Ymdar This! It is not terrible hard to construct dungeons in a way that if players stick to the rear they might at some encounter chose the difficult group of foes. Let the front assault be something hard but doable, but "scary" enough to cause that (imho absolutely calling out for alignment check) coward behavior. As soon as everybody is in position the rear side gets attacked by invisible medusas and beholders. This time if the brave front row routes, they will be covered by the petrified cowards blocking their pursuers. Rinse and repeat if necessary, at some point the players will get it. Tbh this is ridiculous behavior which is only justified if there is some heavy roleplaying reason to do this. Someone simply being a coward will of course not get the best magic items. Do not allow group item distribution in such a case. The fighter in the front row e.g.finds a shiny magic sword and as soon as he touches it is attuned to him. One thing coming to my mind reading the OPS though: I...

Ymdar Maybe kitchen sink is to loaded, what I was trying to say is that every official material seems fine for FR (which is quite ok, because FR tolerates this). It is about not only putting every available race and deity into FR but also signature adventure themes of other settings. Again, I totally understand why. If I personally would DM in FR atm I would use and convert old grey box stuff, but I enjoy OOTA as a player these days.

  • 05:11 PM - Blue mentioned Ymdar in post Help with handing out magic items
There is no "official" list, these are lists that are derived from the existing rules. Modify a few assumptions and you get different results. I find the lists a useful ballpark guideline, but that's all. You can light up your PCs like Christmas trees if you want, you'll just have to make encounters more difficult to compensate for it (which you probably have to do if you have more than 4 PCs, use feats, etc). I agree with Oofta, Ymdar - changes in assumptions. These all make some choices about baselines. Here's the assumptions for how many rolls on each table for the link I gave: expected distribution of magic items that would be generated by what the DMG refers to as a "typical" campaign in the last paragraph of page 133, i.e. seven rolls on the Challenge 0-4 table, eighteen rolls on the Challenge 5-10 table, twelve rolls on the Challenge 11-16 table, and eight rolls on the Challenge 17+ table. Next assumption is has to do with there are no per-PC rolls, it's per party. So changes in party size will impact the number of items. The link I did had a party size of 4 - different party sizes may have less per PC because it's spread more ways. This leads to this: Over the course of a typical campaign, the party is expected to find [Note: there may be discrepancies from a simple summation of the above breakdown due to rounding]: 18 common consumables 20 uncommon consumables 19 rare consumables 18 very ...

I recommend paladin of venegance/hexblade. We are still in the beginning of the adventure but this multiclass is really powerful in defense, offense and dealing with roleplaying situations. Also has a high AC.I was looking at it. It just comes online a little late for a 10 level max adventure. But if we keep the PC for another adventure I might add some paladin levels.

If you could compare this class to any movie protagonist who would it be? The fictional icons I was thinking about were Sherlock Holmes or Brainiac. I have seen the idea in a few other places, but those are the most famous.

  • 09:19 PM - doctorbadwolf quoted Ymdar in post Share your cool Warlock Patrons & thier Pact Boons!
Did anyone come up with interesting or new Hexblade patrons? I feel the vague one in the book is really bland and honestly feels boring for me. My character Raven is a Hexblade. I use the subclass for all kinds of warlock concepts. Especially any concept where the pact boon is more important than the patron. I just make the boon the thematic source of the pact.

Circle of Spores Druid? :) That's the one! Mycomancers? I think we got a winner. Sporelord Podcaster Oh. My. God. My player's will love those puns! "DMMikes?" Isn't it a little weird that mushroom-people are the ones teaching others to summon and eat mushrooms? Or are the summoned shrooms just a tool for channeling magic? Well...not so much "eat" as "use the power of".

  • 02:27 PM - Mike Myler quoted Ymdar in post Bloodweavers: Primal Power Coursing Through Their Veins
What happened to Sorcerers who use the primal power coursing through their veins to enhance their own abilities, heal or bolster allies, and debilitate or kill their foes? They're getting blessed with abilities by virtue of birth or something other than taking the matter material (the good stuff, the blood) and reworking it into magical power. There's no real use of blood as a component, only as the horse to drag their mage-cart around.

  • 06:37 PM - Paul Farquhar quoted Ymdar in post Lost Laboratory of Kwalish: A D&D Adventure For Charity
Is this a Greyhawk adventure? Are there suggestions in the adventure on how to use it in Forgotten Realms? It's only nominally Greyhawk. It has suggestions for Forgotten Realms and other settings. Pretty much any mysterious mountains would do. It does have some tie-ins to White Plume Mountain. Tonaly, it would fit in well in Chult, as an extra for ToA, but I intend to locate it in The Spine of the World, because that is where my players are.

If you can't capture what the game is about only some bits and pieces of game mechanics then maybe you shouldn't write a review about the game. Agreed, this review literally told me nothing at all.
  • 04:11 PM - Parmandur quoted Ymdar in post Lost Laboratory of Kwalish: A D&D Adventure For Charity
Is this a Greyhawk adventure? Are there suggestions in the adventure on how to use it in Forgotten Realms? Based on the free preview, it has suggestions for use in Greyhawk and the Forgotten Realms. It specifically suggests putting it in Chult, or near Waterdeep.

If you can't capture what the game is about only some bits and pieces of game mechanics then maybe you shouldn't write a review about the game. Indeed. Expand on WHY we should buy--or not buy--the game, how mechanics work, etc, but don't tease us.

  • 01:59 AM - Skywalker quoted Ymdar in post Esper Genesis: Sci-Fantasy for 5E
Can you use EG races for a fantasy game? Sure. Some are derived from D&D races but they are all usable in a fantasy game.
  • 01:04 AM - Connorsrpg quoted Ymdar in post Esper Genesis: Sci-Fantasy for 5E
Can you use EG races for a fantasy game? Yes. They appear exactly like those in the D&D books rules wise. I don't have book with me if you mean are they 'suitable' for a fantasy game. Sure the lizard guys would be, but a fantasy game with others would be cool too. In fact, I have adapted a lot of sci-fi (particularity Star Wars) species for use in D&D (and other fantasy games). I particularly like the Star Wars aquatic races and they have been used in several of my settings. :)

  • 01:47 PM - gyor quoted Ymdar in post New Ravnica Race and Guild Details Revealed
Give them an epic boon of planeswalking and there you have it. Your old high level characters could be the new planeswalkers! How cool would that be for a high level campaign? Guilds slowly waging war or stabbing each other in the back and suddenly, I mean SUDDENLY a group of planeswalkers appear in the middle of that who don’t know anything of this and now every guild wants to have them join or killed! Daring adventures in the high towers of Sharn...I mean Ravnica of course and the characters find themselves in the shoes of Planeswalker Luke! Or Jace or whatever. Who would care when your level 15-18+ group will soon try to bring down the entire town if you know they are the type of players who fail any diplomacy situation ever. Phew. I’d most certainly take part in that. There rules for Planeswalking PCs in the Amonkmet Planeshift article.

Me too. Actually a new setting with such a heavy emphasis on planeswalkers might invigorate high level characters players have lying around. Planewalkers will not be featured in this book. This book is about guilds.

  • 03:19 PM - Eltab quoted Ymdar in post Dragon Heist TPK
You could play The Sound Of Silence You can even foreshadow the tone of the adventure: use Simon and Garfunkel* if the PCs will overcome Evil in the end. Use the Disturbd remake** if the PCs should expect not to. * light and dreamy, emphasizes the warning nature of the vision * heavy and ominous, emphasizes the wrong / bad / misguidedness aspects of the vision
