Morrus started a thread Secret Faces of Velsburg
Secret Faces of Velsburg. While traveling through the wilderness the adventurers come across a small hamlet plagued by a recent rash or murders committed by 'The Ghost'. The longer the party stay in Velsburg however, the quicker they realize that the supposedly bloodthirsty spirit preying upon the settlement is not the remote village's only mystery. In this sidequest to save Velsburg the PCs are...

D&D Beyond has provided yet another of it's data dumps of 12 million characters -- this time telling us character alignments are most popular in D&D. Chaotic Good wins, followed by my least favourite as a DM, Chaotic Neutral. Chaotic Evil is the least popular. The developer does say that this does not count the percentage of characters with no alignment selected. You can see the...

The Swedish 1990's-set sequel to Tales From The Loop is now available from Modiphius. Based on the paintings of Simon Stålenhag which portray a "retro futuristic suburbia", Things from the Flood takes the 1980s kids and makes them 1990s teens. Somewhere out there beyond the cordons, beyond the fields and marshes, abandoned machines roamed like stray dogs. They wandered about...

It's not like a car. It's much more subjective and much more of an art. You can directly and objectively measure a car's horsepower or weight, but you can't do that with an RPG. I don't think anything can substitute for actually trying the thing. All the graphs in the world won't give you a sense of how you feel when you play the game.

Morrus started a thread Let's Talk About THAC0
I feel like THAC0 gets a bad rap. It's the precursor to 3E's Base Attack Bonus, and came after 1E's attack matrices. It's actually super simple. The important thing to remember is that it's the exact same math, but in reverse. In 3E-5E, you roll d20 and add a bonus in order to beat the target's AC. In 1E-2E, you roll d20 in order to beat THAC0 minus AC. So instead of adding a number to...

The story of Third Edition D&D starts, perhaps, with Peter Adkison reading 2nd Edition AD&D (1989) and being sorely disappointed. For one thing, he felt the new system left several underlying problems in place, so players didn’t get much benefit from the effort it took to switch to a new system. For another, 2nd Ed stripped away all the charm and character of 1st Ed. No more half-orcs, arcane...

It would affect some derived statistics. Off the top of my head, speed, carry, and defences have a size component. Depending how much larger they got, reach might be affected too. If you want them to get actually stronger you’d also need to mix in some infuse magic.

  • 07:20 AM - Ancalagon mentioned Daniel D. Fox in post Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4E Launches At UK Games Expo In June!
Nevertheless, you decided to jump into a thread in which we got news that were highly anticipated by all WFRP fans and tried to paint the new edition in an unfavorable light. I was a backer for your KS, but the kind of marketing tactics that you've been using are souring me on your gane, Well... in Moniker 's defense, I was a giant poopy head and told him to his face I didn't like the game (because I didn't realize who he was) so he might have been peeved a bit... :/ I reported the news here, but everything else I've posted in this thread is a swing and a miss. :(

  • 05:04 PM - Zak S quoted Daniel D. Fox in post Congratulations to 2018's ENnie Award Winners!
I cannot thank Zak Smith and James Raggi enough for being so welcoming - treating us with respect and kindness, and introducing us into a world we had never exposed to as first-time GenCon-goers. Well people were very nice to us the first time we rolled up at Gen Con, so just paying it forward Thanks, Daniel--it was a great night up on stage for everybody this year and the best Ennies yet as far as I can see

  • 10:56 PM - VengerSatanis quoted Daniel D. Fox in post Congratulations To The 2018 ENnies Nominees!
Hell yes. I'm super excited to see so many DIY indie RPGs nominated this year. And you, Zweihander, may be in the same boat. I've heard about the game, just don't know much about it beyond the name, grim/dark, and it's supposed to be similar to old school Warhammer Fantasy RPG. Is that right? VS

Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG for both Best Game and Product of the Year in Ennies 2018!?! Eins, zwei, polizei! Drei, vier, Zweihänder ist hier! That means "well deserved" in German, I think ;) Which reminds me, I should go over to the latest "gritty" thread and drop a name...

