Posting on behalf of Sphynx, who submitted his rolls and intentions in LINE chat. Sphynx throws another dart at the Nomad, nearly killing him! Attack roll: (18) hit. Sneak attack still applies, since opponent is still flat-footed. Damage: 4+4 (+1 PB Range) = 9 pts. total. The Nomad has taken 16 points of damage in total; he is CRITICALLY INJURED!

Nomad's AC: Normal: 14, Flat-footed: 13. Sphynx's attack roll: 19 (hits.) Damage: 2+4 (+1 PB Range) = 7 pts. total. The Nomad is significantly injured. Your dart flies true, despite not having enough distance to tumble. It strikes the nomad in the upper right shoulder, and sinks into the fleshy part. The Nomad lets out a surprised grunt, which is not loud enough to attract attention. As...

Although there aren't any convenient landmarks to use as cover to hide behind, it is a moot point, since there is no sentry at the mouth of the cave. Smiling, Sobec looks at Zyzzy again. "Alright, clever one. You're smarter than me, I know, but that also means you will find a way." Then, very very gently, Sobec affectionately pats her on the head with his massive paw. "Alright, let's move," he says more sternly as the vesk turns to the passageway.

You follow the animal handler about 150 yards to the southwest, and you can see that there is a corral area, with a crude, wooden fence, where 4 other horses (besides the 12 that he is leading) are kept. Something the normal Expertise would be able to accomplish, no need to nerf. For 2, that’s not how Arcana is supposed to work. Arcana is just what you know about magic. It has nothing to do with manipulating it in any capacity. A...

I don’t mean to talk down to you. But at the same time this entire thread is just another “I don’t know how to challenge powerful characters so here’s how I nerf them” thread that I see popping up all the time. You’re worried about a Rogue who can hide from anything come lvl eleven when a Sorcerer can cast Invisibility at lvl 5, or Greater Invisibility at lvl 9, and do anything the Rogue can do....

Didn’t read this all. Do you try to nerf the Paladin’s damage output when they use 2 Divine Smites after getting two Crits (Not impossible, my brothers Paladin has done it) in the same round against a fiend? That’s 40d8’s+10 if using a long sword. Anywhere from 50-250 damage. Do you nerf the Assassin’s double critical, which can do the same amount of damage as the Paladin in one hit as...

Um...I see a few things that is causing your problems. So first off, you’re adding complexity. That always causes problems. Second, a higher intelligence wouldn’t necessarily grant more skills. It could grant more proficiencies, but not necessarily skills. And there are character choices which grant more skills. If you wanna be a skill monkey, there are things to choose to do that. You...

...te the words. Surely he does not wish to have the same fate. Both of them resume their tasks, as Portis reaches out for a fountain and throws a bucket of water over the cart, beginning the mechanic and repetitive labor. "You were not free, you merely traded one master for many." Harfik notices a singular reaction from Portis as he says his farewells to the dead sand-fleas. Portis says nothing, but for a second Harfik meets an approving, suffering gaze. He almost feels as if Portis was far older than (s)he seems, and his words find a hidden truth within the servant's mind. It is just a moment, though, and Portis continues to work on the cart, trying to control the fires. ICOSA/THULWAR Soon after the horse's prowess, Icosa finishes his short flight, having a full view of the scene, the vanishing horse and the strange arrival. A sense of familiarity pervades both of them, though, given the presence of the defensive machine near the metallurgist. @Charwoman Gene @industrygothica @JustinCase @Greenmtn @hafrogman @Shayuri @Neurotic It's more that we got slightly divorced from turn order. Archon went back to do their attacks which he has skipped, and then didn't bother to update all the last two pages of damage as it was more than enough to kill her. [Precisely! Did you see the amount of damage you piled on her? :) It wasn't hand-waved, I assure you! But considering that I couldn't update every day on account of that appointment I mentioned earlier, I thought it'd be easier to let you guys roll and update any sorts of damage you might have taken. The outcome was pretty much set by that point. Also... Don't get used to it, mwahaha!]

