It's easy, video streaming and even pop up video adds. I use wireless a lot but sometimes forget to use data. One month my wife and myself used 490 GB. We stream every thing though, plus gaming etc. Downloading a single game off EA access or Xbox gamepads can also be 100GB. Satellite dish also got knocked back in 2011 or so and have had no reception since then. And sometimes we...

RPGs live and die by their setting. Only D&D can afford to go "setting agnostic" (and that is barely) by virtue of its size and prominence. Without a strong setting a random RPG is but a set of bland mechanics, and if it's fantasy themed, it is just a heartbreaker. For identity purposes World of Darkness is Storyteller, Freedom City is M&M, and Golarion is Pathfinder. Yes, other settings can work...

Yeah you big boss is a bit on the east side. Still about ten times better than what I can put together, I don't have the desktop publishing skills. Haven't got around to running it as megadungeons don't seem to be to popular these days. I didn't realise you put it together until after I bought it and saw it in your signature.

Ideally I would have ability modifiers not affecting skill bonus by themselves, I would rather high ability bonuses helped you have higher proficiency levels faster. Edit: An on topic, this isn't necessarily a judgment of value, what I got from the playtest was that PF2 somehow managed to have the bad parts of 4e without the good stuff. I'm still on the fence on whether to give it some of my...

My cool story. We were playing X8 Drums on Fire Mountain. There was a puzzle involving carvings of dancing figures. To open the door you have to reenact the dance sequence and fill in the missing blanks. Missing blank type puzzles were also in 80s game books I played when I was 10 or so. Anyway I printed out the dance sections and gave it to my players. One of them was a bit more...

I don't care if people don't like OSR games. I play 5E as that's what everyone plays. Happy the play OSR and would sign up. Not going to stand on a soapbox and claim it's the greatest thing ever. Don't like it that's fine don't play. My D&D KGB aren't going to turn put a gun to your head and drag you off to the OSR gulag and make you play. It's not for everyone and that's fine.

Main reason is no Gnome Paladin's dual wielding rapiers. I've run 2E for modern gamers and they've enjoyed it. There's a 16 yo at the FLGS running 5E Planescape. Mechanics not the best, playstyle is still fun.

The young girl is apparently John's replacement and he dies at the start. According to leaks from test screenings could be BS. Robots are not Skynet some new company. If they pull the old variant timeline thing meh, Skynet being replaced could make sense depending on their storytelling. Especially if the Terminators develop free will or can break their programming.

I think it is a glaring omission because: a) The witch is important in Golarion (the most common non-divine caster) and b) the witch is an obvious primary occult caster, by not having it the bard was square pegged into the tradition and as a primary caster at the expense of other stuff. (IMO primal or arcane fitted better for the bard)

I don't go because I'm not into the MCU. We used to go a lot. The young people aren't going either for these reboots. Sure PR might claim they're aiming movies at everyone but that means you're really targeting no one. A few might be exceptions to that MCU, old Star Wars, Disney animated films in the (90's), Pixar 5+ years ago. MCU is an exception to basically everything. Movies...

Depends if they're marketing nostalgia but the target audience is younger crowd makes little sense. I think that's why they're getting so many flops lately. They're rebooting 80s and 90s franchises but trying to aim them at the wrong crowds. If you're young most won't care to much about Arnie or Linda so why use them in trailers. Men in Black no Will Smith. Young ones don't have the...

I designed a rough Warlord chassis, it's a lot of work converting a full 4E class. I would probably covert stuff a little bit different than 4E fans mostly due to ogl/gsl. The Warlock I think can be used as a template for 4E classes tweaking things like hit dice etc as required. I don't think at will attack granting works in 4E but you can design a class better at it than the Battlemaster.

Playtest was a mess/awful. Played a lot better than it looked. I think I can see what they were trying to do but I had seen something similar and better with Star Wars Saga. As far as I could see they were going for unified class progression with alternate class features via options. So negative playtest experience plus awful outdated art that kind of looked bad in 2008/9 on 4E and...

