Other way for me, Superchunk77, I saw this on the front page and thought "The Expanse? Oh, right, I remember hearing they were making an RPG. Cool. Love the show. Nice and "low-tech sci-fi", in a way". Right after that I though "Oh gods, please don't make the system be FATE!". I don't like FATE very much at all...but it seems like a LOT of "TV/Movie" rpg translations are heading to that system or sometimes the Cortex system (which isn't great either, imho). But now I see it's with the AGE system? :) Cool. I don't mind that system at all, actually, I guess I kinda like it (say, 7 our of 10)'s a little 'simple' or 'meta' (I like to have a bit more crunch in a system...even if I then change or ignore bit's of it), but still workable. Keeping my eye on this game for sure! :) ^_^ Paul L. Ming

Superchunk77 #35 Great idea, you nail it, but both classes are cool for warlock. The templars shout for it , but your idea is such an easy solution for another Dasrksun dillema. I never did 4e darksun but isn' t it that it had no clerics at all? Your solution would cover 2nd ed and 4e then for the elemental cleric.

  • 10:10 PM - Skyscraper mentioned Superchunk77 in post Unearthed Arcana - Mass Combat Rules
I like the idea of these rules. It creates a mini game where strategy trumps role-playing, for a short term activity within a campaign. I like the idea of making solos as important as an entire stand. It's a reprensentation of the solo's efficiency and importance in battles. It's fun to consider a solo as capable of eliminating an entire group of combatants, heroic deeds! If it irks your sense of realism, you could maybe consider having stands represent different numbers of creatures, for example a stand of magic-users could comprise 2, 3 or 4 creatures instead of 10. If the creature is so important such that you want it to be on equal footing with a solo, then... make it a solo :) But I believe stands are meant to represent groups of grunts. Superchunk77 I have not seen reference to a battle between solos reverting to 6 second rounds. This was in a previous article by Mearls when he had first intruduced this concept some months ago, but apparently it's been dropped in this version of the mass battle rules. Personally, I'm pretty happy with that as I didn't want to see a solo vs solo fight in-between rounds of the mass battle. I'd like to be able to test these rules in the near future. Hopefully I get a chance to try them out, as I'll be DMing a campaign where mass battles would exist. I'd love to see they come into play. For now, it's tough to see how the strategy of identifying skirmishers vs regiments, how making bigger units or more smaller ones, how to improve stands with solos/commanders, and this kind of stuff, will influence play. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

I only mentioned damage output as that seemed to be the biggest gripe from the feedback I've seen. Granted, we are only level 6 right now, but I foresee his character being extremely useful even at the higher levels. We've got a rogue, fighter, and warlock in the party too so he's the go-to guy for anything survival or nature related. He took the Hunter subtype if that matters. The complaint I most often hear/read are the features you gain that pertain to specific terrains. Regardless of level, survival/nature will be of no help if not in favored terrain. That is why they are terrible and the biggest complaint

  • 01:35 PM - Rone Barton quoted Superchunk77 in post RPG Crowdfunding News – Grimmerspace, Dust Wardens, The After plus 6 Dice Kickstarters
Grimmerspace looks pretty sick. Won't be running it with Starfinder, but as a setting it's very cool. Has a very big Chronicles of Riddick vibe going on. Thanks, Superchunk77! And thanks to Egg for the mention! Very much appreciated! :) Among the multitude of different adventure scenarios and horror subgenres available to players, you can definitely play through Grimmerspace Chronicles of Riddick style among the polities of the Crux at the Gliding Rim's center. Move out toward the Edge of the galaxy and you're more talking Pitch Black and Riddick. Go down the Gyre below the G-Rim and things gets Hellraiser meets Sonny the Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs bird right quick. ;)

  • 10:17 PM - Mistwell quoted Superchunk77 in post Stargate RPG Powered By 5E Announced from Wyvern Gaming
I understand the market share aspect of it, but a lot of people are slapping the 5e logo onto their products now and completely ignoring a lot of the fundamentals that went into developing that game. I won't name names, but there are some I've seen that simply take existing Pathfinder products, tweak a few skill names, and then market them as 5e products. That's just lazy design. OK, but given the designer comments in this thread, we know that's not happening here. So, why bring it up in this thread? This developer needs to be very careful about how they implement the 5e mechanics into this Stargate game. There's a lot of risk doing it this way. Change too much and people will be upset that it's not 5e. Change too little and people will be upset that it's not Stargate. Either way, they're going to need to spend a LOT of time on mechanics which could have easily been avoided if they went with a different system. So the trade-off is you need to spend a lot of time and testing to get a 5e tw...