...jumps from behind the cover, dragging Portis with him. "Fetch some water, boy...". The guide leader still holds fast to his crossbow, as if to ensure himself any means of fighting. Atir jumps to his feet, wide-eyed and vulnerable. "Don't hurt us! There was no way we could have known!" - he waves his hands as Yttrian approaches Dvalin. The fleeing dwarf struggles in vain against Lyllie's magic, and as he sees Yttrian closing in, a hostile and desperate look covers his face. "So, master Dvalin. Who exactly were you going to go see?" "Ya're getting nothing outta me..." - he grunts as he pulls and pushes, trying to break free. Caliban runs towards the animals and starts an attempt to calm them down. "Sorry to ask..." - he looks at Kethra, for the first time being respectful - '... but shouldn't someone catch that horse? If anyone waits down..." - he points out towards the path just threaded by the horse that Dvalin mounted. Greenmtn Neurotic industrygothica hafrogman Charwoman Gene JustinCase Shayuri

...as a solitary climb for the metallurgist. The sage made his way upwards without seeing a single soul, having only the sounds of nature to keep him company. As he went higher and higher, an ominous, unending silence settled in. Even beasts seemed to be weary of these cursed vistas. The last slopes were the most tiresome, but his tardiness demanded extraordinary effort, and he knew it. As he reached high, almost at the first camping spot, Thulwar heard the clamour of steel and magic. A battle! His faster pace drove him towards the road leading up, only to place him in the way of danger! The first thing Thulwar meets is a horse, running down his path uncontrolled and without a rider! Thulwar has to be quick if he is to escape the trampling hooves of the frightened beast! [Welcome to the game! As a gift, I give you a test! Try to dodge the horse with dexterity or acrobatics! :p Also, I'm reviewing the items right now!] @Greenmtn @Neurotic @industrygothica @hafrogman @Charwoman Gene @JustinCase @Shayuri

ATTACK: +7/+3 DMG: sling (1d4+4); thrown weapons (1d4+1) AC: 16 HP: 28/1 SPECIAL: smoke bombs, poison cloud, poisoned weapons, flash bombs, among others. Zanga bleeds, but he's still lucid. He keeps fighting, his rage incresing step by step. Isobel continues to dodge and calculate her moves, despite her bruises. Behind, the weakened Aspen throws down a second salve of bombs. These, though, are heavier, and aimed at the area right in front of her. A second cloud rises, and her silhouette can be vaguely seen running from the battlefield and towards the road! As for Atir, he manages to drag himself away from the fires that gradually engulf the cart, his hands empty, unarmed. On the other side, Dvalin manages to obtain control of his horse, conducting him a few steps further into the road, and readying himself to galop down! Atir falls back as he tries to drag himself away from both cart and horse, as the fires grow and the beast leaps in fear! MAP UPDATED https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...juE/edit#gid=0 ROUND 2 As dust and smoke begins to rise, the barbarians attack once more! Isobel calculates her steps and moves against Harfik once more, her blade risen for a vertical strike, followed by an attempt against his guts. The monk dances around the blade with ease as the barbarian grunts, dissatisfied. At the same time, her brother advances once more against Aanzu, disdain and wrath in his eyes. His strikes are filled with rage and devoid of strategy. As the barbarian thrusts with the massive blade, Aanzu foresees his moves and sidesteps elegantly, intensifying Zanga’s wrath! @hafrogman @Greenmtn @industrygothica @Charwoman Gene @JustinCase @Shayuri

