Depends on the land, wealth, and entourage that noble comes with. A Noble from Mulhorand would very much be respected, especially with blood of gods running in their veins. Tethyr, Amn, and Calimshan would also be well respected. Stil they'd have an easier ride and more respect in Waterdeep then in Baldur's Gate I think. With the right evidence they will at least get more respect...

It's not the system that is the problem, it's that 5e doesn't even have the setting support for true sand box play in the Forgotten Realms.

For example I think the Rig Veda references the Indra as an Asura, and that was written back when Indra was a lot more popular then he is now. Asuras is D&D are basically similar to Angels, but more Chaotic to the Angels Lawful inclinations, ...

See it's not just me. WotC should have let them kick-start, then this would just be a silly harmless book, but instead FR is now stained with this. Where is a Spellplague or Sundering to clean up this mess? They can publish this, but FR novels they can't do? WTF?

My idea box set would be based on the core book box set, but instead of a PHB, DMG, And MM, it was be a Faerun Setting Guide, Kara Tur Setting Guide, Maztica Setting Guide, and Zakhara Setting Guide, detailed Poster Maps of all 4 and FR DM Screen, with all books the size the PHB, or better yet the size of pathfinders PHB! Dream big or go home as they say.

I wasn't taking about another starter set, but a full on campaign box set, which is a very different beast from a starter set. You don't need campaign setting maps, campaign setting DM screens for that, so if it was for starter sets, why ask about that? It's because this is for Campaign Settings, not starter sets. Also why ask if it should have a basic rules booklet if it's intended for started sets, without that it's not a starter set, so there would be no reason to ask that. Wizards doesn't need a survey on...

The FR DoD is the only one that matters, the rest are just prototypes. In 5e FR is the core setting, why would they shift it needless from their prefered setting when the fullest version of DoD is already set in FR? Secondly part of what makes DoD interesting is it's impact on FR evolution/history. There is no reason to set it in Mystara instead of FR, where the most recent...

In Cormyr resurrecting the King is illegal, and the raised King would no longer be allowed to remain King. When this became law I don't know. A lot of laws would exist to regulate powerful magic realistically, so that economic and social chaos does not result fromnabusing certain spells. Just like counterfeiting money is a crime, using magic to mess up the economy would be banned or regulated.

You can get a bunch of divination spells with a Ritual Caster Feat. You summon and bind an Elemental Stalker for 6 months, you've just bound up your concentration for six months. I think. Does Planar Binding continue the need to maintain concentration on the summoning? Anyways a Divine Soul can out do that, a Divine Soul can summon a Couatl with Conjure Celestial and use a heightened...

The Sorcerer isn't trying to be "Batman" aka the Wizard. You don't need a different collection of spells for every pillar of the game, you have team mates or minions for that.

Shadow Magic Sorcerer is also very powerful, and honestly is likely the most dangerous/powerful subclass in the game at high levels, period. Dragon Sorcerer not as powerful as Shadow Magic, but good blaster at lower levels, and at higher levels it's features give it versitility without resorting to spells such as at will flight, and Dragon Awe. And now there are Elf Shadar Kai from Evermeet who are likely very culturally different from any other FR population of Shadar Kai as while all Shadar Kai are now elves, not all Shadar Kai...

You'd be surprised. Devs play a lot of attention to their competitors and the reactions to their games. WotC's D&D team plays TRPGs from other companies for example. Age of Wonders: Planetfall for example borrows influences from Civilization, Endless Legend, and others. Right now the closest game to BG 2 is Pathfinder: Kingmaker, so yeah they will likely have looked closely at PF: KM, ...

If Google money is backing this and it's one of their centre stars for their new Stadia platform then the sky is the limit in terms of graphics, features, sound, classes, subclasses, races, subraces, feats, spells, and so on. Google will likely expect a lot out of this game.

