Brother Pelegon nods, his attention quickly fading now that the bound lizardfolk’s life is no longer threatened. ”So what’s the plan, dragonlady?” he addresses Surina, apparently considering her to be something of a leader to this group.

Growing fond of his “softer” companions Sobec found himself fathering over them despite his stoic appearance to the outside world. Then one fateful day while on a...

About Tellerian Hawke
Introduction:
Die Hard 3.0 / 3.5 Player
About Me:
I started playing D&D during the Thanksgiving holidays of 1979, using other people's books. My parents bought me the AD&D Player's Handbook in Christmas of 1980. Then, I got my first D&D Basic Set (the Tom Moldvay red cover, with Erol Otus artwork) in August of 1981. Ah, humble beginnings, and fond memories. My first DM was my dad, and bless his heart, he had no clue about where to start. Our first adventures were awkward, to say the least.

If you are curious as to the whole story about my D&D origins, I wrote a memoir about it on my blog:
https://overthetopepicroleplaying.wordpress.com/2015/08/23/memoirs-part-one-how-i-started-playing-dungeons-dragons/

1979 was 5th grade for me. By the time I was in 8th grade, I was playing 1st Ed AD&D, which I stuck with all through high school. (I graduated in 1987.)

In the early 90's I switched to Second Edition, and later to 2nd Ed Skills & Powers, and then I even became a play-tester for 3rd Edition, which was an experience that I must say really endeared me to that particular edition of the game.

I have also written a skeletal framework for my own RPG, although it has never gotten to the playtest stage. I might revisit it one day soon, but in the meantime, I have a lot of other irons in the creative fire. I have an unfinished novel to think about, as well as a non-fiction book I'm writing that covers my family's genealogical record.

I'm a librarian by profession; I hold a master's degree in English, and a master's degree in Library Science, which, in librarian-speak, makes me a subject specialist. I'm what's known as a "Humanities Librarian." As such, I also have a list of ideas for academic papers that I plan to write, and since these are peer-reviewed items that concern the betterment of my career, they form one of the principal reasons why my novel and game system are still languishing on the shelf.

My longest running campaign ("The Fearless Five") was from 1999 - 2005, and it ended up going into epic levels. I pretty much quit running it when I got married, because at that point, my life became super-busy because of my transition from bachelor-with-lots-of-free-time, to husband / head of household / homeowner, and shortly thereafter, father-of-two. That's the main reason I never played 3.5; I had purchased all of the core 3.5 books, and some of the supplements, intending to eventually "switch over"; but a whirlwind romance, and subsequent marriage, cut those plans short. Thus, when I quit playing in 2005, despite having the 3.5 books, all of my knowledge and expertise was still grounded in the 3.0 material.

In July of 2014, at a family reunion, two of my cousins (who had been part of the Fearless Five campaign) expressed a desire to play again, albeit via the internet, using Play-By-Post. So, I made a private, Google Site webpage, scanned the bulk of my old notes, house rules, maps, and character sheets into PDF format, and put it all on the web. I am still running the Fearless Five PbP on that site, although I have plans to move it here, to ENWorld, in the very near future. Since the PbP began, I have slowly been adapting my campaign to the 3.5 rules set, although I must say, I don't agree with some of the changes they've made. So I guess you could say that I am running a 3.0 / 3.5 hybrid. (3.25?)

I came to this website because I wanted to refresh my knowledge, and have someplace to discuss my hobby with others. I was on ENWorld way back when, during the Eric Noah era, and during the first years of Morrus' stewardship also. I used to frequent the site, because I loved keeping up with Blackdirge's custom monsters. At any rate, I enjoyed the site back then, and it stayed with me in my memory, so I found it again, and here I am.

The last two things that I can think to tell you about me, with regard to this mutual hobby of ours, is that I am now, and always will be, a die-hard Greyhawker, and that I like to use Lego minifigs as miniatures, because there's no painting involved, and the figures can be readily modified. If you'd like to see what that looks like, click on the link below.

Tor adds, "We should concentrate our harassment / conversion efforts on the water search parties. Also, is there any way to taint the water in the same manner that we did with the food?" Indigo gives a sharp look at Torvald. "What!? If we poison a natural water supply, we effect everything that uses the water, plants, animals, everything, not just the soldiers." Sheldon lays a hand on her shoulder. "I do not think that is what he meant. Rather than continue to harm these soldiers, it is my understanding that the plan is to convert their loyalty. My question was how do we go about this." @Tellerian Hawke If you are proposing that the collected water supplies be effected, his understanding of the talent to manipulate Way lines would prevent him from making an area of effect proposal.

