...ery of life? No... Even after the body breaks, the soul lingers! It might even find a new host, either through possession or through necromantic rituals - should they know them, of course... Lyllie and Ajax approach the group, glancing at the unfortunate body, eaten away by the bugs. The small creatures have taken a symbiotic bond with the undead - a painful, yet useful, relationship. The small scarabs are said to have been brought up from the lower layers of Mount Amberilan. No one knows how they were tamed, though... The room's still thrown in darkness. Only the small passage, which the undead planned to use, is visible from here. Nonetheless, dark vision reveals another passage, fifteen feet to the right. This second way out seems to be a gallery that leads to another room. Beyond, only silence. [Ok, you have the small passage and a gallery to another room. Remember that most of this room is thrown in darkness. More might be revealed, if you are inclined to explore.] Neurotic Shayuri JustinCase Greenmtn

... that even they fall prey to small things such as bugs, in the end... I remember the vision of a rotting dragon within Green Valley... Only bones remaining after scarabs ate the rest away... We took the scales. They made for nice armor." - he motions in mockery once more. "Lovely to see what a skilled necromancer can do with such powerful bones... Some stitches here and there, a nice ritual and, before you know, the bones are back. Why don't you go to the Valley and ask your thin friend how it feels to be eaten by mere bugs?" - he points towards the darkness. As for the waterworks, he simply ignores the question, as if it hadn't even been made to begin with, cocking his head back to face his captor directly. "And where would this have taken you?" "Into your personal hell.... Monk." - he glances towards Harfik. "I thought your kind had gone down entirely, beyond Teraphim influence, I mean. Well, I guess there's always a fool ready to go back into servitude." - he chuckles again. @Neurotic @Shayuri @JustinCase @Greenmtn

...grimmace stares down in surprise! "THEY'RE HERE!" - the brute cries out. He's one of Hagadark's kin, easily recognized by the Shaman. Soon, three more heads pop out from the edge of the roof, looking down: another pair of orcs and a robed, masked alchemist - one of Dram's apprentices. Treachery! Hagadark's own brothers became too greedy during his absence, it seems! Bows pop up and a bomb's husk rolls around the alchemist's hand as his fingers flirt with a pouch on his belt. "Don't make this any harder than it has to be..." - a low, rasp voice comes from the robed figure. "The master wants the dagger, that's all. Hand it over and we'll let you go. Refuse, and I'll have to frisk your corpses for it." - he bends the head. Around the corner, a few feet away, the heroes overhear the muffled sound of steps. Surely more men are ready to jump into the fight, should the heroes choose to engage! [Ok, please, give me a perception roll, everyone! After that, what will you guys do?] Neurotic Shayuri KahlessNestor MetaVoid

... the second one burns his right shoulder away. The creature howls in pain as Aanzu approaches in flight. His skilled claw dances around and the creature missteps, practically falling into Aanzu's grasp! Lifted, it still struggles, but it seems too hurt and too weakened to obtain any solid results.... His light body is no nuisance to the dragon prince as well. It seems the creature will need a good amount of effort - and luck - to flee from ots captors. The undead snarls and protests, shaking its body in a desperate attempt to escape. The fires that animate the body rise through several cuts on the chest, as well as the chunk missing from his shoulder. The right arm is useless now, hanging from the open bruise, where a mass of burned bones twist against the living green display. "Aaah, you've bested me, Teraphim..." - an old, resigned voice comes from the increasingly still undead. "And what do I owe you for my precious life?" - his snark tone does not attempt to hide his cynicism. Neurotic Greenmtn JustinCase Shayuri [Yup, that was a new round! And now you have the fugitive within grasp!]

EVERYONE The heroes close in on the fugitive. The undead turns over his shoulder, grasping the aproximation of his foes just as he approaches the wall on the opposite side of the room. There, near the floor, a small opening has been carved. Clearly, he intends to jump in, fleeing from the hall! The heroes still have one last chance to stop him, but should they fail, the creature will most likely slide through the small path - and into the unknown darkness beyond! [Ok, you have one shot to stop him! You can tackle, freeze, attack or do whatever you deem best. Some of these rolls will be contested, as you can imagine. The ones capable of stopping him now are Thulwar, Aanzu and Harfik. Go ahead and give me your actions!] Neurotic Shayuri JustinCase Greenmtn

EVERYONE The back alley seems to be abandoned for a good deal of time now. Old boxes and barrels were left here to rot, covering an old cart and some fabric, now overtaken by thick, sprawling spider webs. On the opposite side of the ruined house, the cave wall spreads up, showing small caves here and there, probably dug to shelter the poorest denizens of Nerrath, long ago. Now, the entire area is boarded up, probably taken by shy arachnids and less reputable beasts. The small street stretches away in both directions, betraying a small amount of distant lights through reflections on occasional puddles, covering the floor. Swift and silent movement might still ensure a safe flight... [Ok, Morgrym and Shay to go!] Neurotic KahlessNestor Shayuri MetaVoid

