First: To Koren n'Rhys, Please embed that massive wall of text into a spoiler box or something just to shrink it down. It kills the tapatalk app on smartphones and it takes five minutes to scroll through it. That said, thanks for the compilation! Some additional ideas for Jazzing up LMoP: The Cult of Dragon and the Green Dragon: Use this as an opportunity to foreshadow/Create a Lead for the Tyranny of Dragons storyline. Nezznar: Use him to foreshadow/Create a Lead for the Out of the Abyss story line Sildar/Gundren/Iarno/Necromancer can all have ties to the Prophets in Princes of the Apocolypse (Sildar could complain about the "Windreavers" and how they betray the purpose of Nobility. Gundren could perhaps express an interest in some Monks who worship the stone...perhaps they could help "re-open" the mine, Iarno could be a Fire Cultist planning on making Red Brands into cultists as well, the necromancer could trying to investigate the well, which leads to a smaller water node to tap into its power...

  • 08:51 PM - Parmandur quoted Koren n'Rhys in post D&D Essentials Kit Offers a New Place to Start
I checked online yesterday and my local Target wasn't stocking it, but another in the area was supposed to be. Rather than run around chasing a ghost, I ordered a copy online and will have it tomorrow. I'm excited to read through it. It will be interesting to compare the iterations of the basic rules from the Starter Set, to the Stranger Things version to this one. Regarding the exclusivity period - that's a tough one. I understand that FLGSs are getting screwed to some extent, but to my mind, having Target carry the two boxes isn't really hurting them much. People will see this who would never even walk into a gaming store - kids with their moms, casual boardgamers - and just might pick it up and get into our hobby. Plus, Targets are much more common and easy to find than hobby stores. Then when they need the real books, minis and all the other goodies, hopefully they'll seek out a local store for those products before turning to Amazon. Hasbro is about making money, if this boosts the sales...

  • 11:32 PM - Derren quoted Koren n'Rhys in post Shadowrun Sixth Edition Announced!
Yeah, good point. No publisher should want to cater to the desires of their audience... SR will never be "light", so I think you're safe there, but it's pretty clear that they need to swing back in the other direction. People want something playable - in between 4/5E level crunch and the storygames style of Anarchy. Personally, I'm looking forward to more Anarchy books since they are nice to pull lore from to use in another system. You assume that the audience of Shadowrun consists out of people who do not want to play Shadowrun.

Yeah, good point. No publisher should want to cater to the desires of their audience... For creative works? That’s a whole other debate!

  • 08:28 PM - Azzy quoted Koren n'Rhys in post Coming Soon - Warriors of Waterdeep: a new Free to Play D&D mobile game
You can add me to the subset of folks that would love to see new games simply along the lines of the old Ultima and Gold Box D&D games. The next step of Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale and NWN1 was cool, but I don't even need those. Even NWN2 started to go too far for me. I have no need for the full Skyrim experience - I MUCH prefer the turn-based style. I'd love to see they being turned out as mobile games - should be relatively inexpensive to do, even with a license to make them "real" D&D. Bonus points for web-based so I can play on my Chromebook too. If those are already out there (even non-D&D branded), I must just be really bad at finding them. Yeah, I'd love some more turn-based games, too.

I hope 6E is FAR, FAR away, as they've hit a homerun with this one, IMO, but that's out of our hands. Introducing good digital tools is certainly a game-changer as far as the sales landscape is concerned. I don't see myself buying another physical book, to be honest, and I expect there are lots of others who feel the same. WotC will get their money no matter what, but it will be interesting to see how the FLGS factors in. I'd like to see DDB gift cards for sale at the store, that can be used to purchase the content online so that everyone wins. You can buy XBox cards, or whatever, to support your local GameStop, so it's not unreasonable. That would be a way to do it. There could also be bundling with a book too. They could try lots of different sales models. Curse seems like they're working out well, and the other content delivery partners seem to do the same. And yes, I hope that we're at at least the 8 year mark before this happens and preferably year 10 or 12. I think the great thi...