If not, give me another shout and we'll reposition Zanga as needed!] Eilúvit tries to complete her quick chant, but gets shot down by Yttrian's attack! On the opposing side, Aspen runs off of her cover, thrusting forward as she throws a bunch of small spheres towards Yttrian! She twists her body to increase the distance, and ends up missing her target, hitting Isobel instead! The spheres explode against Isobel's back, creating a thick, heavy white cloud that spreads around in a matter of seconds. Isobel spins around, confused and stunned by the shock! Dvalin still struggles against his mount, unable to move. As for the other servants, they follow Yttrian's advice and try to find cover. The others, still aware of the heroes’ presence, begin to spread around, their weapons still within reach, pretending to focus on tasks left undone by Atir. Everyone realizes that they still maintain a semblance of formation, though, with the sand fleas up front and the elves at the back. Should anything happen, they might not be taken by surprise. Still, there is something peculiar about Aspen’s behavior. She seems more focused to remain close to bunches of trees, and as she watches her adversaries she also studies the area. Oddly enough, she decides to gather sticks to kindle a fire, something already done by Atir, as the observant party can see. Kethra particularly understands such manners. Yttrian identifies several spots that might represent danger, although none of them would be reachable by this side of the trail. The mercenaries would have to climb in order to reach such heights, and there are no signs of recent activity at the stone walls – no piton markings, no nails, no rock slides. The only other option would be to find a side path towards the top of the rocks, up beyond the pass. The elf is confident he’ll be able to find access to the higher grounds as soon as the party begins its’ journey. [Very elegant way out of it, and very nice characterization! The other servants stand still, apprehensive and incapable of helping in a potential confrontation. Portis seems to wait for Yttrian’s command, in case any orders should be issued. Suddenly, the group is met with its first grave decision: if the heroes leave now, the Fairwalkers might attack the servants, seizing the camp and creating even more havoc in the future. If they attack, this might create an opportunity for the Merchants guild, or the Fairwalkers, to accuse the Duke of aggression, since the heroes are his associates (a most welcoming outcome, since both merchants and Fairwalkers openly question the Duke’s ability to rule). Lastly, if they wait, they might be just postponing the inevitable and, even worse, they might invite third parties to intervene in this conflict. Her hand leaps out all of a sudden, tossing a glimmering object to Aanzu. “Mordayne”. She smiles, turns back and disappears amidst the foliage. In his hands, Aanzu holds a bracelet. Despite the damage it withstood through the passage of time, it still holds its’ original beauty, just like in the day he gave it to Ravenblade… industrygothica Charwoman Gene hafrogman JustinCase Shayuri Greenmtn

Your help, obviously.” Without waiting for an answer, she continues. It’s odd to see such articulation and delicateness on a commoner, Aanzu notices. Her attitude does not suggest someone inclined to wait, as well. “Within the foggy region that you’ll see up above, there is a complex of caves. They are ruled by a tribal group, mortal enemies of the thieves that inhabit these mountains – as well as others. Deep within their lair, these creatures protect an old idol. Take your group, destroy it, and bring me proof. If you do so, I will tell you what you want to know.” “And if you have trouble convincing them…” – she finishes – “… tell them they might uncover the secret paths to the Sanctum by doing this. It befits you for accepting that collar of yours.” – she provokes Harfik deliberately. EVERYONE The dwarves finish unloading on their own right before setting up their own camp. The area is big enough to accommodate everyone, leaving generous space between the improvised settlements. Oddly enough, they go out of their ways to ignore the Fairwalkers’ attitudes towards the party, almost as if they weren’t their employers at all. ... Eilúvit then turns to Lyllie. “You are the sage of Glimmerdale, are you not?” – she smiles, as if forgetting the words uttered just a moment ago. Her manners are somewhat machinic and distant, matching the fading blue of her eyes. “I have heard a lot of your explorations. In fact, we’ve heard a lot about all of you.” – she smiles a pleasant, yet distant, smile. The tanned warriors move forward now, after throwing pelts and bedrolls on the floor. Prosper measures them both and remains silent, a distrustful look under his thick brows. The warriors measure Kethra and Harfik, both with mocking smiles upon their faces, and then proceed to inspect the rest of the camp, almost as if everything there belonged to them. The last member of the Fairwalker party remains behind, studying both Icosa and Yttrian from afar. Despite the peaceful words, there’s tension in the air, as if the mercenaries were meditating on possibilities. @Greenmtn @Shayuri @industrygothica @Charwoman Gene @hafrogman @JustinCase

