Okay, I definitely didn't pick up on Heids weird teleportation trick in the letter until you mentioned it. I find that pretty amusing, but it still doesn't say much about any significance of the box itself

Reading into the last book there is a small section about The Titan Box. Everything about it makes it seem more important than it is. It's kept in Drakr for some reason, and has engravings of all the Fey Titans on it. It is delivered in a way that makes it seem like strings had to be pulled. Its arrival seems like it's supposed to be very important and unlock great a great secret or magical item....

  • 07:30 PM - steeldragons mentioned Zipster in post World of Orea: A Primer of the Histories (in short) Part 1 of 2
At the friendly suggestion from Zipster, I thought I'd offer a simple (or as simple as I can make it) timeline of the basic history of the World of Orea to give some context to the various persons, places and things I mention, offhandedly, in many of my posts. Also, hopefully, in more easily bite-sized chunks for you gracious readers to process. So let's give this a go, shall we... The Birth of the World - The "god" Ahl exists and separates from himself the sky. In so doing, Ahl creates the sun, moons and stars, all of the firmament, and it is called Zho. By creating/separating the sky from his being, Ahl himself becomes the primordial earth. - Ahl creates the first dragons as a gift for Zho. They are henceforth referred to throughout the ages as "the Children of Zho." - Zho, in turn, creates the titans as a gift for Ahl, who are similarly referred to throughout history, myth , song and tale, as [guess?] "the Children of Ahl." - Through the [shall we say] "dance" of Ahl nd Zho, the primordial sea comes into being. She is ...

  • 02:35 AM - SanjMerchant quoted Zipster in post 5E Warlock patron list?
Yeah, I restricted my players from being able to select anything but Fey Pact. After Ashima-shimtu, Fiend Pact opens up. But, Im already seeing ways I could have allowed that. And, I love the Hexblade pact based off Srasama. If you go the route of "unlocking" pacts, Linia, the angelic prisoner in the vault, would make for a good specific patron. If you need a narrative reason to connect her to AS before the party gets to Odiem in person, hee connection to the sea via blood magic works. Might be interesting if Shijen IS your patron. Of course, I'm also a big proponent of reflavoring pacts to suit: no reason you can't take what is mechanically a Great Old One pact and reskin it as being a particularly devious Faerie King.

  • 02:26 PM - gideonpepys quoted Zipster in post Adventure 12 Question [Spoilers, natch]
I think, at this point in the game, the PCs are generally on a level of resourcefulness that they should be thinking that they can find a way; that something will present itself. If it's played up as necessary to save reality, or to stop Nicodemus then the PCs will have little reason not to go. At this point, hero has an implication of sacrifice I think. Something like this, then?

  • 09:02 AM - Tormyr quoted Zipster in post (Spoilers) Secrets of the Skull
One thing I've recently incorporated into my game that sort of ties in with this is that my PCs all have a sort of "legendary save" or action; a single-use, campaign "Oh :):):):)" button for the character; could prevent a death, land a needed hit as a crit, make a save or something along those lines when the tension is high and tough. No one has used it yet, but when they do I will flash them forward in the narrative to the battle on Reida against the Voice of Rot. The idea behind it all being that the PC, in the future, is seeing parts of their own time line, and at a penalty in their fight against VoR they can aid themselves in the past, in a moment they thought was critical. The descriptors will all be ominous and vague, never saying what or where exactly they are, but more along the lines of "You couldn't have thought things would go like this; but now, with this strange sky full of stars around you, and the massive skeletal monster before you, the severity of the situation dawns on you." ...

  • 05:42 AM - gideonpepys quoted Zipster in post Clergy hierarch information
Hm. Slvestri is possible, but definitely not what I was originally thinking. Seems there isn't a whole lot of information about many hierarchs. I can't imagine that the vault doesn't have any sort of things which would keep something in stasis. PC trapped there for 400 years as an infant in stasis, freed by Masardik after returning from Risur. It could definitely work. Thanks for a different idea! He could have been kept in stasis inside Linia. Who knows how long an angel's gestation period is?

  • 06:25 AM - gideonpepys quoted Zipster in post Clergy hierarch information
Indeed, I do mean Linia. Misspelt in the last post. The PC aasimar is around 75, and Linia is sort of a prized possession of the Clergy in the vault according to her brief appearance in adventure 4. Any hierarch who went in that vault would know about her, just as Cippiano knows if Ashima Shimtu. So we're in the realm of the last 100 Years which is feasible If the hierarch in question impregnated Linia against her will, is it possible that the child was held in stasis in some way, either by her or by the clergy? I ask only because one candidate who springs to mind is Cardinal Silvestri. But he died 500 years ago.