  • 02:14 PM - Ancalagon quoted Daniel D. Fox in post Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Combat Preview
This may be of particular interest to #wfrp4e fans. This comes straight from Dom at Cubicle 7: you can remain in the same career instead of advancing through to a new one. Watch at 38:25 - https://twitter.com/zweihanderrpg/status/1005701375521705984?s=21Well... On one hand, this was already sort of true in 2e. Mercenary, veteran, champion is essentially staying in the same career, just getting better at it (there are several such examples). On the other hand, there are a number of careers where that is impossible. Ratcatcher springs to mind. But on the third, secret mutant hand, for many of these would you want to? So the party has a master thief, a high priest, a captain and .... Bob the uber peasant? In general, I am... wary of 4e adopting zweihander ideas, as I like some of them and disliked others rather strongly.

  • 11:38 PM - Over the Hill Gamer quoted Daniel D. Fox in post How Long Before the Digital Dam Breaks?
Hi there, this is Daniel, creator of Zweihander. Rest assured that the print, art, editing and writing qualities are well-within the margins for Zweihander Grim & Perilous RPG. There is certainly some sorcery behind the scenes to make this real (release schedule, excellent marketing, regular deals, print-on-demand offerings, smart social sharing, strict project management). Looking solely at Zweihander, we're at a little over 26K physical copies sold and over 62K digital copies as of last month. That's not even taking under consideration the 14 other products I've released over the past 21 months. I firmly believe that other gaming companies are charging far too much and giving far too little in return for their digital offerings (Onyx Path comes to mind). I feel there's a distinct lack of practical business experience (and sometimes ethics) for creators. And the market is already correcting itself; look at the prices of PDFs vs where they land in the top sellers list. The general rule is that...

Unless you live in my area, I can assure you we’ve never met in person. I haven’t been to any conventions, so I am unsure where we would have met. And, by my recollection, I haven’t had a conversation with any one in person who didn’t like the game. I meant "to your face" as in this thread. :/

it was confirmed through back channel discussions that Cubicle 7 delayed Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fourth edition due to the release of Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG. The direct quote was that the version they had prepared for release was “...viewed with embarrassment” when compared to Zweihänder’s comprehensiveness. Cubicle 7 then went back to the drawing board to refine WFRP 4e, and pulled in Graeme Davis to give it some much-needed star power. I'm going to go out on a limb and call this nonsense. Either give a source or stop disseminating FUD. I'm sick and tired of proponents of that heartbreaker game trying to wedge into my WFRP goodness. It's creator had to be formally warned before he quit inserting his game into every WFRP discussion over at rpg.net. They even tried to inject links into Warhammer's Wikipedia page for chrisakes. Heh. "before he quit." He never quit. He got permabanned for it.

That being said, I’ll still be first in line to preorder WFRP4e. Because at the end of the day, I am a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay fan first and foremost, and a writer of Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG second. Moniker is the creator of Zweihander. You on the other hand seem to try to link Warhammer to your RPG. All the time. I view your "direct quote" with real skepticism. If your RPG is so great why didn't Cubicle 7 hire you instead of Graeme Davis? Oh right, because he is a designer for Warhammer. https://www.tabletopgaming.co.uk/board-games/news/warhammer-fantasy-roleplays-fourth-edition-release-date-delayed-into Graeme D...

I looked at Zweihander's and... while there were some intriguing, and quite valid ideas in there, overall... I didn't like it. So let's hope that they take the good parts and not the not so good ones...

  • 05:22 PM - Realicity quoted Daniel D. Fox in post I agree! Less Chaos, more Perilous Adventure!
So excited to see this coming out! I just hope they honor the insidious, less-in-your-face chaos/corruption from WFRP 1e's adventures, and not the 'chaos everywhere, this is dark and dangerous D&D' of WFRP 2e. The original game had way more balance in the Old World. Newer versions have Warp-stoned too far into Chaos everywhere.