Of course, it's irrelevant now, since I switched over to Beyond where it's all fully searchable on my various devices. Bingo bango bongo. I think next edition there's a chance that digital aids take a front seat. If 6th edition in the mid 2020s is mostly compatible - same math but rewritten classes, races, spells, monsters, and a few more rules options - hopefully we see dndbeyond version of the content available on day one instead of several years in. I wonder what that does to the sales landscape and patterns.

  • 08:57 PM - Mike Myler quoted Koren n'Rhys in post Mentzer's Epic Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter Launches For 10 Game Systems!
I read the Gnome Stew interview which answered this. Each ruleset version is considered a "World" for some reason. <shrugs> Right you are! Thanks Koren n'Rhys! Who is Darlene and what are the 3 little brown books (contents)? i think it will get there considering how well 7th Sea and Numeria did. I plan on the $75 level but need to decide what D&D edition :) edit - since my first post 2 hours ago, it's went up over 8k. for a setting book, maps and a rule book for one of them, and still not knowing what the 3 little brown books are, $75 seems good to me. The green ronin taldorei campaign setting is $35 for 144 pages. DARLENE (she's very specific about the name and asked I try to refer to her that way) has a wiki page linked in the big list on the Kickstarter project along with most everyone else on there. The 3 Little Brown Books are going to be nostalgic in design, like the little brown books they used to have in old D&D box sets, and can vary in topics. I'm only tangentially on the creative team (haven't even got my pitch idea approved yet) but Frank and the higher ups on the design team are in charge of sorting out the p...

  • 09:36 PM - ddaley quoted Koren n'Rhys in post D&D Beyond Launches -- Electronic Tools For D&D Are Here!
There are a number of things that I like about these adventures. First, they are not as grand as the hard cover adventures. There are a number of threads going on in each adventure, and the characters can choose which to deal with and which not to (and in which order). Each thread in the adventure has just about the right amount of substance. So, they are not overwhelming in scope and the party doesn't lose interest as easily. Also, for the DM, prep time is reduced because of the way the adventure is broken up. With all of the threads of activity, it can be a bit difficult to keep things straight... especially if your group doesn't play regularly. I am not sure I am crazy about the 2nd half of LotCS. We'll see. I may transition the group into another adventure before they finish. But, the first half is great. I hope they make these adventures available in D&D Beyond. As you mentioned, they are available for FG (I have purchased them there and in physical form where available). Maybe ...

Funny (sad?) that assigning a primary key value to an entry is causing them problems... Applications have been doing that for many years. Not a new concept. At this point the tooltip coding for homebrew hasn't been added yet. It's a feature that's being requested for sure, and they have talked a bit about the hurdles to do that. With the official content, everything is unique - spells, monsters, whatever, but once you open up to homebrew, you can have umpteen versions of something that people have added with the same name, so you need to differentiate those. I think the idea is to have homebrew stuff get a unique number/code or something, that you could link to, rather than just by name. No timeline or promises on that at this point.

  • 09:17 PM - Ed Laprade quoted Koren n'Rhys in post DND Beyond Pricing announced.
LOL - Unfortunately, that's how we roll here in America. The ridiculous perception that something is cheaper at $99.99 than at $100. It's why Walmart prices things at $xx.98. Such a deal! Yeah, I know the reasoning, but it still irritates me to no end.

  • 05:00 PM - fjw70 quoted Koren n'Rhys in post Are You Planning on Subscribing to D&D Beyond
There isn't a compelling reason, that's the beauty of it. If you don't need the extra slots, don't need to share your content with anyone, adn don't care about other people's homebrew, then you are good to go with just the free account. Another conservative deration is that the free sub will have ads. I have no idea how instructive they will be so it might not be too bad. I was considering not subscribing then I decided to get the master tier so my kids and my group can have access to my content.