  • 06:13 PM - Draegn mentioned gyor in post Gods and Divine Magic
gyor Perhaps emphereal was meant to be ephemeral? Ephemeral has been used in fiction to refer to "temporarily immortal". The Highlander film series is an example of this, immortal until your head is taken. I have this in my games where if a player were to gain enough strength and ability, he or she, could duel a deity to the death. Of course this is extremely difficult to do. More often or not it is one deity killing another. With regards to mortal deities are rather apathetic, a mortal is nothing more than a little creature flittering about in the world. One can ask, pray, call upon them for aid. However, one must be respectful and appease them through proper ritual, use of litany or liturgy. Thus common people more often or not are seemingly ignored. Actual people capable of calling on divine assistance are limited only by the measure of their faith and piety.

I wonder if there are two kinds of people, with the difference illustrated by the announcement of a new game: 1) Those who will look at the available evidence and precedents and conclude that it's probably going to be terrible. 2) Those who will look at the available evidence and precedents and hope that it's going to be great. With Larian experience, I lean on #2 but I'm not as optimistic as gyor though I wish the same as he. If it is as good as D:OS2, we're golden. But I think expectations are already too high. I don't expect seeing gameplay until next E3 now..

...mances from Penny Arcade, and the One Shot and Campaigns podcasts on the One Shot Network. Taken in the aggregate, all of these shows have something in common: They’re all pretty white. While women are well represented in the most popular actual play experiences, people of color are not. In fact, the team behind the Critical Role Kickstarter may be the least racially diverse group of the bunch. “Nobody is ‘turning’ on critical role,” writes a TTRPG podcaster. “If you think that pointing out that things could and should have diversity especially with the ability the cast has to promote it is ‘turning’ on them then i really don’t know what to tell you. ppl have been pointing it out for years.” By and large, the tenor of the conversation is that the folks behind Critical Role are good people. They’ve done incredible work to carve out a niche for themselves, and in so doing they’ve helped legitimize the hobby of role-playing. But they could, and should, also do better. So, gyor, if your models for diversity are Japanese or Indian cinema, well, I really don't know what to say. No one is "getting out the pitchforks". It's a comment that yes, as a public entertainment, some of us at least think that diversity is important. Is CR doing well? Absolutely. Does that mean that they get an automatic free pass just because we like them? Nope.

  • 03:16 AM - Nevvur mentioned gyor in post How would you RP an evil druid?
Bitbrain - Thanks for guiding us to that article! I'll second your recommendation. gyor - Love the hell druid concept. Awhile back I was examining unlikely class/race combos, and the tiefling druid presented immediately. This would be a plausible background for him. As for the OP... Motive and methods are both important considerations. I made a mid-level NPC druid oriented toward swarms and disease as the Big Bad for a low-level one shot. They were the most effective tools for addressing an aggressive push to colonize a land he held in stewardship. It made him an extremist in his own circle, but he escaped punishment and went about distributing plagues til the PCs caught up with him. Do you ask because you're looking to implement something in a game, or is this more just picking the forum's brain?

  • 05:02 PM - Ralif Redhammer mentioned gyor in post 4.33 Years in: What Now for 5E? (and have we reached "Peak Edition?")
Yeah, Pathfinder 2e is a very different beast, and from what I’ve seen, already dividing the Pathfinder fanbase. Which, really, was unavoidable – their whole design was based on staying the same and just giving people more of that thing they liked. Unfortunately, that pretty much baked bloat in as unavoidable. But, back to D&D. As gyor said, social media presents an unparalleled avenue of D&D experience and advertisement. The Stream of Many Eyes was an experience never seen before, and I’m super-excited for the eventual next one. There are so many ways to experience D&D, not just as a game, but as a culture. Pathfinder 2e, unfortunately, has a major identity crisis. It’s wavering between wanting to make itself approachable to new players, and wanting to retain an existing fan base that revels in complexity, and it shows. I do think it’s going to push WotC to up their game, but I don’t think it’s going to drive anything close to an edition change.

Like gyor said you can find the episodes on YouTube a few days after they air but with Twitch specifically it’s a little more complicated. The show itself (live & past broadcasts) are found on the official DnD Twitch channel. The after show Talk Pact is found on the SavingThrowShow Twitch Channel-which is the one it sounds like you found. Just head over to the DnD channel and look under Past Broadcasts and you should find it. Hope that helps.