Marginal and even you said it was 1/3rd warlord iirc. Might have been Tony. It's not the only example though. You can build the warlock like a 4E one or 3E one. 4E races are there but optional, so are 4E type feats like sentinel and martial healing. Simple fighter champion, complex one Battlemaster. Throw in the optional rules like short rests being 5 minutes or weapon speeds....

Lightning leash makes sense in a D&D world. In world's where supernatural abilities exist it's no big deal if people use psionics, magic, the force etc. It's an unavoidable mundane effect which is the problem. As I said if you like that sort of thing it's fine but that's why it gets mocked. A flaming sword is no big deal in D&D land.

Stick that ability on NPCs and start using it on PCs every combat. See if if you have any players left after a month or two. Forced anything in D&D no save doesn't tend to go down well. Minor damage maybe like magic missile.

Come and Get it's effects can also be redonevas magical in nature since in 5E you have a magical fighter. If you want a non magical/psionic version people will continue mocking it as every enemy it gets used on is an idiot. If you like that sort of thing it's fine, but that's why people laugh at it.

The dreaded word reshoot and negative reactions to test screenings are doing the rounds. Seems to me they made two more big mistakes. 1. Identify your core audience. If you like Terminator you probably like Terminator 2. Your age target demograph is probably 40 to 50 years old. T2 was 1991. 2. Failing to identify what makes Terminator tick. Arnie as the T-800 is a big part of that....

4E was functionally out if print by 2011. Still combine that with the start of the 4E phb about the next decade it seems the assumption is 10 years for a D&D edition. Spitting out 3 editions in 7 or 8 years doesn't work as they did 3 editions of Star Wars as well.

It all depends on context, it isn't a clear cut black and white issue. In this particular context doesn't matter that badly. But for example, in 5e what's core and what isn't does matter. I still can't have an aasimar divine soul in AL for example, because neither is core! Core matters, some DMs play with core-only. Some groups demand core-only. Core classes/races receive more attention from...

It's a marginal increase in damage at a level a lot of games won't make it to and the Paladin is still better overall because if everything else it's does. The...

Shortage of reliable DMs might be more accurate. Most can't afford a phb. The DM charging is in Seattle or somewhere like that? His clients were Google staff iirc.

It's spells are not very exciting but for what I wanted it does very well. Damage is ok hex plus agonising blast. Weak at AoEs relative to the fiend. Generally I like it, probably wouldn't play it again any time soon though.

Probably more spell slots, more efficient healing spells and tweaking buff spells so there's more than bless and spiritual guardians being used. Right now they have lost the healing much thing to Druids (life clerics might be an exception) and you have things like Celestial Warlock and that healer Druid who are better at bonus action brevival as the in effect get 4 free healing words built in....

Has anyone recently rewatched anything from the 80s? We recently picked up Amazon Prime in addition to Netflix and I rewatch The Highlander. I enjoyed this movie years ago probably watched it in the early 90s so haven't seen it since at least Highlander 3. It's a big ad for Queen music. It was a bit cheesy and corny. Even had a 80s training montage. Still they had a bit of character...

Better combat low levels is the big problem. Ye olde weapon specialization in 2E enabled this. Action surge as an encounter type power would be a Jon magical buff.

White rooms useful for forums, but in typical games you don't tend to see the power builds in action. Same as why 3E probably worked well most of the time. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Or know how to abuse it. Team work is a bit of a foreign concept with casuals and newbies so the rarely if ever buff each other or have things like battlemasters granting...

White room analysis normally involves some high level theory craft build cherry picked for a certain level. If you have to pick level 14 or 17 with an example you have already list the argument IMHO. Rogues don't out damage fighters much except maybe at certain levels or via help from others.