... doubt if you could ever affect him. He wanted to stake you all out in the desert. Let the Burning Sun choose you fate, but as soon as I sensed that you were all Benders, I knew that this would not do." Molo dismisses the three remaining marshals and begins to drag Tor and Vadin toward Sheldon and Indigo. "In order to change an entire cultural system, I need a good demonstration; therefor, I cannot simply kill you, out right. I do not want panic on my hands, for anarchy is pointless. I want to enslave the labor. I want the power. I am well aware that the Burning Sun would have no consequence on your fate. The Maelstrom on the other hand... Even if you regain consciousness before you are sucked into the depth of the sea, you will have no recourse. The Maelstrom will eat you anyway. Goodbye children." Sannit loses consciousness. As before, if he can knock his opponent down, he will follow up with a quick sword stab to the abdomen. As Tor is charging toward the original Da'Roneh formation, his intended target succumbs to blindness, but closer is another one of the Headhunters who seems just a deserving of a shield bash. After brief discussion, posting for @Tellerian Hawke who is busy with RL. When Taylar thumps the water it creates a concussive wave that travels out from his hands toward the muddy patch of water, as the patch continues to drift downstream. Also, it produces a very interesting sound. So interesting that Taylar thumps a second time as Vittero joins him to perform the same task for himself. Sadly, no fish or reptiles surface after the intrusion. After observing the results of Taylar's and Vittero's acts upon the water, Maka nods his head, confirming his suspicion. He conveys to the crew that the muddied patch of water is due to some earlier activity upstream. It could be a herd of game animals or people. Also, he adds that he thinks the crew should move on and finish their task at hand and rid themselves of the two horses before pursuing any further investigation. He would hate for the crew to lose the horses after the effort made to retrieve the stolen one.

Sannit will move quickly to secure the prisoners. If no Seeker objects he will ask for their surrender and to forsake their allegiance to Asylim. Those that refuse are killed, but those that agree are given food, water and medicine. The remaining hoplites defer to the remaining centurion, who speaks for them all. He disarms himself and commands his remaining soldiers to do the same. They are surprised and grateful for the offer of food and aid. San-Bolo have the freed soldiers help drag the bodies of the Asylim army into the desert to let the elements reclaim them... The converted soldiers readily obey their assigned task. Those who survived the battle stare but say nothing. The centurion commands the prisoners to sit. He remains standing. San-Bolo greet Clavo and the rest of the Southroad Fair army... Once the dead of the army is cleared away and all the equipment from the army collected, Sannit will ask for volunteers from the new recruits to join (Tor's father) on the coast to help build the n...

Taylar will take a small rock or stick, throw it around one side of the tree as a diversion and charge around the other. He will target one of the faethrin closest to his hiding spot, keeping his shield up to protect from close bow attacks, and swing with his sword.Rolls: Distract (Mercantile): 25 + 65(d100) = 90; Attack: 94, 33 Taylar looks at hi feet and retrieves a pine cone core, deposited there from high above by some tree rodent who pilfered its seeds. With his back to a tree, he pivots to his right to toss the cone and come face-to-face with an enemy only a pace away. The Faethrin still starts, having not perceived Taylar's presence so close to him. Taylar forsakes the feint and pivots back to his left drawing his harnin shortsword as he moves from cover on the opposite side of the tree. Another Faethrin on that side is equally distant as the other, requiring Taylar to take a step forward as he swings, his enemy does not react quickly enough to fire first. All characters receive 10 DP. Turtle receives 5 DP. Sannit says, "Who will go with me to address the rest of this army?..." Merin says, "I will go with you. I will make a spectacular example of those soldiers who choose to defy us." Sheldon quips, "Spectacular pin cushion. There are still 50 archers. While 10 at a time was of no consequence to us, we will likely take some harm from that number." Vadin aggrees to accompany Sannit. " I will go as well. If they refuse, my sword will be ready for them." Turtle will help keep an eye on the new recruits, but will only do 'bear' things around them, no tricks or playing games. At first light the next day, when much more reasonable to approach than the previous evening, Sannit, Merin, and Vadin can see that the army is breaking camp and preparing to move forward. Bolo and Torvald maintain cover on the right flank, since Turtle is much farther to right with the converted soldiers. Sheldon and Indigo move forward along the left flank, under the protection ...

Tellerian shouts, "Fly! Fly, you two! I'll cover your retreat!" Sphynx takes a step to his right focusing on Hawke's over-grown foe. "Not in the face of the Nine Hells, you Lummox." Having his one magical trick left of his proverbial sleeve, Sphynx rolls his right hand and forearm in almost the same manner has when he called forth the small shards of magical energy, but his words are different. A beam of colored light shoots from his hand into the Ogre. "HOW DOES THAT FEEL, BUBBA?" 5' adjustment straight up toward the cave exit on the map. cast Ray of Enfeeblement: (d6 + 1/2L) = 1d6+2 = 5

Merin replies, "Your options are three-fold..." The soldiers listen to the Amiradthan but no response or affirmation seems warranted. Sannit relaxes his stance and replies, "The first thing you must do is submit to our authority and abandon whatever oaths you have sworn before." The hoplite commander seems somewhat confused. "We have sworn no oaths. We chose to be soldiers because the privileges and pay are better than those of the pickers or construction workers, although the danger is greater. Each soldier must weigh the option of his own aptitude. Those who fail to do this, die quickly." "We will not ask you to fight against your former comrades..." After Indigo dispatches the dissenter, Bolo steps back and gets a better position in case she has to shoot next time. The Seekers chaperone the converted soldiers and move northward to the next pre-placed water station. Turtle comes from hiding to meet everyone, causing even more stir of amazement with the fledgling Ansylins. The Windrunners are sen...

