    Double post.

Forgotten Realms box set would rock I agree 100% instant buy for me. But what should be in it? A Campaign Guide, a large detailed Map of the Forgotten Realms, at minimum Faerun, but bonuses for Kara Tur and Zakhara, super duper bonus for Maztica, Osse, Katashaka, Archome, and super duper mega ultra bonus for having a map of Abier (or the Shadowfell or Feywild) on the flip side.

  • 10:08 AM - MNblockhead quoted dagger in post Critical Hit Decks/Charts - I don't like 'em
We use the Critical Hit deck (from Nord Games) and it does not slow down the game. The deck is ready to go, just pull a card and go. It adds some variety for us and increases the danger/chaos to levels we like. Getting a limb cut off our losing an eye is part of the fun. One of the players right now is running a dragonborn with only one eye, and he is going to just keep it as part of his character the rest of the way. We don't use the critical fumble deck though. Same here. I don't use critical fumbles because it punishes characters as they rise in level. Your high-level fighter with multiple attacks is not more likely to fumble than when first level. The Nord Games crit hit deck has four levels of deadliness so you can remove cripplingly effects if you don't want to play a one-eyed, one-legged barbarian but still want a bit of flavor and variety with your crit hits.

We have a homebrew feat that anyone can take that allows two concentration spells at once. We just finished our 2nd 1st to 20th campaign and the balance has been fine. Not sure what the issue is... well, if everyone has access to it the balance between classes is fine (if the non casters don't get pissed off the casters are getting even more powerfull). The GM ajusts the encounter levels to keep up with the players and the game goes on normally.

  • 01:55 AM - Saelorn quoted dagger in post Teleport /fly /misty step the bane of cool dungeon design is RAW in 5E
1e magic-users did get one free spell per level that they could add to their spell book.Did they remove that for 2E? I remember playing and worrying about finding a second level spell before hitting level 3, because otherwise I wouldn't know any; and the temptation to play a specialist wizard, because they did get one spell for free every level. And I know that, prior to 1E at least, the books were big on empowering the DM to not deal with certain spells by simply not making them available to find or purchase. The only spells that the wizard could access were the ones that the DM specifically placed ahead of time.

  • 09:27 PM - JonnyP71 quoted dagger in post Crazy idea: 2nd ed multiclassing in 5e
I dont have a problem with level limits in 1e/2e, and we always used them as a soft cap anyway. Meaning, depending on the DM/Campaign you could use a divine wish, quest, or double the amount of XP needed to level. Exactly! The level caps worked just fine in 1e/2e. There was no expectation of ever reaching them for most characters! They were linked to stats, eg an Elven Fighter/Mage could go further if they had higher Strength/Intelligence. But using the UA amendments, even with pretty poor Strength and Intelligence an elf could reach level 5 Fighter/10 Mage - which was pretty damn powerful!

Actually no, I dont think it was a terrible idea. :) I love 1e/2e multi-classing. Here is a website someone posted a while back with some 1e/2e style rules for 5e. I cannot remember who linked it... http://bluishcertainty.blogspot.com/2017/01/5e-old-school-multiclassing-rules_29.html To be clear, the "terrible idea" was balancing via level caps and race restrictions. Do you think those are a good way to balance multi class? I will look at the link later :) Sent from my SM-G930W8 using EN World mobile app

  • 12:40 AM - gyor quoted dagger in post Lost Tales of Myth Drannor: DDAL's "Secret" D&D Book For Gen Con 50
Also who cares if its cannon? Are high levels just did a quick run into Myth Drannor to loot and old Temple. Guess what, its just like it was in 2nd Edition, because the DM thinks the 3e/4e/5e changes to Myth Drannor are terrible. I do recommend spending the money and picking up the box set on EBAY it rocks. I care, I have no interest in it if its not canon.

  • 08:11 PM - Cristian Andreu quoted dagger in post Map of the Great Wheel Cosmology
Sorry for the long delay. I lost access to my account and I hadn't changed the recovery mail since 2004! Took me months to figure how to log back in. Understandable :) An unrelated note: Did you place the Rock of Bral anywhere? Is it too small? My understanding is that it was never assigned a specific sphere (and included explicit instructions to the DM to place it in whatever sphere he wanted it for his campaign), so it should probably be in the "Worlds Without Known Crystal Spheres" section. It's not in the diagram. I set a minimum size of, I think, 100 miles (can't remember right now; I'd have to check my research notes) for objects to show up (mainly because the Astromundi Cluster would have been impossible to fit), but I thought about making an exception for the Rock of Bral. However, as you mention, the Rock does not have a unique location, and instead was meant to be moved to wherever the DM wanted. ______________ P.S.: Do you know about The Guide to the Spheres? ...

