I'm really not very knowledgeable about modern archery, but generally maybe you could look at the difference between a musket and a modern rifle, and apply a similar 'upgrade'.

The PDF(s) will go out to backers the moment the Kickstarter ends tonight, as we do with all all our Kickstarters. So if by “right away” you mean “today” then back the campaign! Otherwise, yeah, there will be a longer wait before you can get the revised version of ATOC or the new book, ATMC.

Lots of people certainly like books. No doubt about that. Lots of people also like PDFs, as evidenced by the DMs Guild (which WotC created); and they also like other digital options, like DDB, FG, and Roll20. It's not a binary choice.

We did a skit about that in last week's podcast, with a player suggesting more and more outlandish races, starting with deep gnomes and tieflings, through aaracokra and minotaurs, to mind flayers and dragons, to daleks and Borg Queens, to, eventually, V'ger. The idea of somebody playing V'ger as a PC still cracks me up.

Every game has it's own niche and just needs to serve that niche well. In...

I was thinking about that very thing earlier today. That’s an artifact of using average rolls rather than the Judge rolling for the monsters. If the Judge rolls, you’d need a monster with 19d6 in its Defense skill (which doesn’t exist) to make it impossible to hit by a starting character. I like the average rolls because it makes play really fast, but you do lose that randomness. One...

By the same argument fighting, shooting, and defence are al forms of combat. Any skill list can be pared down indefinitely until you just end up with “skill”, but I do feel those two things are different enough. I wouldn’t want the average orc to charm somebody.

Simply6 is a fast, light tabletop roleplaying game for 2 or more players which you can play using just six-sided dice. I put this together over the last couple of days in my spare time (based on something I was playing with in the forums a while back) and have uploaded it to DTRPG. It's only about 20-pages long, and will likely be tweaked and updated after I get some feedback.

Guys, this isn’t a Modiphius product, and it’s not 2d20. We’re not going to hijack it into yet another patented Water Bob 2d20 hate thread. Stay on topic, please. Water Bob, if you want to rant about your personal dislike of 2d20 yet again, start your own thread. Thanks.

So this thread had a root in RPGs in that we were talking about WotC’s creative director’s statements. Now we appear to just be talking about gender pronouns and dictionaries, which isn’t on topic for this forum (or even this thread). If you want to talk about Mike Mearls and his tweets and how they relate to the gaming community please feel free. Otherwise, we’ll close it as entirely...

Impressively clickbaity headline on that article! What does it mean if Orcus doesn't know he's not aware of some things? I mean, he appears in every setting except if he doesn't! Blimey. I must know!

It's not the next logical step due to differences. It's the next logical step because it's structurally similar, making the upgrade the easiest one it could be. Xenforo is made by the people who left vBulletin about a decade ago when it changed ownership, and is the 'spiritual' successor, rather than vBulleitn 5 which is substantially different and not well-regarded. It's also better supported.

Morrus started a thread We're back!
Over the last couple of days I've been attempting a migration to Xenforo (the logical upgrade path for this platform). Unfortunately, it failed, and I've rolled it back. I'll try again in a few days. Sorry about the downtime and the anti-climactic result! Hopefully next time will be better. darjr and I have done this a few times on a test server over the last year, with mixed results. It's not...

Check this out in the meantime: http://circvsmaximvs.boards.net/ The old site is on very old software; while nothing is decided, it may be time to move to something more current.

Has been for a while now. The only difference is the DMsG replaces the d20 STL, as WOTC figured out how to monetise third party efforts. And many publishers steer shy of that after the last two licenses, and stick to the OGL alone.

That's a mouthful! The first adventure from the Age of Ashes adventure path for Pathfinder 2nd Edition is called Hellknight Hill, and is available for pre-order. "Fires burn atop the ruined citadel on Hellknight Hill, sending plumes of red smoke into the air that could be a call for help. Within the old keep, strange invaders from a distant land, mysterious long-lost ruins, and the...

  • 09:32 AM - mdusty quoted Marius Delphus in post Ever thought of getting Battlebards or Syrinscape to produce soundscapes for Zeitgeist?
I can't help but think that the soundtrack for the old CRPG Arcanum might be appropriate. http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/ (in the "Arcanum" category). I use these tracks quite frequently when they are in Danor or dealing with any Danorans, along with other types of old chamber music. It feels more 'French'. While in Risur or Flint, I run the standard RPG music like Skyrim and Morrowind and Witcher 3 or Assassin's Creed soundtracks along with the Sherlock Holmes soundracks. I usually play some kind of Russian themed music while dealing with Drakrans like Heid or Kvartiy - like Hunt for Red October or variations of Kalinka, and Spanish guitar music with Berans, like the Grientos or Harkover. I always play the Godfather soundtrack when they talk to Cippiano or have any dealings with the Family. With Clergy, I run The Divinci Code and Angels & Demons soundtracks. Any dungeons or 'scary' moments, I have a Cthulu soundtrack I run. During 'Always on Time' I always had 1920's jazz piano musi...

  • 03:28 AM - M3woods quoted Marius Delphus in post WOIN Supers
After thinking it over I wound up making some substantive edits to my post. Please read the edited version and I apologize if I was being or sounding accusatory. No worries, friend. M&M3e is my 'go-to' system for Supers. I think I'll stick with it for that genre. Still, W.O.I.N. seems to hit a sweet spot for all the rest. I'll continue using it for both my Apocalyptic Weird Western and my Fantasy Steampunk setting. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

  • 03:04 AM - Gecko85 quoted Marius Delphus in post Can someone please explain to me why there are still no PDFs for 5e core books?
Please be aware that "fair use" (as that term is defined by copyright law) does not apply to "acquiring" illegal PDFs, nor does owning a physical copy of the book make having a copy of an illegal PDF any less a copyright violation. I'm all for the idea of having an electronic version of the 5E books myself, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking there's some kind of legal loophole or excuse that makes illegal PDF copies any less illegal. Technically you may be right, just as technically it was illegal to record an album you owned on vinyl to cassette so you you could listen to it in the car back in the day. Or for a more modern take, it may not technically be legal to rip your DVD and Blu-Ray movies to a hard drive for use in your media center. The concept of fair use with regards to platform shifting is, and always has been, murky.

  • 01:27 AM - Morrus quoted Marius Delphus in post KHAAAAAN!!! (Leonard Nimoy died)
I met Leonard Nimoy once, at a management conference in 1995. I was part of the backstage crew. This was the era of the telecom wars, and the audience was full of telecom managers and executives. He showed up backstage only to find that the speech scheduled to precede his was running long and was full of dire predictions about the next few years in the industry. He chatted briefly with some of us, mostly answering questions about Star Trek, none of which thrilled him, and then I told him I'd seen an episode of "Outer Limits" directed by his son Adam. (I think I only tuned in because he was in it, but still.) That seemed to improve his mood, and he talked animatedly about Adam's career. At length he became restless. He asked whether we had a long hook with which to drag the current presenter off the stage. "He's killing my audience." "Don't worry," I said. His presence was actually meant to be a surprise for the audience. "Once they find out it's you, standing ovation." Finally it was his ...

It's all done but the PDF hyperlinks. Progress stalled during the period RSV and pneumonia were having their way with me and the Delphlings, but a little work tomorrow should see it finished and ready for upload. RSV's a pain, I hear you! Thanks!