The bastards have eyes everywhere, and most likely caught wind of the expedition, sensing an opportunity to profit from it. She also knows they do not buy cheap mercenaries. Whoever the riders are, they were no amateurs, especially considering the patterned indigo coats. Such is the symbol for the Fairwalkers, the fighter’s guild of Wallis. It was not uncommon for a fairwalker to intrude in City Guard affairs, and there is no love between the two groups. Despite all this, Fairwalkers tend to respect guardsmen authority, as every citizen with a minimum of common sense. [The test DID help! From then on, moving forward leads to the White Hollows. Lots of craters to fall in, and lots of white fog as well. Can see nothing four steps from your nose, trust me.” – Portis continues, keeping a low head and thickening the voice as much as possible. “To the other side… The lake.” – Yttrian quickly understands the reference, building a mental plane where all the maps fit together. He could guide the others easily, from now on. “And… this is as much as I know. You…” – Portis risks at last – “…you know quite a lot, to dig these maps and come with all this. Caerth whistles, hoping that Screech the owl knows whether the area is truly clear, and secretly hoping that its presence will scare away the crow. The black bird was just another animal, but under the circumstances the druid would rather have no crows around. Screech comes when called and, indeed, when he appears the crow makes a hasty retreat. Once in the grotto, the bird hoots when it sees the young scrag and when the water troll dives into the water, Screech flaps over to the boat and lands on the bow. It hoots again and flaps his wings. Caerth can feel that Screech is nervous about something and it's not the scrag. The bird wings back to Caerth's arm and climbs up onto his shoulder. The bird is on high alert. Aureus makes her way back from wence they came, all the while in deep conversation with Cruel Justice. "What do you remember of your previous wielder and how did you end up stuck in a rock? What do you know of Kang, or perhaps you'd like to tell me yourself?" directing th...

Phar quirks an eyebrow at the comment on cultists, but decides that the wererat has enough of their goods for one day. "I believe it is time to move on once more." "Agreed," Lorien says. "Cultists?" Caerth mumbles, but does not press the issue. He would much rather they move on, and nods his agreement to Phar's comment. The half-orc turns to leave the room. Quinn backs out, not fully trusting the rat. The wererat shifts to his rat form and disappears into the small corridor near the back of the cavern. The way back through to the stone bridge across the chasm is uneventful, although the group is on high alert for these 'cultists' that Hornauer referred to. Could he have been baiting the heroes? There is no time to wonder about that now. Crossing the cavern, there is a fluttering of bat wings from somewhere. Lorien tense and then says, "Gods, we have to get out of here." No bats attack and group heads back through the door and into the old tower of Gurnard's Head. The group heads back ...

Bravec rose and stretched. He could feel the city starting to stir around him with the coming of a new day and that always filled him with restless energy. He picked up a pine cone and whistled at squeaks. He gave the cone an underhanded toss and the little wagon rolled eagerly down the hill just in time to get under the falling cone catching it deftly and trundling back to the tall man with the stylish beard and rakish hat. He scooped up the cone once more and threw even harder, but the surprisingly quick little wagon managed to reach it if just barely. The little wagon returned once more and Bravec grinned and tucked the cone into a pouch for another time. He knew of a lass with a food stall on sundered road who just might be charmed out of a meat pie this morning to break his fast. He adjusted his sword belt and tilted his hat at a jaunty angle before taking up the handle of the little wagon and strolling toward the edge of the park. Seeing the wagon roll about on its own tended to attract ...

Phar speaks to Aureus as well, hoping the Wererat will no understand. "The rat wants the jewels as well as your cloak or my ring for the key and the blade. The cloak is less valuable than the ring. I would gladly give up any share of treasure and reward to help you replace it if you want to give it. If you feel you cannot I will give up my ring." He shrugs, "We could try and take both by force, but time grows short and the outcome less certain. If we can complete our quest in moments and be away that would be worth much to us I think." "I agree wholeheartedly," Lorien adds in Elven. "With the key and Lord Pendour's body, we have what we came for." Quin's Chain remains put away and he does his best to not show impatience. Lorien notes Quinn's discomfort and gives the big human a knowing nod before handing the jewels to Aureus and then stepping off to the side to let the negotiations finish. Aureus removes her cloak and takes the bag of jewels. She looks at the rat and says, "I believe...