Yep it's debatable if fighters are any better at combat than say rangers and paladin's. If they are it's marginal and Paladin's and rangers do other stuff. The white room theory craft fighter build is sharpshooter+hand crossbow expert. More level 11+ and assumes a magical hand crossbow which tend to be rare. Airlock works from level one, fighter might be marginally ahead in damage level...

To break the 3E cleric you really needed persistent spell feat and/or splat book PrCs. It might be slightly OP but it wasn't broken PHB only. Maybe at the highest levels but I'm talking more about real games. 3.0 Druid natural spell feat was also splat book. 3.5 added it to core and spontaneous summoning.

It wasn't as explicit perhaps nor as interesting. To break the 3E cleric you needed splat book support. I think the specialty priest of Mystra could cast 23/24 spheres through to level 6. It didn't really break the game as they didn't get more spell slots, and the problem spells of 3.X didn't exist. That specialty priest is often held up on of the more broken ones (it's not). When we play...

Since around 2003 I think the D&D designers have dropped the ball with great weapons across multiple editions. Put simply they deal to much damage relative to one handed weapons. Note I'm not disputing they shouldn't but I think a roughly 50% boost in damage (6.5 or 7 vs 4.5 for a d8 weapon). Of course you gave up using a shield. IIRC 3.0 let you deal 50% more strength damage. Maybe they...

More an indication the Paladin is OP. Most of the charisma based classes are. Fighters are the best at higher levels- at damage. Even with feats the paladin's aura at 6 is better than any feat. 5E has a heap of overkill, you don't really need the -5/+10 feats. Sentinel us fairly good especially in a rogue.

What are the three takes? PHB, Complete Priest, Faith's and Avatars/Dragon? I can also think of Forgotten Realm Adventures (revised in Faith's and Avatars), Tome of Magic, and Skills and Powers. We had that one guy who liked clerics, otherwise the specialty priests IMHO were bribes to play one. I do most of the healing in my group, celestial warlock plus healer feat.

  • 04:15 AM - LordEntrails mentioned Zardnaar in post What's the Best Setting TEMPLATE?
So what I'm doing is I already have an adventure series (only the first is yet published, Balance Disturbed on the DMsG). But, I realize as I detail out more and more of these adventures, I have lots of supporting information on the region. It seems like it would make sense to put this into a settings guide. So that's why I'm asking. Given that I'm using the FR, I won't need to detail the gods, but I do need to detail the region, organizations/power brokers and such. Gradine, I've never read the Eberron CS, so I'll go check that one out (assuming I can find it reasonable priced). Zardnaar, Never heard of the Inner Sea World Guide, I'll see what Google can tell me.

On the flipside, Zardnaar has created a rough outline of a warlord but it's only had a handful of replies. The question for all the people that want a warlord is, why aren't they jumping in and offering up some feedback? Is it because it isn't an official wotc warlord because the way things are going, I'm not sure wotc are going to create an official warlord any time soon so homebrew or 3rd party options are all we have.

  • 09:37 AM - pemerton mentioned Zardnaar in post Lich's To Weak for Their CR?
...g, it knows what spell load out they have, it knows common spells and tactics they use; it knows the Cleric is the biggest danger.I don't think this is self-evident. Scrying requires the lich to either choose a location at a 10 minute period when the PCs happen to be there; or to choose to scry on one of the PCs (and if this is the cleric, there is some chance the character will make the WIS save, with a +5 (presumably) for second-hand knowledge only). Especially if the PCs are low level, and stumbling onto the lich more-or-less inadvertently, I think there is a real chance that the lich has not scried on them. I've always thought liches were at their most thematically effective when they operate off-stage.The classic liches I think of are from Conan, and all act in the field - Thugra Khotan, Xaltotun, and (arguably, at least) Tsotha-lanti. Their powerful magic gives them the capability to overcome the adventurers that others lack! That said, it sounds like the lich in Zardnaar's adventure is a bit more of an accidental enemy than someone who is hell-bent on defeating the PCs? The only summary/review I found of the adventure with a quick Google was this - not very flattering!

