And: Actually, this is similar enough to the nature of the Ellcrys in the Shannara novels that I bet it would make for some interesting situations and role-playing.

Such a thing pretty much implies the existence of meddling by intelligent beings. (Except, in a fantasy setting, that would be deities, not aliens.)

I include the GM as a player for these purposes. If even that person is sitting there looking at the game and not able to understand the magic, that person won’t run the game. People have been throwing around quantum mechanics ideas in this thread, so let me join in. There is an observer effect going on. The act of making a system of magic that works in a game invariably makes the magic...

Designing a magic system that feels magical may be impossible. Personally, I’ve NEVER seen an RPG magic system that felt numinous, largely because they all have to fit into the RPG system and be understood by the players.

The phrase "subvert the expectations" has been thrown about a lot lately for a particular reason. I don't think I was ever quite sure what it meant, especially since my background is in information technologies where subversion refers to a very specific thing (by now 20 year old brand of version control software). Imagine my surprise when I finally realized that subversion means the same thing as...

My dressing was that vinaigrette I’ve been making with lemon-infused olive oil, Dijon mustard, tarragon (instead of red wine) vinegar, pepper and parsley. What was different? Well, I personally see the Heavenly Host from Doctor Who as a missed opportunity in that regard. While they are made to look like angels, their faces are mostly fairly masculine, while angels are supposed to be androgynous. So in this case, “the point” would be making them more closely resemble what they are emulating. I could also see androgynous androids as being perceived as less...

You might want to check that: dwarves could be Clerics, too. (In addition, when the classes were added, they could be alchemists and psionicists as well.) Also, every race had at least one class in which their progression was unlimited. As I recall, that was Thief for dwarves. (Possibly all races.)

The last half of the trip was behind the Iron Curtain- it was still a thing, then- and I ran out of my antiperspirant halfway through the trip. “No biggie.” I thought. I would just go buy some at the hotel store. Problem #1: there were no American brands at all, nor any European brands I knew. All were Eastern European. No roll-ons, either. So I...

The most powerful PCs weren’t all spellcasters- not single-classed, anyway- and we’d run parties of different power levels through adventures. Most of the lower-tier PCs were related to the heavy hitters in some capacity. And we did rotary DMing, too.

There are some very strong, unexpected pieces of character development in that series. Not just intrinsic, inseparable in some cases. Glen Frey’s “Smuggler’s Blues” was turned into a script for the show...in which Mr. Frey played a major character. < I came across this old Playstation 1 game that I had never heard of so I checked it out on Youtube. The game hasn't aged well, but man is the sound design amazing. Even has pretty good voice acting. Anyways, I was listening to this particular track and for the longest time couldn't figure out what it reminded me of, but then it hit me. It's this old thing:

I want to clarify my view, based on some of the other responses in this thread. Many of my favorite systems- HERO, 3.X, etc,- are great for simulating a wide variety of settings with little or no tweaking. But sometimes, a system designed for the express purpose of modeling a particular bit of fiction will simply do it better, more immersively. Other RPGs are lean and sleek, with just...

It has to do with being a representative sample and the bias that self-selection introduces to the data collection process. It won’t have nearly as random a selection of hobby participants as data collected from, say, a list of 1000 people who bought games from a set of websites or a similar number of people selected entering or leaving game stores. In my 42 or so years of personal experience...

Most of the complexity of HERO is in PC creation/advancement, anyway. Once you do that, you can usually play without touching the rulebook more than a few times per session...as a group.

I play other RPGs to experience something besides the default D&D experiences. Different magic systems, different settings, different genres. Even though D&D was my gateway to the hobby in ‘77 and is still one of my all-time favorites (3.X being my favorite iteration), HERO is my #1. Even staying within other FRPGs, the different mechanics and assumptions drove different play styles and...

I can’t speak to new gamers, but I bet the sentiment against such a move would be strong with veteran D&D players. I know some who get annoyed with the lack of extra attacks in other systems.

