biotech66 Would you take another one? I spent whole week trying to get natiral attacking kobold functional. And I couldn't ☺ It might get that way if you allow "PC" kobold (from ko olds of golarion) - less str penalty. The idea is to use draconic aspect line ending with draconic paragon. Ranger for claws unless I get them somehow so I can start fighter. Not optimal or even very powerful...but I think it could be fun. Now to read the thread from the start

As for Monday if you just have a character concept, you don't need to be super specific we what you have. I just want to get us up and a running. We'll have mostly RP and questions the first day. Sound good? Sure, I have that already, I think. Working OT, so might catch some time to work on it. I just don't like to commit/promise anything on weekends in case I decide to flake lol Sent from my SM-G900P using EN World mobile app

I give the name and the type at ~10, the base stuff for the type (demons don't care about fire et all) at about 15, and if you hit 20+ you basically get to read the stat block. It's a free action for me, since you know what you know. I also HIT MY PLAYERS AS HARD AS I CAN with the idea that KNOWING THINGS IS GOOD! If you do that enough, they will lean that that's a good thing. You have one turn where the wizard drops his big once a day spell to no effect, then they learn real fast that knowing is over half the battle! What about special abilities? Like goblin cunning, or that hobgoblins hit freaking hard? Or pack tactics and trip? DC 15?

  • 07:37 AM - Jan van Leyden quoted biotech66 in post Ring Side Report-Board Game Review of Machi Koro Harbor Expansion
Originally posted at, a new idea everyday! This addition now mixes all the building cards together in a pile. Cards are drawn and each different building is placed in a separate pile until 10 different piles are generated instead of having all the buildings face up and available at the start of the game. Otherwise the game plays the same as before with the first person to build all their landmarks being the winner! Hmmh, does that mean you draw ten different cards and play with those types of cards for the whole game, with all ten sort being available from the beginning? That would be the same as in Dominion or Thunderstone when you play with random draw. Or doe you mean that not all types of cards are available from the beginning, being added during the game via some random draw mechanism?

I'll agree, but the figures are old DnD figures you can get on Amazon for pennies on the dollar. The one is a group of six elves. You can get that same group for less than six bucks instead of $15-20 But without the special bases, cards, scenario, and assorted thingamajigs.

The game plays beautifully. However, that won't be the problem if you buy in. The problem with attack wing is the price point. The figures are all old recycles monsters but with higher costs. Why do that? See, I find value in being able to purchase exactly the figures I want, without hoping I get one randomly. As someone who has spent thousands on mage knight, and the original D&D minis game, this is pocket change!

Instructions-I don't like how the rules are laid out. The rules use a numbers system with subsections numbers, kind of like a legal document. I haven't seen that done really well, and that kind of hurts this book.Sounds like the approach chosen by GMT Games. Do you know any of their games, e.g. Twilight Struggle? Personally, I feel, they have the best-laid out rules of any game company. Very clear, easy to locate and with separate sections for a sample play and background infos about the game's theme. Since they have a tendency to publish rather complex games, having excellent rules books is almost a necessity.

As long as you tell the story well, I'll sit through the same story a few different times. How many different times have the made the same comic, book, or movie? this one looks interesting, and its always great to see good actors like Wolverine being a bad guy. Give some gravitas to the whole thing. Exactly. I get tired of the whole 'we saw something vaguely similar twenty years ago therefor anything that resembles it gets a 'meh'' attitude I see among a number of people. It looks like an interesting take on it, and the robot himself looks pretty fabulous.

I like the system, but its theme can turn some people away. My wife is a pagan, so she wasn't too keen on playing after seeing the theme played out. I can see that. If you read the different Orders carefully, there are plenty of outs for playing non-religious or pagan characters: • The Stalkers of the Unseen Hunt are just as often pagan as from one of the more mainstream religions (Christian, Judaism, or Muslim). • The Lightbringers can just as easily be deists or from many "avant-garde" alternative sects (like the US Founding Fathers). Also, remember that ALL of the Orders are pretty much considered apocryphal and heretical at best. The only common "religious" component is that all of them believe in a higher benign power (the counter to the Adversary). In my group, only one of the characters (a priest) is at all overtly religious. And more than one of the characters have None in the religion slot on their character sheet. Tom

  • 03:05 PM - drjones quoted biotech66 in post Any word on (Full) 5e PDFs?
I have to admit, I've only seen Dungeonscape from afar. But if the only way to get their PDF is via some in app purchase that doesn't give me PDF I can download on my own, then piracy will just keep on truckin'. It happened with 4e, and its already happening with 5e. I'm interested in Dungeonscape, but it needs to give me what I want. And it happened with every RPG book available for purchase as a PDF. Some people are cheap, some people are entitled, some people just suck. Whatever the personal reason, you could sell the PDF for 5 cents and it would still be torrented immediately upon release and no armchair marketing executive here knows how that effects real sales for a company like wotc. If it is going to be pirated no matter what they do then they have a strong incentive to try to provide something better than the scanned PDF that anyone can already get, which is what Dungeonscape is an attempt to do.

As promised, here my shot of it over at Throat Punch Games. I like most of it, but the spells it give you could be off a bit. What do you think? Looks intriguing. Enhanced Magic and Blessed Arcane Strike may need a bit of tweaking. I need to talk to the player in question and find out what he really wants in the character, identity wise...

I'm kind of ok with this. If you want a Wizzaard who casts spells, but can't spell his own name. So, every spell he casts is a gamble at best-then the Int 6 wizard might be fun to play! Will piss of the party, but might be fun to play.... Your first two levels as an Int 6 wizard will really suck though.

Skull and Shackles was awesome for me as a Pathfinder GM. My players enjoyed it, but it does have the standard Pathfinder problem with some late part math (10 CR 3's do not equal challenge to a level 9 PC!). They're not expected to be. Someone at Paizo once commented that they've used larger numbers of low CR opponents once PCs start hitting this upper-mid level to let the players revel in how far they've advanced.

  • 07:32 PM - Umbran quoted biotech66 in post PDFs!
WotC has two choices when it comes to PDFs: they can sell them or people will "find" them online. I love the new basic stuff, but if they don't get on the ground floor on this, they will lose money! Given that Basic is free... I'm guessing they aren't so worried about the profit made by the Starter Set itself. It is a hook, a loss leader, if need be, intended to get people in position to start buying other products later.