  • 07:13 PM - Sword of Spirit mentioned Zardnaar in post New to D&D. Warlock - Sorcerer Multiclass
...ts of the rules that you are still working on. If your group cares about using the rules by the book, go with a simpler start, but the more complexity you involve (such as the more advanced classes from the PHB) the more stuff is going to get messed up on the rules. If not, it doesn't matter what you play. For #3, are you just going for a character that isn't subpar, or are you trying to "break the game", or something in-between? Do you care about how your character fits into the world's lore and/or believability, or are you thinking in terms of mechanical benefits first? #4 is important, because we can tell you how to make a warlock/sorcerer of any power level. There is no issue with simply being effective with that combo--the issue is whether you want to be silly good or not. And if you are silly good and the rest of your group is subpar, is that going to be an issue or is everyone going to laugh about it and have fun? The easiest way to be very powerful is the SorLock build that Zardnaar described, but it takes an understanding of the rules that is going to take a while (as the game in general does, hence the suggestion of trying something very simple at first--unless you are going to be locked into a character for a year or more). The solution that sounds best to me is the idea you had of playing with a group on Roll20 for a bit. Find a group that is experienced with the rules (unless you don't care about doing them by the book) and is willing to help you learn them, play a character of no more than moderate complexity, and hopefully by the time your group gets together you'll be ready to do a more complex character according to whatever your answers to those questions are.

  • 09:11 PM - RCanine mentioned Zardnaar in post Classes Rated By Tier
That's just false. I've DMed for clerics, and while those spells are all very good, druids do it better. Conjure animals beats all of the above. I could see conjure animals being good in some circumstances, but it's highly dependent on your DM being gracious. There's nothing preventing the DM from ruling 8 CR 1/4 or lower creatures are all CR zero because the spell is annoying, and like Zardnaar said, they're also vulnerable to AoE and damage immunities. The three spells I quoted remain relevant to varying degrees for the cleric's entire career and are not situational at all. Your argument about AC is silly; with only 5 ASIs in their career, what Druid is going to spend 2-3 of them on Dex? There are two other things Clerics get that druids don't that are worth mentioning: * Extra Cantrip or attack damage scaling at level 8 * The ability to use a weapon and shield without Warcaster due to the emblem spell focus type I disagree with Zard that Land druid's wild shape becomes useless, I think it lets the Druid use WS in exploration/social pillars instead; Moon Druid is stuck using WS for combat. Personally I love druids, but I think they got the short end of the stick design-wise in 5E.

Donning my flame-retardant suit and submitting my first pass at house ruling some of the feats I consider to be outliers in power level (either two low or high), to help prevent them from breaking encounter design and reducing their impact for Variant Humans at early levels to keep them more in line with other races. Especially curious what @Zardnaar thinks, given he's a constant critic of SS and GWM feats. Combat Shooter This feat replaces the Crossbow Expert feat on page 165 of the PHB. You excel at using a ranged weapon at point-blank range. You gain the following benefits while wielding a ranged weapon with which you are proficient: Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls. You can use your crossbow, sling (while loaded), or net as a melee weapon. When used in this way, your weapon does 1d4 bludgeoning damage or 1d8 bludgeoning damage if it has the two-handed property. When you use the Attack action and attack with a one-handed weapon, you can use a bonus action to attack with a one-handed ranged weapon you are holding. Design notes: this feat is something most ranged fighters will want, but the original text makes crossbows overshadow other ranged weapons. This extends the bonus action attack benefit of hand crossbows to slings and blowguns, and instead of mak...

