I never actually said YOU or anyone else was mentally compatible. I was saying the DESIGNS are mentally incompatible. I can see where it might have come off that way, but it was not my intention. I also was not criticizing anyone, or attempting to be belittling. If anything, my thought pattern was about familiarity bias. People are going to keep posting on the matter after the Administrator told us to stop?

Well, honestly: Fate is a narrative engine, while all the game engines you're used to are simulation engines. It's perfectly understandable that you would have issue with the Fate system, since it's just not compatible mentally. I'm not sure about anybody else, but I find this attitude incredibly offensive. People have different tastes in games, as they do in anything else, but it is a conceit to assert that people are 'mentally' equipped to only deal with only one style of play. Moreover, it's an excuse. If people feel that Fate is not the greatest system in the universe, it is no defense to criticise those people with what are essentially personal attacks. It's not that they are mentally incompatible with the game - it's because they don't like it.

  • 09:57 PM - Tallifer quoted TheFool1972 in post Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]
It's not like all the other settings don't have decades of RPG books and expansions out there on ebay just waiting for you to grab them all. It's not even that much effort to shift them to 5th edition. Or even pathfinder. Or any other game system. Forsooth. While I am not very interested in Ravnica, I see absolutely no need whatsoever for new 5E books on Greyhawk, Eberron, Dark Sun or Planescape. All the fluff is already out there in hundreds of published and readily available pages, and the crunch is easy to adjust on the fly. I have been running 5E Eberron since 2016 with nary a hitch, indeed nary a moment's hesitation.

Interesting... I guess it's true. Nobody wants anything new, they just want the same things rehashed over and over. Simple truth is: This is the first new setting for D&D for years, and the overall response is... <looks over the posts> Horror and denial... I'm not surprised, but it does make me a bit sad. My initial reaction was "cool", and then when I started reading the thread I was caught totally off guard. I guess all the people who have been asking for new settings haven't woken up yet.

It's not that we don't want something new, it's that we don't want MtG in our D&D. And technically it's not a new setting, since it already exists in MtG, it's just "new" to D&D. How about something actually new and original?

Sadly, the dead tree version only available at gencon is a deal breaker. That only means nobody will ever see it. Looks like starfinder is still my goto. Pity. Nice art. The GenCon version is a Basic Rules book. The full version comes later this year.

The limited availability is only for the printed Basic Rules at Gen Con. The actual game is still being developed and is going to be released in December as three hardcover books - similar to the 5th Edition D&D books.

Just wandering in here, but just to point out: The first post was about how nice it is that the D&D players handbook is selling so well. The last posts seem to be about Bollywood, Hollywood, Inclusiveness something something? I don't have a problem with discussion, but this seems a touch of an extreme shift in discussion. The phrase "Off Topic" does not even BEGIN to cover it. So... Cool! It's nice to see an RPG doing so well in the common book market. I wonder if electronic books are shifting the numbers, or if they are included as well? I've tried multiple times to guide things back to the topic. However, when the owner of the message board himself and the mods are participating in the extreme-off-topic divergence of the thread (despite the rules supposedly disallowing off-topic stuff in a thread), I throw up my hands and surrender. OK, if people want this to be a political thread despite it having zero to do with the topic, then I guess that's what it is. Because apparentl...

    - You can get expression on an avatar, if you're willing to use some basic tricks. Simplest one is to replace the avatars head with a tv screen, and use the webcam to show the player's face. It's a cheap trick, and it works. But remember that the player's face has a set of VR goggles on...

Let me know when dead tree editions become available. I'll be there. The Starter Kit and Starship Construction Manual up there already are! They're both softcover books.