Just a bit of context to gyor's point about the settings and the survey that WotC did. The survey in question was asking what settings would people like updated. It wasn't really asking if people played in one setting or another. The survey was, to some degree, kinda self selecting. If you didn't play in any of those settings, it's unlikely you would answer.

  • 06:18 PM - Satyrn mentioned gyor in post 5e needs a Faiths and Avatars style book
This is where polytheism is being confused with Christianity. There is no "uniform" for a priest of Corellon, holy days depend on locality, there are no standardised rituals, and very little in the way of hierarchy. Each temple would have an autonomous high priest, and he/she would have a few acolytes. Appropriate offerings are "anything the god likes" so in the case of Corellon, singing, mostly (and all temples need cash for maintenance). Well, if your right that this is the way Correllon's priesthood works, that seems like the perfect sort content for such a book would provide: "There are no standardised rituals to celebrate Correlon, etc. . . here's a couple examples of how Correlon is worshipped in the Dales, and here's how Corellon is worshipped (and has his name spelled) . . . " So, yeah. I think you're making the case for this book. It's just a shame for gyor that we're not in the TSR era because then there would be a spot in the schedule for it. Because the only reason we won't see this book is the very simple "it doesn't fit in WotC's publishing strategy."

Kobold Avenger - Mearls has mentioned making a Warlock with an Elder Brain patron gyor - I'm not sure I'd like to see a Paladin oath that deals with psionics. I mean the other oaths are thematic: Vengeance, Devotion, Crown, Conquest, Redemption... I suppose the Oath of the Ancients is semi-similar in concept to what a Psi-oath would be like. I'd think the oath would have to be something like "Awakening" because you're awakening your own potential. As a DM I'd force any Paladins of this to probably be part of a religious order associated with Psionic deities.

https://www.pcgamer.com/how-baldurs-gate-3-and-bloodlines-2-are-rewriting-the-rules-of-the-tabletop-games-theyre-adapting/ Interesting.I thought to extract the bits relevant to 5E, but really, the only new tibit I could find, was that Larian is tweaking the experience of playing the Fighter at low levels: "The fighter has been a big problem for us" says Vincke, "because in the beginning he's very limited. He's a tutorial class in D&D 5e, but if I don't give you anything to do with your fighter in the beginning of a videogame you'll go bananas, especially when you play multiplayer."

It might not require a mod, if your character gets infected by a Mindflayer Tadpole, and turns into a Mindflayer they might let you keep playing it. Same thing with being coming a Vampire or Werecreature. Did you say you haven't played the original Baldur's Gate? It's a very different style of RPG to The Elder Scrolls games. Of course it's possible Baldur's Gate 3 might take a completely different approach to storytelling to 1 and 2. Not something I would welcome myself though.

  • 12:56 AM - Parmandur quoted gyor in post Is it possible that the Revised Ranger is not dead?
What do you, how does cleric domains limit the kind of Cleric archetypes you can make? By definition, having elements that work a certain way limit the ability to do something else: 5E subclasses do not change base Class features, as 2E Kits did. What they are talking about is exploring options that rewrite the base Class, i.e. Kits rather than Subclasses.

The original tweet from Jeremy is down below. "Jeremy Crawford JeremyECrawford Replying to @Navy_DM and JamesIntrocaso He was referring to the alternative class features we're exploring for various classes, including the ranger. These would be optional rules, not a redesign of a class." I'm curious what other classes might be getting alternate features. I know that some people are unhappy with the Sorcerer's spells know, but I don't think trading metamagic for another feature would solve that (new metamagic however, like one that changes damage type would work well, and metamagics that allow you to use spells in a new way, like metamagic to use an enchant spell on undead ignoring charm immunity on undead, or other stuff). I not sure what other class would have alternative features? The Ranger is the only Class in the game where a significant percentage of the population is dissatisfied, true (Mearls said the next most dissatisfactory Class is wi...

I not sure what other class would have alternative features? All of them? I fully expect we'll get a Xanathar's type 2020 book with a chapter of alternative class features, instead of yet more new subclasses. There aren't so many classes that they can't hit them all. It's just some will be "new variant the core book doesn't offer" and others will be more "fixes to a class the PHB didn't get quite right but it's still optional if you liked the original version".