I found a bug over the weekend (in the last v12.8x version I think so it may be fixed in v12.94). If you create a Warlock and have Rod of the Pact Keeper, you need to add the bonus to the mods on the spell casting page for Warlock spells. However, if you include a Warlock spell attack then the attack lists the base value (not the total value) for hit and/or save (ex Warlock has +6 base spell attack and Rod of the Pact Keeper +1 (entered as mod for a total of +7) but Eldritch Blast attack on the first page lists +6).This is not a bug, because the modifier you put on the spell sheet page is not linked to the attack section, and never was. Doing that would be problematic as you would then not be able to set either of them individually, they would always have to be identical and that is hard to do when multiclassing. If you want to have modifiers like that, you are going to have to set them for each thing individually. So, a "Scripting for Idiots" question: I have a player running a Wizard with a...

I'll just namedrop The Shannara Chronicles here, then. Not...good, but not horrible either, for a TV had some potential, just not quite a big enough budget and having mtv involved didnt help. They are kinda poisoness nowadays. Still, I have seen worse and hopefully 2nd season will be better.

Quick question - maybe I'm just missing it. Is there a way to add more than the 5 default lines to the Attacks box on the first page, or turn on another sheet with more on it? Between a few weapons and cantrips, I find I run out of space really fast and it would be nice to have a spot for more. A way to add more lines there, maybe removing some from the three boxes above it would be great, though I doubt that functionality is possible. Thanks!Depending on which version and type of the sheet you use, you can have 6 attack boxes on the first page. However, there is no feature to create more. I have put it forward as a new option that I'm willing to create, but it has never been picked as the 'next feature' by the people over on my Patreon (where I post the polls for what feature I should create next). My idea is to remove some of the Magic Item boxes on the overflow page and replace them with an extra attack section.

Indeed it is, and that's why the OP asked here, I'd say. :D This is a pretty bad place to look for an admin ruling. While admins do occasionally swing by here, they are WAY more commonly seen posting on the D&D Adventurers League Facebook Group.

It's great to see this coming to life again! I'm very much looking forward to the Volo's document as well. While I can certainly see the value of the modifications you made in some cases, there are sure to be people who will want to run things by the book. Thanks for the kind words. It's perfectly reasonable that people will want to run them as written, especially in light of AL rules that require it.

Uh, he said right in his post that it's NOT the pic from the screen, but similar and posted that for reference. Ah, it's an illustrated arrow, not one of the graphic design elements. I see. I misunderstood. Well, I don't recall anything resembling that arrowhead in the 5e books I have – PHB, DMG, MM, Volo's, OOtA, CoS.

  • 10:36 PM - tardigrade quoted Koren n'Rhys in post Enhancing "Storm King's Thunder"
Once on the road to Nightstone, I kickstarted things a bit by dropping in the goblin ambush scene from Lost Mine - dropped two of the 5 PCs but everyone survived in the end. That reminds me - my party is currently level 2, doing various small quests around the Triboar area and was going to set off to Nightstone in a session or two, but they're mostly new players and seem to be enjoying the low levels so I don't want to zoom up levels too quickly. Does anyone familiar with LMoP have any thoughts on how straightforward (or otherwise) it would be to stitch LMoP into SKT, in whole or in part, either before Nightstone or between Nightstone and Triboar? It sounds workable in principle and I liked the sound of the suggestion above about using the spellforge to foreshadow the Vodinod, but I don't have LMoP (yet), and I'd rather not buy it if there's something in that plan that really won't work. I'm a little worried about goblin fatigue, though - they've already faced some and they've got more to com...

First - thank you for this amazing resource. It's one of the very few PWYW items I've actually paid for, if that says anything other than that I'm cheap... I downloaded v12.85 yesterday and updated a few character sheets, various classes, races - no problems at all. However today I opened one to make a small change, and somehow the AC calculation got messed up. Both the Dex number in the Armor box, and the calculated AC shown in the shield now say "NaN". I can't see what I could have done. I didn't make any changes to Dex, armor or shield areas, and it won't let me change the text for either spot that says NAN now. Any ideas what might have happened? I'd hate to have to re-enter everything only to have it happen again.First off, great to hear you like the sheet! This seems like a strange error. This is not supposed to happen, so I have no idea how it might have happened and rely on you to inform me how it happened ;) I would like to remedy this problem if it is a bug in the sheet, but I don't r...
