I'm guessing you don't like Spelljammer or Planescape, then?

I'd love an adventure path that jumps from world to world dealing with something like this... Start off in the Realms, next adventure takes the characters to Eberron, then the third is Dark Sun, then Mystara, with it finally ending with Greyhawk. Use Planescape and Spelljammer as in-between adventures to get from one world to another. If I had the time and energy, I'd write it myself... Sounds...

Looking back, I had the most FUN playing 2E. I started with BECMI, had a couple 1E books before 2E came out and we graduated to that. Played for 10 years. Definitely had lots of fun adventures in various settings. 3E was all well and good and was very modular and easily customized, but it just took forever for combat. 4E... I won't go there. We moved to PF after a failed 4E experience. 5E, to...

Good for those that want it. I’ll get it on deep discount someday just to stay complete and I’ll get the races and classes from dndbeyond. I’m sure I can harvest bits for my homebrew. I already integrated an origin for the Warforged in my world..

I would hate to see Spelljammer and Planescape combined. On paper, it makes sense, but the settings have vastly different “personalities” to them. I’d hate to see either of them compromised for the other.

I flipped back and forth between voting 2E and 3E and chose 2E because, while overly complicated at times, we had the most FUN playing 2E... 3E was great for customizing characters and flexibility, but all of the balance added took away some of the crazy fun we had with 2E. And the adventures.... the most memorable adventures to me are Dragon Mountain, Baba Yaga, Goblins Return, Heart of the...

What do I WANT? Spelljammer. But it ain’t gonna happen. Followed by Dark Sun. Again, not likely. Planescape is certainly possible given the new adventure, but... I think it’ll just be another Forgotten Realms thing. Hope I’m wrong!

  • 07:37 PM - Aaron L quoted thundershot in post Jonathan Tweet: Prologue to Third Edition
Speaking as someone who never played 1E (went from BECMI to 2E), I personally loved 2E. I did have the 1E DMG before I had the 2E one, so I used the magic items from that, but I loved the flavor of 2E. However, I definitely understand how they hung themselves with supplement after supplement... 3E and even 4E had a lot of books being churned out as well, but they didn't cannibalize each other like 2E did. Though I do love all of the settings and supplements of 2E and mining what I wanted from them... If you've never read the 1st Edition AD&D Dungeon Master's Guide, you should track down a copy as soon as possible and read it cover to cover. Every RPG player, no matter what game they play, should read that book. So much densely packed information!

The blurb doesn’t really say what the book is for someone who has never heard of this before. Branding is everything. Quality-wise, this is no better than the Magic book, well it probably is because more effort was probably put into it because the IP is less known, but reception will be worse because the IP is less known.

The blurb doesn’t really say what the book is for someone who has never heard of this before. D&DBeyond did a preview of it last week: THere's a new player race, some expanded faction mechanics, more monster and NPC statblocks, and a 1-6 adventure.

  • 01:02 AM - ddaley quoted thundershot in post Island/Sea based adventure to take characters from lvl 1 to 3 (or so)
My group just did a bunch of stuff on the island from the Tortle Package. Now they’re on the way to the Isle of Dread. But they did Phandelver before that... so they’re 5th level right now. I plan to do a few more island pit stops to give them more to do. Lost Mine is a great little adventure. My group did that using some different characters and really enjoyed it. My group doesn't like overly sandboxy adventures. Lost Mine was just the right amount of sandbox with enough guidance. I have the Tortle Package. I need to check that out. I may wait and do the Saltmarsh campaign first, then have then start new chars and do Isle of Dread.

What an unfortunate last name. Worse than mine..: I don’t care about MTG but I AM interested in revisiting classic worlds with books like this... He could have been named Harry.

What an unfortunate last name. Worse than mine..: I don’t care about MTG but I AM interested in revisiting classic worlds with books like this... Yeah, I'm not really into Magic but this has possibilities. We have a Magic world ported into D&D now, but we can have a D&D world ported into Magic in the future (which would mean it gets attention including a D&D revival). One intriguing possibility that this interview suggests is that they might make a new fantasy world, outside of either game, and then have both games design trams make use of it. If they go through all the trouble to have James Wyatt build a new fantasy world, why not use it for multiple games?