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Asura In Hinduisms while at times it can refer to evil spirits, it's abit more complicated then that. For example I think the Rig Veda references the Indra as an Asura, and that was written back when Indra was a lot more popular then he is now. Asuras is D&D are basically similar to Angels, but more Chaotic to the Angels Lawful inclinations, serving Gods of Good (and some times Chaos). They see Devas as rivals. There were a type of more powerful Asuras I believe and at the top an Asura general. I could see WotC merging the Asura into Angels, a type based on the passions of a God, where Devas would be the thoughts of a God It's be an interesting twist if instead of a Solar, Planetar, or Deva, Zariel was a Asura Angel, so falling from not just good to evil, but from choas to lawful as well. Oh, for sure. It's complicated (like many aspects of Hindu lore). But, on average, asuras tend to be adversaries and serve as the...

And when you say 'asura' are you specifically referring to the Hindu adversaries of the Devas (and often sort of demonic in temperament). Or is there another popular context I'm not aware of? Adrian

https://www.thegamer.com/baldurs-gate-3-dungeons-dragons-ranger-class-change/ Speculation that this alternate Ranger might be a sign of D&D 5.5e coming. Doubtful: maybe another Xanathar's Guide, but Mearls also said recently that another Xanathar's style book was years away. I'll wager that any alternative features, if they pass muster, will end up in a setting book.

I'm fine with camp, AI goes a dozen shades beyond camp or humour like Misc, into actively damaging the emersive quality of the setting. It's not really the humour that bothers me, it's that the forms it takes make no sense in FR. How are their modern style corporations in FR, where is the legal code and international law such organizations require to function. And I'm not gate keeping, disliking the quality of the content is not gate keeping, I'm not forbidding AI to play in FR, I just wish they put more effort into does this Quality X make any kind if sense in FR, not just is it funny. I'd rather they'd done this with one if the other streaming groups, who might have funny stuff, but in a way that respects the setting and makes sense. Heck I'm even fine with the Verdan, aka the Gobliniod Millenials, it's mostly the goofy corporate references and similar stuff that bugs the crap out of me, not the Verdan, not the use of humour (within reason), its all the stuff that makes...

I'd prefer giving Inexile a new region, perhaps Kara Tur, Al Qadim Sequel, or the Old Empires Region of Faerun. I would rather give them (or someone) Dark Sun. Those old Dark Sun CRPGs are underrated classics.

Both Inexile and Obsidian tried to get the rights to BG 3, along with Larian. Larian can make BG3, Obsidian can make a sequel to Planescape: Torment, and Inexile can make Icewind Dale 3. Problem solved. :)

It's not the comedy that is the issue, it's that in an FR context it makes no sense, corporations Ade legal entities that real heavily on national and international law, none of which exists in FR. Yes FR is big, but it's not a matter of size, it's a matter of context. If we apply that standard, the whole enterprise of the Forgotten Realms is on shaky foundations.

Actually yes there is. Insofar as there is a set Canon, it is managed by the DM Prime of... Acquisitions, Inc. Who has gone on record that table-Canoj is the only important Canon. Don't like AI? Groovy, it isn't part of your personal table-Canon. I remix the 5E lore, as spice, into the 3E timeframe as presented in the FRCS: I can ignore the Spellplague and Sundering to my heart's content, because my Realms-canon has priority.

Booooo. The Forgotten Realms is the high water mark for D&D. Heh. Thats what happens when the kitchen sink overflows.

And I believe that FR is big enough for different contexts. And are we seriously going to debate what makes sense in a fantasy setting? There is a multi-layered dungeon full of traps and bizarre monsters sitting beneath the biggest city on the western continent.

Yes FR is big, but it's not a matter of size, it's a matter of context. It's a joke. The whole corporation thing is just a vehicle for them to inject farcical white-collar humor into a heroic fantasy setting. In practice, Acquisitions Incorporated is just a loosely connected chain of adventuring guilds and small mercenary companies with (questionably) better management than their competition. Or are you also clamoring for an audit of the Flaming Fists?

If the Verdan are in, that would be two races capable of sex/gender shifting magically. And then there are Changelings, if they choose to bring in some Eberron flavour.
