What's you opinion on limiting yourself to the levels of 4E where you don't get that analysis paralysis? Wouldn´t that do the trick? So like... only 1st level? I’m in.

I thought the whole point of the essentials was to give the option to play 4e classes that are as powerful as the previous ones, but much simpler to handle. That's what I would do if a 10 year old would join us, adults. Or any other player that wasn't ready or unwilling to handle the complexity of a 4e class. That was the design intent. Delivering, on that promise, however.... (Most Essentials classes are vastly underpowered compared to their counterparts, and, quite frankly, some are virtually unplayable, or close to it, beyond Heroic tier, e.g. Binder, Bladesinger, etc.). Furthermore, the lack of flexibility of build choice (compared to their counterparts) was galling to players who found this element of 4E's design a selling point.

What does it mean "big brother/little brother feel"? Some of the Essential classes can feel [simple] or [lesser] when compared to their PHB counterpart. This is a matter of perspective and taste - as such, if it's not something you've noticed, it's not a thing to you. For myself, I find the Hexblade to be feel a bit like a "lesser" version of Swordmage with regards to implementing the Fighter/Mage archetype. In some ways, in MMO-speak, it's comparing a (let's say Wrath of the Lich King) Warrior tank with a Pally tank. One can feel a bit like "easy-mode". It's not about knocking the class - it's really more a question of preference. Hexblade was an awesome addition to the game, and I would not prefer that it did not exist.

The first encounter and general setup in Scales of War: fighting an Ogre and two hobgoblin archers. But the main idea of: you are in a bar, some goblinoid soldiers break in (WTF??) and after defeating them you find that the city/town is under attack. And you have to wade through these attackers and through the city to [insert plot here] Thanks. Looks like I should definitely check out Scales of War!
  • 07:21 AM - Bawylie quoted sfedi in post Ideas for a "Repair the seals" campaign
Hello! I'll be running a 4e campaign in Eberron, Eldeen Reaches. 2 Druids, 2 Barbarians (one with a Defender build) From level 1 to level 5. Loosely, the structure will be: Investigate strange events in the vale Figure out that the seals containing an ancient evil are broken Repair the seals while protecting the vale But I'm stuck, I'm blocked on how to answer the following questions: What was the ancient evil that was sealed? Who/what broke the seal? How can it be repaired? I know that "Daelkyr/aberrations" are the obvious answer, but what specifically? What's their agenda? Anything will be useful, it will help me get the creative juices flowing. The ancient evil that was Sealed is an Ascendant Councilor, ancient elven holy necromancer that was seduced by a daelkyr (let’s say romantically) and corrupted by an astral view of Xoriat and now all its power is a poison on the land. The councilor was sealed by heroes of a forgotten age, when they found they couldn’t...

Hope this helps a bit, let me hear you back so we can continue. Actually, I received a fine suggestion elsewhere: Power (Polymorph) Daily (Immediate Interrupt) Trigger: You take damage from an attack. Effect: You transform into a cloud of screaming ravens until the end of your next turn, or until you make an attack. While transformed, you become insubstantial and gain a fly speed equal to your speed. After taking the damage, you shift a number of squares equal to the shroud's enhancement bonus. Thoughts? And thanks for your response!

  • 08:46 PM - darkbard quoted sfedi in post Thread about Eberron Campaign Ideas
Hello, I was trying to figure out where I can post a thread asking about ideas for an Eberron campaign. This is not system specific, although I will run it in 4e. It seems "General Roleplaying Games Discussion" should be the appropriate forum Am I right? (sorry I have to ask this, I'm a little rusty after so many years of not posting here) Sounds right to me!