Zardnaar The whole gist of your OP seems to be this: "X & Y feat are broken, not because of their own design, but because you can make them better by expending other resources or possessing magic items." • 11:24 AM - pukunui mentioned Zardnaar in post Book With Page Falling Out
Zardnaar: WotC is more than happy to replace faulty books. However, you have to pay to ship it to them, and then they will "reimburse" you the cost of the shipping by including miscellaneous goods along with the replacement book. That's what I was told when I inquired about getting a replacement for my PHB. So it really comes down to a cost thing. It's not going to be cheap to ship a hardback book across the Pacific, and the stuff you'll get in return will probably be crap. I buy all my 5e books from the Book Depository, so I contacted them instead and they gave me some of my money back. In the meantime, a dab of glue here and there has kept my PHB together just fine. Eventually I'll replace it with a new one, but only when I can be absolutely sure that the new one is up-to-date with all the errata and such in it.

Zardnaar why are asking folks if it's too powerful? You seem to be of the opinion that it's not, and you ignore anyone's attempt to disagree. So why ask the question? If it were my game, I wouldn't bother to even have the item in there if the chances of the PCs finding it is so slim. Since that's the case, I have to ask why is it even in there. You described a story element of finding a lost elven city, which is pretty interesting...so if that's eventually where the campaign needs to go, then I understand the item. However, the fact that they may not find it implies that it's not necessary for them to have it this early in the campaign. If it was me, I'd hold off on the item until such a time as it was needed. Or I'd somehow limit its use...perhaps they have to leave it for a sage so that the carvings on the blade can be deciphered and the lost city found. Or more simply, I'd make the item not be a weapon....nothing about the story element seems to require it. Everyone plays different...
  • 01:20 AM - Jaelommiss mentioned Zardnaar in post Level 1 Magic Item To Powerful?
I don't think that handing out a +3 weapon at first level is really a problem. Now before everyone jumps me for this, I'd like to explain. You, Zardnaar, understand how magic items work in 5e. I can tell that from your posts. You know that this would be very powerful for the character and likely last them for their entire career. As such, you also wouldn't hand such items out like candy and are therefore unlikely to significantly harm game balance. Let's think about what this item would be. A +3 weapon is listed as Very Rare. Giving an extra attack on a kill (thought I will echo those who suggest making it take a bonus action) and dealing +1d6 damage is more than enough to bump it up to legendary. Yes, I still think that giving a legendary item to a first level character is fine. Now that we know that this is a legendary item, let's create a history to explain why it is so powerful. This is an item that wars would be fought over and could very well attract the attention of plane-hopping adventurers. As JonnyP71 said, 15th level PCs would jump at a chance to gain something like this. Its bond with nature suggests that it would be...

You can almost play Stargate using the old D6 system or Star Wars Saga. I've used the Buffy the Vampire Slayer RPG to run Stargate games with great success. Not sure class based hit points would work so well. And how would zats work, high DC or no save. Zats are pretty horribly inconsistent in the show. I can't recall a single instance of someone resisting one. And, the whole thing about stun/kill/disintegrate in 1/2/3 shots brings up a host of issues as far as how quickly the shots need to be taken, and how long the energy of a shot remains in the target. They would've been better off just giving it a stun and a lethal setting, like old-school phasers.

  • 01:05 AM - Yaarel quoted Zardnaar in post 4e Clone − help create it!
Fighter Role: Defender Power Source: Martial The 4e source is so flavorful. It is one of my favorite aspects of 4e. Identifying a class with a certain source works well. On the other hand, identifying a class with a role never worked well. The class felt too rigid and inflexible against personalization. Towards the end, 4e abandoned roles by having archetypes with different roles. I feel it is very useful to use ‘roles’ as keywords for a specific feature (feat, power, spell). Then a player who wants a certain feature immediately understands its ‘purpose’. For a feature, the role or purpose, can categorize more specifically: attack, defense, mobility, barrier, stealth, detection, assistance. (Here assistance is for powers that acquire an item or summon a creature, being somewhat multi-purposed.)