  • 04:54 AM - MechaPilot quoted dagger in post Landholds, what do you want out of it?
Lots of good and interesting feedback. Thank you all for that. Let me take a moment to reply to a few posts and questions raised. Things that come up in our games in the past and in the last year: Taxes - how much is generated and is the fief self sustaining? Buildings - I need a church to Tyr, how much does it cost? Underground - how much time and money does it take to build dungeons and the like. Can PC/NPC casters help speed up the building of stuff (buildings, dungeons, whatever), and if so, how much faster? How much game downtime? I had planned on taxes being an essential part of the system. The landholder will probably have taxes to pay to whomever allows them to hold the land, so it's worth knowing how much they can raise. Also, knowing how much additional wealth the landhold generates is important hiring people (and for general PC wealth purposes). Regarding the costs of buildings and dungeons, while that's a little more detailed than I was going to include in t...

Thank you! I am sure he didn't realize this before! You're welcome. I figured if he didn't know he wouldn't be complaining when there are obvious solutions everyone but he already knew about.

  • 10:08 PM - discosoc quoted dagger in post AAAACK, Where did my dark subdued classic look go?
Any update on this? Thank you I looked into it a month ago, as posted here. Basically, the elements for wiki threads are generated and styled dynamically when the page loads, so there's no workaround (that I've found). It's up to Morrus to configure the theme, although it's possible the theme is so old that there's no GUI support for doing so. Since he hasn't actually addressed this issue, I'm guessing you guys aren't going to see it fixed anytime soon.
  • 08:20 AM - The Human Target quoted dagger in post Water Management?
He might be already. I treat the world as a simulation as well, so its easy. You track the water use of all NPCs and monsters the players interact with and all towns they visit?
  • 03:50 AM - LegionError121 quoted dagger in post Water Management?
He might be already. I treat the world as a simulation as well, so its easy. He does things more along the lines of a "comic" :) In other words, time last longer the more I or other people do but this means that passive tasks have a jaunty sense of time :) Because of this, I have actually had to manage my character's own time (without a date or a time to work with) by frequently asking as to how much time has passed for the "Vile Book of Darkness"/"The Book Of Vecna" which requires the player to read it for a total of 80hrs ontop of its attunement in order to gain the full POWER of it :) Not so surprisingly, he was upset to find out that my character was only halfway through the book (43hrs to be precise) as he set the "war" into motion and because of that, I don't actually have the "evil magics" he expected me to have to take on the "Necrodragon", "Army of Snake People", "Trio of SUPER Powered Hags", "Long lost Warrior of the Damned" with and ontop of that, he's upset that I haven't been...

  • 10:35 PM - Blue quoted dagger in post sharpshooter math meaning
Its not broken, and it is broken. Both are opinion only, you choose. and It's not broken (provides simplistic math as "proof"). It is broken, since it's the foundation of the most damage dealing minmaxer build chain in the game, and you failed to take that into account in your math. That's not GWMs fault. Believe me, it is. In practical play, I don't care what building stones your character is using to get +40 extra damage each nova round, I just care about the fact that removing GWM (and CE+SS) makes the build impossible, something that isn't true about removing bless, or Stun, or precision manoeuvre, or Inspiration... The end. The OP was asking about adding realism, not about balance. As a matter of fact, explicitly called out looking for realism over worrying game balance in his last line. Care to address that facet instead of threadcrapping to retread a tired discussion about balance that the OP didn't ask about?

How about being disintegrated by a beholder? My 14th level bard had this happen and he was under a geas. Give him 5d10 psychic damage as soon as he's trueressed for trying to evade the geas

  • 03:54 AM - cbwjm quoted dagger in post Do you miss attribute minimums/maximums?
Well I will counter your ancedotes with others. We didnt use the UA method and when a DM boosts a score (say chr, which I think is 17), it was always the best score. So it can hurt. This is what I did as a DM in 2e. I ran a game where my friends each played an invoker. If they didn't have the 16 required for Constitution then then had to put their highest stat into Constitution which would then be bumped up to the minimum. If their two highest stats were a 14 and a 15 then the 15 had to go into Constitution and they would be left with a 14 Intelligence instead of a 15. I should probably note though that my method for stat generation back then was 4d6 drop lowest eight times and take the six best stats so chances are good that they would have something decent anyway.