...tell which exactly. DAXIO Daxio's magical detection denounces no small amount of mystic forces emanating from the riders. Aside from the nightmares - they themselves magical creatures - it seems clear that the helmets hold some sort of protective magic, as well as the armor. ...! Thulwar is the one to notice what's happening as he falls behind the trio: Tink halts right before stepping on a thin wire - the trigger to a trap! He even tries to use his left claw to halt Harfik, but it's in vain: instinctively, the monk dodges Tink's claw and continues, entirely focused on the fleeing enemy! The wire breaks under his feet, and from the floor before him a metal fence rises, plunging spikes against the monk's chest! In flight, Aanzu passes over the contraption, unscathed. The monk, though, has to act on his own instincts... [Ok, @Greenmtn, roll for Reflexes against 15. If you succeed, you dodge the thing, taking no damage and losing no speed. If you fail, you gotta choose: either 9 points of damage or stopping dead on your tracks, giving your enemy 40' of advantage - one of your move actions. As Morgrym covers the pavement with a thin, far-reaching layer of water, he realizes that no one has wandered inside unseen. But that's not all: the water begins to run out with a faint, frail noise. Upon closer investigation, the heroes discover that the water's escaping through the cracks between a set of loose bricks! A small bit of experimentation shows that they can move the loose pieces around to open a path! The passage is small, but it allows them to carefully drag themselves out into a back alley, fooling any watchers and ambushers! [Ok, you can drag yourelves to the back of the house, one at a time, and flee the scene! OOC: I read MetaVoid comment not as call for general initiative roll, but like a way to resolve PLAYERS actions in order, but before enemy acts Ok, I quoted Neurotic here so we won't clog the IC thread with rule discussion, but I'd really like to hear your opinions on this. I understand Neurotic's interpretation, but if this was MetaVoid's initial intention, would he still have to be concerned with enemy survivability? After all, casters would still wreck the enemies around, provided players got the chance to go first... Either way, I feel more comfortable allowing everyone to go first, and then working enemies' actions in a comfortable, natural order. That would kill the need for initiative. Even among players, order could be decided in an optimized fashion, instead of dice-rolling. Meaning that a boost spell would probably be cast upon an ally before said ally attacks. As for enemy survivability, it'd be easy to adapt mini-sheets to present some resistance to the ravages of a first round - something I intended to do at first during the present combat, in fact! Also, I understand that, without initiative rolls, some advantages would be...

As the monk arrives, the others are ready to receive him, along with the ooze zombies. The door opens and, for a second, a strange chill fills the room, defeating even the coziness of the hearth fire. The door shuts, and Arvana, pacing rapidly across the room, addresses her friends. "Did you just feel that? It was like... I don't know..." - the heroes feel as if they were being observed. Indeed, for a solid minute now, Hagadark, Morgrym and Shay could swear they were being surrounded, but picking out the windows showed them no visible menace... As soon as new threats appear, bard reacts, stabbing his weapon deep into corrupted flesh. Thanks to his reach, he is able to shift a bit back to prevent close combat, at least for the moment. Pulling the weapon back he attacks again making another hole in the demon, slightly to the left and under the first wound. ENEMIES Aanzu's race finishes with an assassin jumping from the shadows. He cries loudly, voicing the same curse uttered against harfik by his peer. The very nature of the words enrages the Blue Dragon, and the spirit shakes within Aanzu's body, uttering stern words in draconian. They're not hard to discern, even though in this state Aanzu can'1t tell if they are his own inner thoughts responding to the curse or the will of the spirit, fending off the darker effects of the enemy's destructive intentions. The blade spins in the assassin's hand. He crouches, dancing, feinting and moving with great speed. He swings once against the Blue Dragon's chest and misses. That is very literal understanding. Shouldn't he, as a prince, understand nuances a bit more? And sacrasm? Well, perhaps it stems from my own non-English background. I see that 'waterworks' can mean several things, and I wasn't completely sure which of those is true in this case. So... yeah. I, as a player, may have misunderstood, and therefore Aanzu did, too.

Short one, 3:1 votes. How are you with spells? Honestly I don't remember. I reset everything because I was sure that we took a long rest! Oops. Honestly, I haven't used many, if any, in quite some time. I did use a wild shape once, but I typically stick with cantrips for the most part. So, in short... I messed up. :(

Tearing at the demonic flesh always held particular pleasure to the little warrior, acrid stench and resistant, chewy quality made tearing and eating feel real and it required strength. Viridian harried poor demon-thing even as it fell down finally ending with a chunk of flesh from its side. He returns to the group, still chewing. He is covered in blood, but as he notices it he concentrates and the blood and gore sloughs off him. "I got scratched by a ghoul in that initial rush. If you can spare the power." "Here, let me..." - away from the others, the captain offers to cleanse the weapon with a quick charge from his crossbow. "Now, tell me, how are things outside these days. I take it that the Cthon never left confinement, since you didn't know of its' existence. Good. I fear what it would do, if left unchained upon a world filled with carbon-based life." - he looks at Lyllie, trying to find the answer to his own question. "Miss..." - he calls out to her. "How..." - he seems to choke on the question, unable to formulate it. It's obvious to both Harfik and Lyllie that he wants to know what happened to her. Odds are he already knows. He straights his body. "Tell me what happened. Tell me of outside. Please." - he says, with a surly face. "We felt the earthquake and you destroyed centuries of defensive works and works of art. But yes, while there were dead, it is less than you probably think. "Less than what you think?" Lyllie finally ends her silence, her frustration and anger on the v...