IDK if the HP as attrition mode a'la 3E-5E works that well. Hp, alone, as attrition mode never worked well - it's spell slots that were the critical resource from the beginning through 3e, and are, again, in 5e. 3e just made it obvious by letting you buy wands filled with 550 hps. ::shrug::

Depends on the clone, a few like OSRIC are fairly close to 1E, others like Castles and Crusades look like 3E play like 1E sorta. Some use fot/ref/will, C&C uses 6 saves. The B/X ones and OD&D ones seem more popular. Generally most try and be faithful to the original playstyle maybe add some things like ACKs. This.

Not really they're using the 5E engine and probably having different skills and new classes to match the 5E genre. IDK if the basic idea though (hit point based class game) is actually that good for the genre though. And things like zats. Is O'Neil a level 6 Soldier, 4 officer for example. Daniel an archaeologist/soldier, Samantha a scientist/soldier, T'ealc pure soldier. I see that too. 5e is not inflexible and a lot of games seems to have done a lot with it.

And at 5 level the barbarian also gets 2 attacks and can frenzy for a 3rd. The Zealot barbarian can just about equal the 3rd attack with Divine Fury. If they choose polearm master - it gets even better (the Berserker can't benefit from that as both use a bonus action). The problem (for frenzy) is the very high resource cost - I can't (of the top of my head) think of any class ability that imposes worse. The 6th level ability is extremely good and the 14th as well (10th level is a great ability in theory, but good luck having the charisma for it)- but frenzied rage is likely too high a resource cost. This doesn't mean that the Berserker is useless, or even under-powered - as a whole. Just that Exhaustion is one of the nastiest conditions in the game and seems overly punitive relative to any other class.

And at 5 level the barbarian also gets 2 attacks and can frenzy for a 3rd. Sorry, I edited out that last part because I realized I read your post wrong. My bad. But yes, they do. And so can a monk with martial arts or a fighter that is dual wielding. Where is their penalty? Where is their resource expenditure?
  • 04:53 PM - Hawk Diesel quoted Zardnaar in post Berserker Barbarians: Wait what?
You know the 3rd attack at low levels is very very good. Sure. I also know that it doesn't stay that way. By 5th level a fighter and monk are doing that same or more without risk of exhaustion. Are they using a Greatsword or Maul when they do it? No. But the damage difference is neglible compared to the fact that the barbarian must use a limited resource (rage) and take on a level of exhaustion for a privilege that the 5th level fighter and monk essentially get for free.

Gronks a moron for using frenzy 3 times. So... a berserker barbarian using frenzy is more taxing than a spell caster casting any spell above 3rd level? See, this is the thing that gets me. A berserker barbarian could literally frenzy themselves to death, yet a spell caster can cast spells non-stop round after round, and then cast cantrips indefinitely after running out, and there is no explicit exhaustion mechanic tied to that. A high level spellcaster could obliterate a small town with meteor swarm, and it is no more taxing than swinging a dagger. But a barbarian wants to swing that dagger one more time per round... that's the line! A paladin could smite on every single attack until they run out of spell slots, but no exhaustion mechanic there. No penalty for using their signature ability. Hell, a dual wielding fighter can eventually get 4 attacks a round, even a level 5 monk, but Moloch forbid a barbarian to get THREE attacks in a round!

You could get it down to three if you really wanted IMHO. To reduce to three abilities, would mean using Dexterity checks for library research, or alternatively using Intelligence for jumping and grappling. Besides, the 4e stat ‘Passive Perception’ is defacto a routine defense. 4e really has four defenses. If you are trying to "clone" 4E and not just create an entirely new game for yourself, it needs to be able to work with existing 4E material that people already have. The consolidation of abilities down to four is fully compatible with existing 4e material. For example, simply deleting Constitution and Wisdom works well for most (all?) monster stat blocks. Strength and Constitution tend to be near identical. And the elimination of Wisdom leaves its incongruent aspects of Intelligence and Charisma in place. The difference is, there is a one-to-one identity between the four abilities and the four defenses. The imbalance among the six ability scores is a perennial complaint. It can ...