I think Savage Worlds would have been a better choice for the rules system. Savage Worlds and several other games including FATE (which I don't like).

  • 02:26 PM - Aldarc quoted Superchunk77 in post "My Pathfinder Spoiler" Glimpses At Pathfinder 2
I wonder who will publish their psionics rules first? Pathfinder 2 or 5e?I'm fairly certain that one of the reasons why Paizo developed their psychic adventures line for PF1 was because they actually aren't the biggest fan of psionics per se. Most of things labeled as psionics published for PF1 were done by Dreamscarred Press, who is also working on creating psionics for Starfinder.
  • 12:57 AM - Jer quoted Superchunk77 in post "My Pathfinder Spoiler" Glimpses At Pathfinder 2
Why is Spoiler 21 named "Human" Heritage instead of Elf Heritage? I wonder who will publish their psionics rules first? Pathfinder 2 or 5e? I would assume Paizo, since the earliest I would expect to see them for 5e would be next fall, and I suspect they won't be coming that soon. Meanwhile, I suspect that PF2 will have more frequent releases.

  • 06:30 PM - Ralif Redhammer quoted Superchunk77 in post What DO You Get When You Cross Critical Role With Game Of Thrones?
I've heard good things about the ASOIAF RPG, what with its "social HP" and whatnot. To answer your questions, I'm tempted to just run Birthright in 2e, it's original rules set. I've been thinking about running a 2e throwback campaign, after having done a 1e one some years back. But part of me also thinks that it wouldn't be too hard to bolt on the Birthright rulership rules to 5e. Which rules are you mulling over? ASoIaF GoT edition is the one I've been more impressed with, but the GoO d20 version isn't too bad either, though it lacks rules for mass combat and house rulership.

Curious to know why you think being large is OP? And before you mention the double damage over-sized weapons mentioned in the DMG, I would take into account that centaurs have a human-sized torso and arms, and hence shouldn't be able to wield such weapons. It’s not just the Large size, although you’ll notice that WotC avoids allowing Large PC races like the plague. It’s the overall package, including the 50’ base movement speed. Also, while they might have a human-sized torso, there is nothing in the write-up indicating that they are limited to Medium-sized weapons. That would probably be my first house-rule, were I to allow this race.

This should have been a free supplement given that it's not a final draft. Follow Paizo's lead on how they're handling the Pathfinder 2e playtest. While the Wayfarer's Guide itself is not free (nor do I think it should be), the crunchy bits are being made available for free through Unearthed Arcana. The latest article, "Races of Eberron" include the same racial write-ups as found in the Wayfarer's Guide for the changelings, kalashtar, shifters, and warforged. For free. Later articles will give us the artificer class, and then dragonmarks. Again, all for free. Note: The artificer is not currently in the Wayfarer's Guide, but at some point it will be added. At no additional cost. Start here:

It's a shame this was made with the AGE system. Cool setting, but not a fan of the rules engine at all.Have you looked at the Modern AGE, or are you basing this on Fantasy AGE? Modern AGE has no character classes, for instance (but still has 20 levels). Modern AGE seems like it should work okay with the Expanse. However (obviously) Green Ronin getting the licence means we won't be seeing a version I'd like better, such as Traveller Expanse or GURPS Expanse. [Whilst that kills my dream of a "hard" Science Fiction box set powered by GURPS using the Expanse as the default setting, realistically it was never likely to happen (and might have killed off GURPS if it had, since there doesn't seem to be much of a market for hard science fiction RPGs).] However, what is bothering me more is that Green Ronin's track record of extremely slow releases means there won't be much Expanse support in the foreseeable future. I basically backed the kickstarter as a way of ensuring I at least get the book withi...
