Actually from what I hear printed books aren't as censored as hard as digital stuff by Chinese authorities. You can even find some subversive titles in Chinese book stores. So D&D MIGHT get away with not being censored.

gyor started a thread Major Image 5e
Okay I noticed that Major Image has it's area of effect =to it's range, which means that a Sorcerer can use distance spell metamagic to double both. But here is the question, after casting does the range from the spot where you originally cast your spell, or does it always project out from you. So say a Sorcerer casts Distance Major Image for a range of 240 feet, is that 240 feet in every...

Here is how Roman builds an Empire in Faerun. Under Emperor Julian the Philosopher Romans start appearing in Faerun, returning their Gods to Faerun, not just native Roman Gods, but many adopted ones. Instead of replacing the Faerunian Gods with their own the Romans employ the practice of buying the support of their enemies Gods with generous sacrifices (buying the support of the Gods of...

It's really more complex then this, while the Romans did see Minerva as a War God, it was largely thanks to her link to Athena, the Romans tended to focus more on her other attributes. Jupiter is a God of storms, but also rulership, and at times the sun. Hermes was seen as an underworld God, a psychopomp. Diana was equated to Artemis, but Artemis was equated in mythology with Bastet...

The reason That can't take Rasheman is because They has too many enemies and few allies in the region. If they commits it's full forces to war with Rasheman then Mulhorand and Aglarond will take advantage and attack Thay and soon Thay is fighting a War on 3 fronts. Thay could beat Rasheman if he tried hard enough, it would struggle more so with Aglarond, but Mulhorand is what truly scares Thay,...

No, you can build a viable Half Orc Warlock, no problem. People also forget that all races have the same maxium for stats, so eventually your Half Orc Warlock can be as charismatic as the Tiefling.

There is also Subverse, which has tactical JRPG style elements mixed with other sorts of game play like mass effect style exploration and shoot'm ups (not at.the same time of course). And upcoming Age of Wonders Planetfall is primarily a 4x game, but with solid CRPG elements, turned based combat (with environmental interactions).

But the last two games of Larian's, were turn based and they made way more money then Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pillars of Eternity 2 (not that these did bad at all, great games). Divinity: Original Sin 2 made so much money it's shocking, 85 million dollars in 2017 alone...

I'd note the other Setting that Tieflings were important to was the Forgotten Realms, where they have a very different history from the Nentir Vale or Pkanescape Tieflings. In fact Tieflings might be present in other Settings like Greyhawk, Darksun, and others, but the three Settings Tieflings are important too are Planescape, Nentir Vale and the Forgotten Realms (with Tieflings being tied...

Not Enchanter, like the wizard, the Enchanted. That basic idea is this, the class grants that character to absord and make certain spells cast on them permanent. They are like humaniod magic items. So at each level they can accept a choice of an enchantment. • 06:13 PM - Draegn mentioned gyor in post Gods and Divine Magic
gyor Perhaps emphereal was meant to be ephemeral? Ephemeral has been used in fiction to refer to "temporarily immortal". The Highlander film series is an example of this, immortal until your head is taken. I have this in my games where if a player were to gain enough strength and ability, he or she, could duel a deity to the death. Of course this is extremely difficult to do. More often or not it is one deity killing another. With regards to mortal deities are rather apathetic, a mortal is nothing more than a little creature flittering about in the world. One can ask, pray, call upon them for aid. However, one must be respectful and appease them through proper ritual, use of litany or liturgy. Thus common people more often or not are seemingly ignored. Actual people capable of calling on divine assistance are limited only by the measure of their faith and piety.

I wonder if there are two kinds of people, with the difference illustrated by the announcement of a new game: 1) Those who will look at the available evidence and precedents and conclude that it's probably going to be terrible. 2) Those who will look at the available evidence and precedents and hope that it's going to be great. With Larian experience, I lean on #2 but I'm not as optimistic as gyor though I wish the same as he. If it is as good as D:OS2, we're golden. But I think expectations are already too high. I don't expect seeing gameplay until next E3 now..