I would treat full auto as an AoE, DC 8+ proficiency bonus+ dex modifer half damage on successful save. Base damage 3d8, burst fire mode -2 to hit 4d8 damage uses 3 shots. Zat's maybe make them a dex save, you fail and you're unconscious, 2nd hit dead, 3rd hit disintegration. Give them low ammo capacity and can't be bought, you have to raid the Gou'ald.Unfortunatrly, the specs you give for zat dont match the series. Looking at their scuffed and bloodied idea, I would try the following CORE mechanic: Exposed. Most "hits" by any weapon cause hp damage. If a character is "exposed" each weapon type has additional effects that apply. Exposed is a condition that equates to being open for the more serious effects of a "good hit" to apply. A character is considered exposed in cases like: The character is bloodied (below 50%hp) The hit is a crit. The character is surprised. For zat, the exposed effect eould be a con save with success meaning you get one turn before going to unconscious. Failure m...

...monsters aren't scary anymore unlike say a Wight in AD&D. That's true. The game has fewer feel-bad results now, but that means that you're not afraid that the monsters will make you feel bad.

Gronks a moron for using frenzy 3 times. Well that’s what you get when you dump Int

Gronks a moron for using frenzy 3 times.Gronk is a moron for picking berserker when much better options are available. Why would anyone want to play a subclass where you rarely get to use your signature ability?
  • 06:10 AM - Yaarel quoted Zardnaar in post 4e Clone − help create it!
OSR clones you dont get dex to damage, or dex to initiative. 3E,4E and 5E also went a bit over board on two handed weapons as well- 3E power attacj, 4E 1W, 2W etc benefit 1d12 and 2d6 weapons a lot and 5E GWM feat. Initiative probably belongs to ‘Sense’, whether Sense is part of Wisdom, part of Intelligence, or its own stand-alone ability. In any case, Sense is the ability to notice something coming, whence the ability to respond early for initiative.

That is because 4E and 5E added dex to damage. Remove that and give dex based stuff extra damage via sneak attack or multiple weaker attacks like the 5E monk or AD&D rate of fire on bows. When dex is a major save, initiative, major skill and melee and ranged to hit and damage that is what made it uber. 4E had to resort to gating stuff behind powers which didnt work so well. Drop rapiers down to d6, or find somehting else for dex to do like rapid strike, dual wielding, accuracy or something. I am ok with removing damage from finesse weapons. Note, in the eight ability setup: Strength − melee attack bonus, melee damage bonus Athletics − finesse attack bonus, grappling, Monk flurry attack Dexterity − missile attack bonus, Rogue sneak attack All three have different kinds of combat options. None are must-have.

The reason intelligence sucks is they don't assign anything to it in 5E and theres really only 1 class that can use it. Extra languages and skill points are an option perhaps a bonus back ground, non combat feat etc are other options. Said clone would use int or dex for dex saves I assume that is another buff to it. Have some class like Monk that uses dex/int instead of dex/wisdom. 5E has a glut of charisma based classes most of which are also some of the best in the game. Abilities should be useful regardless of class. Lore skills and languages are less satisfactory to make Intelligence worthwhile. Intelligence must include something frequently useful in combat. 4e made a good start at making Intelligence a more meaningful investment. It combines Intelligence with Dexterity for Reflex. But this combination still feels awkward. Intelligence still feels less important than Dexterity. And when Dexterity is a must-have, Intelligence gets dumped. At the very least, Intelligence would need to ...

Seems more like you want eple to design your loveletter over 4E. 8 ability scores for example is fairly pointless. We will see how people feel about having 8 ability scores. But there are many good reasons to have these 8. They are equally powerful to each other. And salient to describe well various kinds of creatures and abilities. Personally, in the traditional six, I find the fact that Dexterity is a super-stat while Intelligence is a dump-stat, to be frustrating. This fundamental imbalance wont happen with the eight. Anyway, feel free to change them if you wish. Maybe allow for some discussion first.