As the priestess turns away, Moss moves slightly, spreading his wings slightly to become visible to those at the front. He points toward the organizing peasants. Realizing they probably cannot see them from the ground he motions downward and small hand appears writing on the dust. "The people gatherin. Prepared for trouble. Agents of the temple may turn the mob against us. Dangerous if the castle occupants need live people for the rituals. Be careful. Can any of you casters cast some communication spell on me? If I'm separated and hidden I don't like to reveal myself like this." Arduniels eyes widen at the creature. He easily recognizes magic in question, but that dragon would live in this town and he is unaware of it...impossible! Someone should have seen it. Especially green one. But noting lack of reaction of his companions he concludes it is one of them and actually newcomer to the town. Sorry, missed the change.

The captain moves a lot like a human would. Trained steps and a constant stance change show he's a learned soldier. Still, his habits are strange. He leans away, maintaining one leg constantly at the back. His balance tries to prevent someone from tripping him all of a sudden. His grip on the crossbow is also strange. Relaxed, but quite sure. As all the others, the captain keeps his hand outside the guard, delaying the shot for the time of the finger-slide he'd need. He also resents Aanzu's proximity, attempting to keep the prince always in front of himself and as many steps away as possible. Since the prince moves around to keep up, he doesn't stop as well, and it looks just as if both men were performing the war dance, even as they talk. Aanzu also realizes that the soldier that fought him hand-to-hand studies him as well. He comes closer - sword-reach closer - and reaches for the base of his helmet. A short hissing sound breaks all of a sudden, affecting Aanzu's senses and combat stance, ...

Why +2 to healing? Bard? If I get +2 i don't need to spend two HD Emphases are mine. A character can spend one or more Hit Dice at the end of a short rest, up to the character’s maximum number of Hit Dice, which is equal to the character’s level. For each Hit Die spent in this way, the player rolls the die and adds the character’s Constitution modifier to it. The character regains hit points equal to the total. The player can decide to spend an additional Hit Die after each roll.

Scotley, init is 10. Rolled in the post where I asked about readied actions. Almost stunned! :) Isn't disease roll rolled once for all bites at the end of combat? Or was it 4e? [roll0] [roll1] [roll2] [roll3] <-- there had to be at least one :) Using surge (unless 1 is autofail?) ! EDIT Checked: Automatic Failures and Successes: A natural 1 (the d20 comes up 1) on a saving throw is always a failure - Viridian is diseased OOC: I'll double check on the disease roll. Gonna be busy for a day or so, but will get back to you Wednesday. I knew I saw an init somewhere, but when I went back looking I failed my perception check.

Ambush = ready action until they get to specific position how is that in combat rounds? I didn't know this rule and will be mindful of it next time. Thanks. That's the thing - it's all opinions. In Pathfinder it's not presented as a rule. Even in 3.5, it wasn't exactly presented as a rule ("Players are not allowed to ready actions outside combat"), but more like an instruction to the DM ("Don't let your players ready actions outside of combat"). It's a subtle difference, I know, but it's enough to muddy the waters. That's why there's so much discussion and disagreement around. My opinion on the "Ambush" case above: It's not in combat rounds. And even though you're "getting ready" to attack when the other party gets close enough, it's also not a readied action - not in rules/mechanics terms, anyway. It's a stealth check opposed by the other party's perception to determine surprise. I would use the surprise mechanic for this, not the readied action mechanic.

It wasn’t my intent. I risk much by charging in blindly. I get single attack. And if I don't gain Init, I am next to big bad without full attack and with lower AC. Besides all special forces ready to charge immediately after the rat or explosive opens the door. It is a feature of door to door. And ready action needs precision. Adrian needs undead for his attack both for the bane to work and to trigger the readied action. OOC: I agreed with your logic, and went forward with the actions as readied, but I've seen players try to abuse this and so thought it best to make the comment I did lest someone else see my willingness as an invite to abuse the rules.

So we made quite a noise, eh? When I said block the door, I didn't expect we will warn everyone and everything inside that we're here. (i.e. I would use wooden parts and leather straps to block the door. Unless Shayuri opens the door, I believe our new companion is ready. (going by MetaVoids description) OOC: Adrian specifically used the table, which is a heavy stone thing.

Maybe you could open rolling thread so we all roll there and link the rolls into the main thread. It will prevent multiple posts in the case of criticals or forgotten rolls or incorrect syntax in the main thread. But will ofcourse require switching tabs and linking new posts. Maybe for DM rolls and for player crits and such and 'main' rolls can still be done in the main thread?I have done that in the past as a dm. I have found that if you need to look back at a roll, it is difficult to match the rolls with the ic posts over time. While it doesn't happen often...it did however come up more than once.

Might be down your alley and rumor has it that the DM is a charming gentleman (yours trully). [emoji14] Welcome! :)