  • 10:26 AM - gyor quoted thundershot in post Eberron It Is? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]
Good for those that want this. Bad for me who wanted Spelljammer and Dark Sun... I think 2019 will be your year.
  • 09:10 AM - delericho quoted thundershot in post Eberron It Is? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]
Good for those that want this. Bad for me who wanted Spelljammer and Dark Sun... Eberron had the big advantage of having an obvious champion - the setting creator is still active in RPG design and was keen to publish new material. Spelljammer and Dark Sun probably don't have anyone obviously going to bat for them, and so are a bit slower off the blocks. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if we saw one or both in the next few years. (Dark Sun, in particular, I would expect to come when they get the psionics rules out - and not until then, sadly.)

Good for those that want this. Bad for me who wanted Spelljammer and Dark Sun... To be honest, this seems to make both of those, and any other, settings getting support much more likely.

  • 02:12 AM - Demetrios1453 quoted thundershot in post Playable Giff in the next Extra Life?
To be fair, Tortles didn't exist in FR either before the Tortle Package... Which makes it reasonable a place can be found for giff in the setting. Tortles were unknown previously since they live in an isolated area of Chult no one had really explored before, so I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to have an isolated giff settlement somewhere, perhaps the remnants of a crashed Spelljammer ship. Or - and this just occurred to me - just have them live on Lantan, since Lantan was one of the few areas of the setting undetailed before the Spellplague (so, for all we know giff might have been there all along, especially as the island was a Spelljammer haven on the planet), went missing to parts unknown for the last century or so (so, if there weren't giff there before, perhaps they picked them up wherever the island went), and would thematically be very fitting for a gunpowder-using race to inhabit...

  • 07:55 PM - Oofta quoted thundershot in post Dark Sun confirmed for 5th edition
I enjoyed Dark Sun, but I enjoyed Spelljammer a hell of a lot more... We don't really NEED setting books. We just need a hardcover that contains all of the races/classes/setting info along with a nice adventure, followed by some web supplements and free reign on DMsGuild. One for Dark Sun One for Spelljammer One for Planescape etc.... One book to get people started is all I'm asking... Or just one book ... One Book to rule them all, One Book to find them, One Book to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the memories of past editions where the nostalgia lies.

  • 03:29 PM - ddaley quoted thundershot in post Isle of Dread
You know... they apparently converted Isle of Dread during the play testing. I found a copy of that somewhere. I really want to run this for my group one of these days, but we have too many campaigns going at the moment. Since it was converted for the play test, it seems like it would be a easy choice to polish it up in order to release it officially. Oh PLEASE tell me Isle of Dread is in the cards. It'll save me from having to convert it myself.

  • 09:30 PM - Morrus quoted thundershot in post N.E.W. Character Creation Book [Feb 2015]
I'm very excited for this game. I hope Hero Lab will eventually support it. They won't do it themselves; I asked a year ago during the Kickstarter. It'll all be open content, though, so any fans (or third party publishers) will be welcome to make or sell data packs.

  • 11:52 PM - Yaztromo quoted thundershot in post Skyships & Spacefaring Wonders Await PFRPG Fans with Calidar: In Stranger Skies
Nice! If they do a 5E version, I'll definitely buy it! The setting is made in such a way that it's easy to adapt it. You don't really need to have a dedicated 5E version (or whatever other ruleset you play) as you can do the conversion or adaptation with no major effort by yourself. Another feature that I found amusing is that you can have your characters from your roleplaying world visiting the world of Calidar for a cycle of adventures (or for the rest of their lives) relatively easily.

  • 08:29 AM - Sadras quoted thundershot in post Starter Set: Except 7
Am I the only one who would be much MORE confused by that? My initial reading would be something like "Yay, I get to add four! Why is 19 in parenthesis? Is that a max or something?" Nah, I found it confusing as well. Thirded. But I wonder what someone who's never played D&D would say. Fourthed. I played D&D during the THACO years and I was 12 and I survived. We really should stop underestimating new player's intelligence like two numbers alongside an ability represent some form of high-science. Good grief! And for the record it will mostly be experienced players who buy the starter set, not the other way round. The 2E one was my personal favorite. Seconded.