I watched WarGames a couple of nights ago,and I still enjoy it despite how dated it is, I watched the trailer for Antitrust and I couldn't even finish that because of how poorly it aged. I did watch the first two seasons of Mission Impossible on prime,so that was good.

trappedslider I've meant to say this before, but please do make at least a minimal effort to format your posts to make them legible to other people. Five words followed by a URL without even a linebreak doesn't even qualify as a sentence, and screws up on some devices. This isn't Twitter.

Um, long time listener, lots of time caller - Isn't it about time to start another thread?? Didn't there used to be a cap on page count somewhere in the low 200 range? There was a cap in the past due to the servers being of limited capacity, however there has been a complete overhaul of Morrus' equipment and there is no longer a need to cap out at 1000 even. trappedslider: nice dice!

what spelling mistakes? Nothing is flagged for being spelled wrong. Well, ignoring the question of when is a comma or semicolon missing or not (since that can be a story telling style decision): - line 9: missing word "as" after word "smiled" - line 17: personally I'd place a second "that" after the single one - line 17: replace "mentaly" with "mentally" - line 18: replace "need" with "needed" as otherwise the sentence has a time frame mixup - third to last paragraph has the word "theartics"

well, i finished the promposal section for my story..if any of you care to read it and leave comments https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q_GGoqL2MWkJqYbdzdffSiBC6K4I0xrHpnr9TfnkYWA/edit?usp=sharing "Shoot Seth." sounds weird to me, even in the context it's said. Aside from random spelling mistakes, it reads like one of those this-really-happened-to-me diary-style novels. Which isn't a bad thing if that's what you're going for.

  • 06:26 PM - Raunalyn quoted trappedslider in post New Terminator Going to Flop? [spoilers]
Sarah Connor comes to their aid, as well as the original Terminator, for a fight for the future. The original Terminator (i.e. the T-800 that was destroyed in Terminator), or an aged model of the original Terminator? Maybe the person the T-800 was modeled after? Curious how they are going to explain this. Was it stated that John Connor was dead?

Well,it's coming back with deleted scenes included along with other surprises. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/06/19/avengers-endgame-to-be-released-with-more-footage-in-bid-to-top-avatar.html From the commentary on Nerdist News it sounds like those additional scenes are just getting tacked on the end, as stingers. They aren't dropping them into the appropriate parts of the movie.

I didn't catch EA,but I watched Beth's and well..did we watch the same thing? They apologized in a round about way about F076's launch, announced a ton of new content for it, then the other studios under Beth's portfolio announced a number of new games. https://kotaku.com/everything-bethesda-announced-at-e3-2019-1835362095 Umm, let's see now. What I said was that Bethesda brought nothing new to the table. Fallout 76 isn't new, and we already knew there's going to be a steady supply of stuff coming for it, E3 or not. Ghostwire isn't made by Bethesda. Neither is Deathloop. Doom Eternal we already knew about (theres's been gameplay videos posted of it for months by players), and they already made the "story trailer" joke the last time. Wolfenstein Youngblood had a story trailer two months ago. Wolfenstein Cyberpilot 11 months ago. Elder Scrolls Blades for the Switch? The only new part about that is the Switch. The game itself has already been playable for months. Scalebreaker and Moo...

That's honestly not my fault I used the silly embed button and how was I supposed to know it was region locked? That is one of the best questions of our times. Region locks make no sense at all to begin with, and the fact that most of the time you can't even see if there is one when you are not the target is stupid. And another thing is when they lock a video on Youtube for whatever reason, and you can't even see what they are blocking.

Maybe I need to start using this site on a mobile device?:erm: I've tried that. Everything is either too small or too large on my phone. But if you're referring to the comment you got for the Picard trailer, I thought the main problem was that the link you used is blocked in some areas (I can't view the link at all, it just says 'content unavailable').
