Good point! Although that didnít help Red Skull too much at the end of the First Avenger! Mind you, he did hold it earlier in the film with no problem. With a single stone I think holding it is okay. Using a stone is a different matter.

Nothing new to what's been discussed here but still an interesting read: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/29/movies/avengers-endgame-questions-and-answers.htmlSorry, fat fingered the laugh button. Please consider that xp.

Doesn't Tony pick-up The Tessaract with his hand and put it in the briefcase? Yes, but the actual Space Stone is inside the Tesseract. Remember Thanos crushing the Tesseract and extracting the stone after getting it from Loki in Avengers: Infinity War?

Which begs the question of how the Avengers so easily handle the individual stones when collecting them in Endgame. Guardians of the Galaxy had an ending that showed what happens if your half-Celestial and half-human and handle a single stone! Note that most of the stones are in containers (The Tessaract, The Orb, The Scepter, Rocket's syringe) that are safe to touch, and all the raw stones are manipulated by machines when put into Tony's Infinity Gauntlet 2.0 back at Avengers HQ. The naked Time Stone seems to be surrounded by a force field of some kind, both here and in Avengers Infinity War; people who grab it don't really touch it. The Soul Stone places itself in your hand when you claim it. After what you pay for it, maybe it "knows" its owner? Maybe the sacrificed soul is inside the stone, and protects that person?

Sorry I didnít ignore you when you said this before and I agree that when a stone specific power is used thereís a visual tell. However, as Thanos adds each stone to the gauntlet he appears to get suffused with power that takes him a moment to control. I.e. I think he does get a more generic physical power-up as well as when he uses the stone specific powers. Well, it appears this is incorrect, as a zero stone Thanos appears to be capable of the same feats a multi-stone Thanos could do without the visual tells of stones activating. I mean, we could argue this, but I'd have to wonder if you're looking for consistency in the movie or just defending your prior assumptions. Hulk and Tony both also had moments where they looked to be infused with power from the gauntlet, but that appeared to be more merely trying to survive the combined might of the stones, not a power-up, especially since neither of them evinced any greater ability or power afterwards.

Hmm - Iím not so sure. Thanos has the Power Stone already in Infinity War when he fights Hulk and itís not until the beginning of Endgame where we see him fight without any Infinity Stones and heís dealt with pretty easily (albeit heís nearly died recently destroying the Infinity Stones). Which begs the question of how the Avengers so easily handle the individual stones when collecting them in Endgame. Guardians of the Galaxy had an ending that showed what happens if your half-Celestial and half-human and handle a single stone! There's a visual tell whenever a power stone is used. Thanos doesn't use it against Hulk, and is prevented from doing so against the ambush (until he isn't). Everything without a glow-y stone effect is just Thanos.
  • 01:23 PM - Ovinomancer quoted Erekose in post Avengers: Endgame SPOILER THREAD
Iím sure itís been mentioned elsewhere but I couldnít quite see how Thanos with no Infinity stones could take on Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America (and with Thor having Stormbreaker and Mjolnir) ... Thanos pretty effortlessly beats the Hulk in IW, then goes on to almost beat the Stark/Strange/Spidey/GotG team ambush without the stones. Using the stones has a visible tell fir each stone -- everything else is straight up Thanos.

  • 12:23 PM - CapnZapp quoted Erekose in post Pathfinder 2E or Pathfinder 1E?
I'm sure this must have been talked about before but I can't find a relevant thread . . . it just occurs to me that given that Pathfinder became a haven for people that didn't want to move from 3.xE D&D to 4E, what will happen if "most" buyers of Pathfinder products stay with 1E rather than moving to 2E? This isn't really a question about the relative merits of 1E and 2E so much as a query about where the bulk of Paizo's revenue comes from for Pathfinder. If it's the adventure paths rather than the rulebooks, then wouldn't low sales of 2E mean they might continue with 1E adventure paths? That said, it's seems likely that the new adventure paths will be designed such that you can play them easily with either edition . . . so maybe it's a moot point?Going back to the original topic... Yes it's a real risk PF2 will turn off both groups. PF1 fans because the incompatibility and maybe lack of sacred cows. 5E fans if they find out that PF2 means a return to the old bad days of linear fighters, ...