...mances from Penny Arcade, and the One Shot and Campaigns podcasts on the One Shot Network. Taken in the aggregate, all of these shows have something in common: They’re all pretty white. While women are well represented in the most popular actual play experiences, people of color are not. In fact, the team behind the Critical Role Kickstarter may be the least racially diverse group of the bunch. “Nobody is ‘turning’ on critical role,” writes a TTRPG podcaster. “If you think that pointing out that things could and should have diversity especially with the ability the cast has to promote it is ‘turning’ on them then i really don’t know what to tell you. ppl have been pointing it out for years.” By and large, the tenor of the conversation is that the folks behind Critical Role are good people. They’ve done incredible work to carve out a niche for themselves, and in so doing they’ve helped legitimize the hobby of role-playing. But they could, and should, also do better. So, gyor, if your models for diversity are Japanese or Indian cinema, well, I really don't know what to say. No one is "getting out the pitchforks". It's a comment that yes, as a public entertainment, some of us at least think that diversity is important. Is CR doing well? Absolutely. Does that mean that they get an automatic free pass just because we like them? Nope.

  • 03:16 AM - Nevvur mentioned gyor in post How would you RP an evil druid?
Bitbrain - Thanks for guiding us to that article! I'll second your recommendation. gyor - Love the hell druid concept. Awhile back I was examining unlikely class/race combos, and the tiefling druid presented immediately. This would be a plausible background for him. As for the OP... Motive and methods are both important considerations. I made a mid-level NPC druid oriented toward swarms and disease as the Big Bad for a low-level one shot. They were the most effective tools for addressing an aggressive push to colonize a land he held in stewardship. It made him an extremist in his own circle, but he escaped punishment and went about distributing plagues til the PCs caught up with him. Do you ask because you're looking to implement something in a game, or is this more just picking the forum's brain?

Yeah, Pathfinder 2e is a very different beast, and from what I’ve seen, already dividing the Pathfinder fanbase. Which, really, was unavoidable – their whole design was based on staying the same and just giving people more of that thing they liked. Unfortunately, that pretty much baked bloat in as unavoidable. But, back to D&D. As gyor said, social media presents an unparalleled avenue of D&D experience and advertisement. The Stream of Many Eyes was an experience never seen before, and I’m super-excited for the eventual next one. There are so many ways to experience D&D, not just as a game, but as a culture. Pathfinder 2e, unfortunately, has a major identity crisis. It’s wavering between wanting to make itself approachable to new players, and wanting to retain an existing fan base that revels in complexity, and it shows. I do think it’s going to push WotC to up their game, but I don’t think it’s going to drive anything close to an edition change.

The question is why the threat title haven't been edited yet... I haven't edited it because it doesn't say returning like gyor said. It says "coming" and it is, to a D&D live stream and potentially (per discussion) other venues.

That used to be WotCs position. They abandoned it with 5e. How do you or gyor know what is WotC's stance on canon fluff? Can you point me to a post, statement, tweet, video, etc. where one of the designers comments on the their approach to canon in 5e? I the two of you just guessing or inferring?

  • 04:58 PM - maceo mentioned gyor in post Ravnica: Broken Pact
Like gyor said you can find the episodes on YouTube a few days after they air but with Twitch specifically it’s a little more complicated. The show itself (live & past broadcasts) are found on the official DnD Twitch channel. The after show Talk Pact is found on the SavingThrowShow Twitch Channel-which is the one it sounds like you found. Just head over to the DnD channel and look under Past Broadcasts and you should find it. Hope that helps.

gyor: I don’t know what game you’ve been playing, but it’s been obvious to me ever since the play test period that 5e was the “DIY Edition” of D&D. We’re never going to get more than bare bones minimal coverage of anything because they want us to do it all ourselves.

Just a bit of context to gyor's point about the settings and the survey that WotC did. The survey in question was asking what settings would people like updated. It wasn't really asking if people played in one setting or another. The survey was, to some degree, kinda self selecting. If you didn't play in any of those settings, it's unlikely you would answer.

Just after the 1:04 mark in the latest Dragon Talk: Morbeck: "The second one is going to be a female Cleric, for reasons that become obvious once you see the area which it [a new Endless Quest book being worked on] is set in, which I probably shouldn't talk about quite yet" Greg Tito: "Nah, that's right, exactly; *I* know what you are talking about, though." gyor obviously not much to go on, but I know the topic of Forgotten Realms religion is your jam: any thoughts on what area might make "a female Cleric" an obvious choice just by the location itself?

  • 06:18 PM - Satyrn mentioned gyor in post 5e needs a Faiths and Avatars style book
This is where polytheism is being confused with Christianity. There is no "uniform" for a priest of Corellon, holy days depend on locality, there are no standardised rituals, and very little in the way of hierarchy. Each temple would have an autonomous high priest, and he/she would have a few acolytes. Appropriate offerings are "anything the god likes" so in the case of Corellon, singing, mostly (and all temples need cash for maintenance). Well, if your right that this is the way Correllon's priesthood works, that seems like the perfect sort content for such a book would provide: "There are no standardised rituals to celebrate Correlon, etc. . . here's a couple examples of how Correlon is worshipped in the Dales, and here's how Corellon is worshipped (and has his name spelled) . . . " So, yeah. I think you're making the case for this book. It's just a shame for gyor that we're not in the TSR era because then there would be a spot in the schedule for it. Because the only reason we won't see this book is the very simple "it doesn't fit in WotC's publishing strategy."

