quoted Goodsport in post Which team will win Super Bowl XLIX?
"'Madden NFL 15' predicts the Patriots will win Super Bowl XLIX" (Monday, 1/26/15) -G "So says EA’s annual Super Bowl simulation, at least. If the Xbox One version of Madden NFL 15 is to be believed, [Brady] will nab his fourth Super Bowl ring this Sunday when the New England Patriots top the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 to win Super Bowl XLIX." So, uh, that happened. Good call, Madden 15. What a bad play call, they should have kept it on the ground! :( I actually don't think passing there was a bad call. Even the particular play wasn't bad, in my opinion. That doesn't mean that Wilson didn't make a bad judgment call on passing it, but all things considered in context, I get why they passed there.

Just wait until you're 43. :( Well, fortunately I got about 20 some-odd years before that happens. I'm glad the older a person gets the more vague the math behind their years becomes. :p

  • 06:00 PM - Dog Moon quoted Goodsport in post Birthday (11/23)!
Thank you, Dog Moon! :) It's no fun being old :( , but having an upcoming shortened work-week for Thanksgiving does ease the pain a bit. -G You welcome! I'm only 31, but I still get at least a little bit what you're talking about. Like Friday night sometimes I'm like "Yeah, let's all go do something!" but everyone is busy or with families or going to sleep early and I'm like "Man, I miss when I went to the bar with friends almost every Friday night." And yay, shortened work-week! Woohoo! Although it'll be weird since I'll work 2 days, have Thursday off and then work 2 days more.

But would it be optimized for Win 8? As for this game, it looks like they're already implementing changes based on the recent beta testing, with another round of beta testing coming sometime this fall. -G how exactly can a game that's over 10 yrs be optimized for a recent OS?

Though I understand that to keep with the Battlefield theme this game had to remain pretty much run-and-gun (at least the mulitplayer portion), I was hoping that it would've instead been closer to what S.W.A.T. 4 was (as well as the S.W.A.T. series and early Rainbow Six series in general), from the planning stage to the cautious execution stage and whatnot (speaking of which, I wish that I could load up S.W.A.T. 4 again and play it, but that unfortunately is no longer possible now that my PC runs on Windows 8.1, and it couldn't on Windows 8 before that). :( -G I played the beta and i'm not used to it yet. I hope the single player is better than what was offered in the past...as for SWAT GoG has swat 3 it might work for win 8

Are you happy or unhappy about that news? It saves me money but confirms one more god damned game company who assume their customers' only desired multiplayer experience is to vicariously murder their friends :erm:

  • 04:20 PM - Janx quoted Goodsport in post PlayStation 4 or Xbox One or Wii U?
Thanks for the info, Janx. :) -G No prob. Hopefully that was moderately unbiased. The Anti-Nintendo angle is because Nintendo has a worse track record for really bad games getting made on it, and their technology tends to be behind the Big Two consoles. So there ARE good games on Nintendo, but you can get more and better games on the Big Two. Additionally, Nintendo tends to cater to the kid market. If you are a serious gamer, there are more serious games on the Big Two. If you're not a serious gamer, Nintendo could be just fine for you (but conversely, if you have kids, there's plenty of kid games on the Big Two as well). Choosing between the Big Two strays into Religion and Politics for most people. If you're price-sensitive, go with the cheaper PS4. If an extra $100 isn't a deal-breaker, go with the brand you already own (so stay with Sony or stay with MS). There's not a compelling reason to just absolutely switch and there will be some advantages to using the same paid account on...