  • 11:25 AM - clearstream quoted Zipster in post How common is resurrection in your game?
A body missing limbs can be received, but that limb won't regenerate. Lose an arm and be revivified and you have no arm. Thus, lose a head and revivify will bring you back decapitated and that will re-kill the pc I feel like losing your head entails loss of an organ! But what does losing an arm mean, in game terms, without applying homebrew?

  • 06:53 PM - Evil Midnight Lurker quoted Zipster in post ZEITGEIST 5E
I believe it's in the players guide to zeitgeist that, at least in Pathfinder, that due to training and laws that Constables are able to deal non-lethal damage without issue. Police shouldn't be just running around and killing people, so I generally give them the opportunity to do non-lethal damage whenever they choose. Sometimes I make them specify. Sometimes I offer clues to whether people are nearly at 0hp and see if they specify accordingly. And in some cases regarding enemies that the PCs have history and grudge with - such as Lorcan Kell- I'll require a willpower sav or check to do non-lethal damage Sent from my SM-G955U using EN World mobile app In the 5e guide, it's just noted that 5e normally allows you to knock out a target with melee but only melee damage, hence my question.

  • 03:30 PM - Caliban quoted Zipster in post Optimizing Volo PC races
Is it just me, or am I missing Bugbear, Yuanti, Hobgoblins, minotaurs and other races mentioned here as playable races in Volo? And, why has no one mentioned the Kenko? Sorry - I'm just having too much fun thinking of a Kenko bard... Chapter 2: Character Races Page 118: Monstrous Adventurers - Bugbear, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Kobold, Orc, and Yaun-Ti
  • 08:30 AM - Phangz quoted Zipster in post I homebrewed Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer from Overwatch. Would like some opinions.
Reinhardt is certainly a fun character. You're doing a bit more than creating his hammer, you're almost attempting to create him. Nonetheless, here's my ideas: I'd change your wording of "until the next dawn" into "after finishing a long rest. I'd also reduce the amount of charges down to three, as four just seems like a lot. The cleave affect, in my opinion, should work the same as it does in other uses of similar features; namely, if the rocket hammer kills/knocks unconscious an enemy, a second attack is made towards an second target. While Reinhardts hammer does do aoe attacks in overwatch, Reinhardt isn't fighting Ogres, Giants, Dragons and other creatures clad in heavy armor and wielding shields and the such things that would prevent a cleave from happening every time he makes an attack. Another idea is to give a couple more charges to the item, but have each of these abilities take one charge. This, I think, would balance the weapon much more. For instance: a Rocket-Swing attack could ...

  • 12:06 PM - Li Shenron quoted Zipster in post How to make a believable pantheon for a homebrew world.
So, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to do this? One option could be to pick some real-world religions, replace all real-world names and terms, and then modify the details here and there. As you say, the main difference between D&D religions and real-life religions, is that the former are primarily a matter of allegiance while the latter are primarily a matter of belief. There is no such thing as "I don't believe in Hextor" in D&D because there is no question on what deities exist, they just do; instead, it's a matter of what side do you pick (if you pick a side at all). The difficulty in representing a more realistic take on religions, is that belief is also added, but eventually there is disagreement at every possible level, even at the level at which some pretend they don't believe but rather know, while others that it is impossible to know. This means, that real-world religions have a lot of overlapping: for instance all monotheistic religions essentially believe in Good, but...

  • 11:12 PM - DMMike quoted Zipster in post How to make a believable pantheon for a homebrew world.
In my gam eworld, I am trying to replicate this sense of religious tension that exists in our world, while also maintaining a sense of continuity. Each belief system in our world has a creation story/myth, and with them they all have heroes, or figures of great importance that vary greatly. On the other side of the coin, in our world a story about a great flood is found within many cultures and thoughts of a coming apocalypse/great disaster is shared, though explicit details may not be. It would seem that to make one pantheon, and have it split and divided up between these cultures which then begin to argue/give favoritism to things would be a logical way to emulate this, however that seems like a cop-out because every culture/system still has whatever religious truth, no matter how much they skewed it may have become, which is something that I'd like to avoid. So, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to do this? I feel like it's difficult to create a false pantheon in a fantasy world ...
  • 12:05 AM - Derren quoted Zipster in post How to make a believable pantheon for a homebrew world.
My point in all of this is that many of our world beliefs are exclusive to themselves, in that they deny the opposing schools beliefs. Actually I think that is a (nearly) exclusive trait of the abrahamic religions. Most other bigger religions and also the ancient ones are pretty tolerant when it comes to other faiths and have very often incorporated foreign deities into their own pantheon.