Kobold Avenger - Mearls has mentioned making a Warlock with an Elder Brain patron gyor - I'm not sure I'd like to see a Paladin oath that deals with psionics. I mean the other oaths are thematic: Vengeance, Devotion, Crown, Conquest, Redemption... I suppose the Oath of the Ancients is semi-similar in concept to what a Psi-oath would be like. I'd think the oath would have to be something like "Awakening" because you're awakening your own potential. As a DM I'd force any Paladins of this to probably be part of a religious order associated with Psionic deities.

There is also Subverse, which has tactical JRPG style elements mixed with other sorts of game play like mass effect style exploration and shoot'm ups (not at.the same time of course). Thought that sounded interesting, so I decided to Google it. Then I was like, "oh".

  • 05:53 PM - Tony Vargas quoted gyor in post 40 Million People Have Played D&D [UPDATED!]
Why wouldn't they buy it?Because they played D&D exactly once in the last year and didn't much care for it? I mean, I'm not speculating whether that was 0.1% or 90% of the statistic, but if you went to an AL event once this year, tried D&D, and never came back, you're one of the 40 million. Though, really, even if you didn't care for the TT version, you might go ahead and buy the video game, anyway, if you like videogames to begin with. I think more people need to run games. Grab a module or dungeon and go for it. I think there should be something that makes the entry into DMing easier. There was, and it didn't go over so well - got derided as 'Player Entitlement' & 'not really D&D' - in part for precisely that reason. Part of the D&D mystique /is/ that gulf between player and DM. Narrow it too much and you get a backlash.
  • 04:27 PM - dave2008 quoted gyor in post 40 Million People Have Played D&D [UPDATED!]
If 50% of those 40 million buy Baldur's Gate 3 Larian is going to make an insane amount of money, like possibly several hundred million dollars or more. I doubt anywhere near half of the 40 mil will by Baldur's Gate 3. But I'm not a (video)gamer, so maybe it is just me.

If it's still rising then by definition its not at peak yet. There is still so much more room to grow that it isn't even near peak. Baldur's Gate 3 and the Hypothetical D&D movie haven't hit yet, these could cause an absolutely huge spike in sales. I think we all mean "peak up to this time" when we say peak D&D. The old peak was 1981-83 for the Basic line: everything else was less successful, until 5E.

  • 08:37 PM - Parmandur quoted gyor in post Abyssal Chickens? Chwingas? Gnome Flayers?
So the question becomes what sort of book will the Chwingas be in next? The Eberron setting, most likely: they would fit well, and that book will be full of monsters in all likelihood. Also, they will probably announce Fuller details on that book in the next two weeks or so, so now is a likely time for bits and pieces to start dribbling out.
  • 12:15 PM - MarkB quoted gyor in post Baldur's Gate III Announced; Powered by D&D 5E
My prediction is combat will be like the Fallout 3/New Vegas VATS, which it's real time till you pause then it's turn based with Action Points, but in BGs case it will use modified 5e rules instead of Action Points. So you go in real time, hit pause, and it turns into turn based combat with Action, Minor Actions, Move Actions, Reactions, and 6 second rounds. I'm expecting it to most likely be fully turn-based, like the Divinity games, Turn based games have become more popular in recent years, not only in RPGs but also tactical combat games like XCOM. Given that it's a company that makes turn-based RPGs, making a game based upon a turn-based tabletop RPG, turn-based seems to be the way to bet.

Also First Party Perpective was mentioned I don't know what that is. Just off hand that would be "first person perspective". Not isometric / look down, but seeing everything from your characters eyes / perspective. Unless they have something new in mind. Games are typically first person, third person (seeing your character from behind basically) or isometric (looking down on your character / party from above). I prefer first person myself, but the other perspectives have their fans. I'm going to read the article you linked and see if I find that bit.

One Lore Book to rule them all and in the darkness bind them. I wants it. I needs it. I most haves it. Gives it to us. The problem is that once you give away the secrets, they aren't secret any more. It is attractive and tantalizing while you don't know it, but once you do? Meh. It is a document they use to create new, yet consistent, materials for us. No, don't publish that, because it will take away much of the "new" for us.
