They really need to update the actual UI. So sad that this is not a part of the KS. The UI is heavily moddable and extensible, and there are a fair number of user-created extensions that add or change elements of the UI ranging from aesthetic themes to some pretty chunky mechanical alterations. I don't use any myself other than an occasional map layer add-on, but some of them are apparently quite popular.

The door has cracked open... Yeah. They're dipping their toe in the water. If this sells well, I expect that door will be opened wide. The question is, are the rumors about 2e enthusiasm being on the weak side true and this is a sign they're looking at a backup plan? My guess is no, but I can't be sure. This is pretty surprising.

The door has cracked open... It was just a matter of time. 5e is now the 800lb gorilla in the RPG room.

What are the maps like? Are they just reprints of the originals? Pretty much, they are 'newer' but don't do anything different than the originals do. They did add some things that were not in the original adventures, but those are more 'side areas' that were never covered and don't affect it if you want to use the originals as they were back then. The side areas are extra maps, not really additions onto the originals. The layout is nice, though it will be nice if they put out just the redone 5E versions in pdf, but not sure if/when that will happen. The interviews at the front are interesting and informative. My hope is they do the palace of the silver princess eventually, could be a great addition like these are.

A tv (actually a 27" monitor) with a piece of clear plexiglass on the top. I use some styrofoam blocks to keep it off the table a bit and connect a laptop to it and run MapTool on it and my DMing laptop. Then I just fog of war the whole deal as we play. If I did it again, I would get a 4k 40" TV so we'd have even more room, but this is working out just fine. Adding a +1 to the Projector / TV table idea. My group started with a downward firing projector onto a table, which was amazing. Now using a table built with a computer and 47" touch enabled TV in it. It's amazing and I highly recommend either.

We use a LED TV to do this instead, it works out really well. I've tried map tiles and flip mats, it just slows everything down. If I didn't have the TV, I would just go back to hand drawing a blank dry erase grid. This sounds cool. I've always wondered about using an LED TV or a projector for games, but always find myself going back to mats, tiles and theatre of the mind. What's your set up like for this?

It boggles my mind that FFG is doubling down on their narrative dice system, it must make them $ but I just don't understand how anyone can like it. It provides 3-axis results It provides players a chance to narrate part of the setting without leaving the trad mode of play It is easier on the math averse than many games. And that's without considering the editing, layout, and physical quality of the books and dice.

I gotta say, in the era of X-Wing miniatures those paint jobs look really rough. I know right!! This is why I feel like a snob, I know better paint jobs can be had on both complete minis and ones I can paint myself. Just wish they put more effort into them, although that would raise the price so.... to each their own I guess.