Just checking - I imagine you mean the character rather than the actor! :) No...Sonequa has now played two angst-filled characters back-to-back having come from The Walking Boring. So nevermind the angst-baked Michael Burnham character, the ST writers made her Mary Sue as well. Right now, I cannot imagine I will like any character she plays from here on out.
  • 09:44 AM - Sadras quoted Erekose in post Star Trek Discovery not getting any better I fear.
While I agree they are the best characters, IMHO, if you think about it Burnham would be the obvious choice for a promotion (albeit leap frogging Saru as current first officer) given that the Universe revolves around her and she has the answers to all important problems facing the crew . . . only slightly tongue in cheek! Mary Sue upwards and onwards... The writers have completely destroyed that actress for me.

Minor point but I remember when the series was first discussed and a point of difference was that the main character wasnít the captain. Is it just me or does it feel like Burnham might be the new captain? Saru pointedly ducked Pikeís question. That would be the final nail on Discoveries coffin. Not that it would change much, Burnham is already the most important thing in the universe as everything revolves around her anyway.

Hmm - makes me wonder how different PF2E will actually be to PF1E - from the playtest it would appear to be a significant change but wouldn't there be a certain logic to keeping them "similar enough" (whatever that means) so that new PF2E players could still use the existing APs and PF1E players that don't make the move could still use the new APS??? While I might appreciate it if the final version of PF2 turned out to actually be close to PF1, I think they'd get destroyed by those folks who liked the system demonstrated by the playtest. So while I can agree there is a certain logic to keeping PF2 and PF1 similar, I think Paizo is running on different logic, no doubt better informed about their customer base and the market that I am. I can go along with Staffan's observations. To me, the playtest was too fast. It gave me the sense that Paizo was in a big hurry. If I tested anything, it was character generation. Yeesh, I'm tired of making PF2 characters and we're not done with Doomsday Dawn y...

They have stated that many of the changes in the playtest rules were more extreme than they thought they were likely to go with, but they wanted playtest feedback on the more extreme version to see how much to dial it down. I think the PF2 playtest was handled rather poorly compared to the 5e playtest. Most notably, they dumped the whole* rule set at once, and while they did issue a number of updates during the test it was still tweaking on the same base. With 5e, on the other hand, Wizards initially gave us a handful of basic pregens and a version of the Caves of Chaos and asked us "Does this feel like D&D to you?" They then iterated on tha...

I'm in two Pathfinder games. One plans to use PF2 and the other is sticking with PF1. One of the DMs in the PF1 game expects to manually convert PF2 adventures to PF1. If Paizo supported PF1 in new APs as it would save him time. I suspect Paizo could publish a free PF1 Companion PDF for each AP and they would enjoy some PF2 AP sales to PF1 games. I've no idea if the revenue from that would cover the costs, or if doing that might in some way undermine migration from PF1 to PF2.

Good point! But what if PF2E has the same impact on PF1E players that D&D4E had on D&D3.xE players? Dunno. But PF1 came out of a perfect storm of a lot of things. It would be hard to replicate that success.
  • 05:49 PM - Morrus quoted Erekose in post Pathfinder 2E or Pathfinder 1E?
it just occurs to me that given that Pathfinder became a haven for people that didn't want to move from 3.xE D&D to 4E, It may have started like that 10 years ago, but there are tons of people who play PF these days who have never played D&D 3.x.

Remember at this point in the films Spock hasnít resolved his issues with Sarek. As Kirk knows this, he wants to give him a heroís funeral (the equivalent of a vikings funeral but entering the atmosphere of the Genesis Planet creating the fire rather than arrows) rather than the debacle of a funeral Kirk expects him to get back on Vulcan. 3) Harsh? No. The Enterprise crew had been his chosen family for decades at this point. These are really good points. Remember the Enterprise is a big ship so maybe it just wasnít Chekovís rotation on the bridge but Khan saw him in passing elsewhere? He could easily have found his name when searching the computer archive. Yeah, I just figured he saw Chekov's entry on the ships crew files when he was memorizing everything about the ship with his superior intellect. Chekov was maybe not even an officer yet or whatever, but working in some non-bridge position.