Alright, my dwarven wild sorcerer has the soldier background. I figure he was (training to be) an officer in a dwarven army somewhere, until his random magical outburst got him and quite a few soldiers into trouble, leading to his departure from the military. Is there a nearby dwarven hold that might be suitable? I think a wiki link would indeed be helpful. :) There is actually one that is within Nirmathas borders, though they are neutral and not aligned with Nirmathas. Oleander takes a deep breath and then one last glance about the room before his gaze returns to the few items on the table. The scimitar was reported to have been in his family for generations, the edges of the oleander branch on the pommel, his name-sake, worn down by the hands of its wielders, but family was now gone, only he remained. The bracers had been fitted for his wrists. They seemed plain and unadorned. He had spent a small fortune on them, but they were imbued with the magical ability to offer the protection of armor he did not wear. Six small vials were tucked in the tiny pouches on the baldric sheath for the scimitar. As he exhaled that breath, his decision was made. He clipped the bracers to his forearms and slung the baldric into place, checking his pocket subconsciously for his sling. He rarely used the door to the fourth floor room. This day would prove no different for it was time and he did not intend to return. He climbed out the window and up to the roof, walking away c...

"Um, we really don't want to hurt anyone, but we have reason to believe that a key we are bound to secure has come this way. If you can help us acquire the key we might even be able to offer some assistance to your servants." Phar slips his bow back into the quiver to add emphasis to his words. Realizing he is not the best diplomat in the group he shoots an imploring glance at Lorien. Lorien knows that look. He wishes he knew about who or what he was dealing with, but he has an idea that this individual's connection to the rats is more than just master and servant. Seeing the dire bats unwilling to fight on, the snake that is Caerth looks up to the others, clearly wanting to speak but unable to do so. Instead, the serpent slithers to where the dire rats are still struggling to get out of the web spell, and starts hissing threateningly. While the two dire rats struggle in vain to escape the web spell the rodents are not cowed by Caerth's hissing. Instead, it makes the trapped rat struggle more and squeal in anger. The other rat bristles its back up and tries to move towards Caerth, but the web continues to hold the dire rat back. "Do not hurt any more of my servants, druid!" A squeaky voice rings out from somewhere deep in the narrow corridor. "Or I shall set the rest of my colony against you and the others. Now go away!"

Pi doesn't need to come from Cauldron. Is there a suitable city near the Jagged Peaks? I think he wouldn't let himself known to the city guards; doing good is its own reward, he'd say. There are several cities near the Jagged Peaks. On the coast there is the capital city of Theocracy of Thallin, Fruen, which was once a place for heroes but the new Mad King of Thallin has turned it and the country into a bastion for villainy. (The Sword Gods are openly worshiped there.) There is also the city of Rivenwood, which is on the border of Thallin. There is more freedom in that city, but the Fury of the Dragon do have their spies on its streets. There are several thieves' guilds in Thallin but most pale in comparison compared to the guild of assassins, that is allowed to operate with impunity in dark kingdom, called Vespin's Hand. That guild doesn't let members leave, however, and it isn't found in Caludron. (However, it is whispered that the Hand has a foothold in Mor's End.) Vespin is a decease S...

I added Brother Pi to the RG. Just one question, though: Is it alright if my signature weapon (a +1 short sword) is actually hidden within the staff of a broom? So in case of fighting, he can pull out the blade from the broom "scabbard"? That's fine. And a good place for Brother Pi to 'work' would be a place called the Hall of Bast. It is a memorial near The Temple of the Cat and honors those Bastites who died helping protect the city from the Cagewrights. (It's also very museum-like.) Another good option would be for him to work in one of the local inns. There is the Magma Inn in the southern part of the city on the eastern edge of the Groves of the Bloodsun. Another major workplace would be the Gateway Inn, which stands just south of The Stone Gate (the northern gate into the city). Also, I'm hoping that incorporating your Hassan PC the way I did is okay. It's good. Note, however, that Jagged Peaks are some distance from the Kul Moren Mountains. And I'll roll stats later today (on my phone now, which makes using code somewhat inconvenient). No rush. I'm still formulating how the game is going to go.