  • 04:25 PM - Mort quoted Tellerian Hawke in post Quick Question About Two-Weapon Fighting
If you are a 3rd level character (Barb 1 / Ranger 1 / Fighter 1) and you've got Two-Weapon Fighting, and you're using a light weapon in your off hand: Do you ALWAYS get that extra, off-hand attack, even if you move more than 1 square? i.e., a character using two weapons will always have at least 2 attacks per round? Or am I missing something?Usually, yes you would. You get the second attack as long as: 1. You still get an action, with regular movement, you still get to take an action; and 2. Youv haven't done anything that already took up your bonus action (for example if you cast Hunter's Mark a bonus action spell, when you get spells, you can't also attack as a bonus action).

All characters receive 10 DP. Taylar intends to sneak to a large pine and hide in the shadow, keeping his sword and shield up in case any of the Faethrin fire at him. Once he is in position, he will manipulate Way to darken the shadows around him.Roll: 84 Taylar moves less than the distance of one pace toward the left side of the road, pressing his left shoulder to the trunk of a suitable pine. Raven Elk, feeling that if he moved right after Taylar it would draw too much attention, simply crouches where he is near the wagon and the pack animals. Noticing how the others are manipulating Way to blend with the natural shadows of the wood, Raven Elk does the same. Maka, kneeling next to the wagon alongside Adi, manipulates Way to darken the shadows around him, as he takes careful aim. GM NOTE: All characters and companions receive 10 DP. One of the archers interjects, loudly, "You have destroyed our water and our food. You will have us wander this burning sand until we die, horribly. We are 10 hoplites and 10 archers. You are a rag-tag bunch with 7 members. You could not survive 10 archers while defending against 10 spears. We can take you, now, and march on to victory! Come on soldiers!" Tor laughs amiably at the archer, "We can just as easily..." At these aggressive words Sannit intends to take a defensive stance with his spear and Bolo intends to nock an arrow to her bow and point it at the archer that spoke. If the group makes any threatening moves she will release... Sannit: Negotiate roll: 50, Bolo: Action roll: 83 Vadin readies to defend from an attack... Maka kneels in place, and motions for the others to do the same. In a quiet voice, he says... Vittero does not kneel. He eases to the right side of the path planning to conceal himself within the shadows, his bow is at ready. Adisakti follows Maka's lead, using the wagon as cover. Taylar makes an effort to stay out of sight, but his body language shows his desire to confront these Faethrins... Raven Elk stays with Taylar... The Faethrins move in a nondescript line across the path and very quietly back into the trees. They continue to weave away to the left of the party's facing, edging ever closer as they go. One of the donkeys suddenly whinnies, nervously. The two closest of the others immediately take aim through the trees but do not fire. They can apparently see the, seemingly, unattended donkeys and wagon. They speak a few quick, quiet words in an unfamiliar language and then begin to fan out, approaching the wagon cautiously. They are currently at a distance of about 50 paces, moving closer...

Merin smiles warmly and says, "... Listen carefully... We in Southroad Fair are simple folk... You will be welcomed in Southroad Fair. But the downside of this is, if you do choose to side with us, you will likely face some of your friends who disagreed with you on the battlefield. It is a choice that must be carefully weighed." Sannit says, "We are offering what we want for ourselves, lives without tyranny. My brother Seeker has told you of Southroad Fair as an option, but there are other places to settle if you wish. Beyond Southroad Fair is Boga City... a friendly Mhytre city... a port for our town on the sea shore... These are your choices, for as you said if you return to Asylim you will die, and we are telling you that if you attack Southroad Fair, you will die." The two squad commanders speak with each other quietly for a few seconds, then the man addresses the party. "'Brother Seeker' as in the Southroad Seekers? Did we hear you correctly?" Maka seems thoughtful for several moments before speaking, "... We should move on, and try to find out more about the one they call Bishop Phillipe..." Taylar says, "We should return to Outpost and check on things there. Perhaps our town priest has more information about this malevolent group and their doings." The Outliers take their newly acquired wagon and pair of donkeys to pull it and begin following the mildly winding path at a leisurely pace. No one is specifically searching for danger or game, but the natural attentiveness of the group misses little activity. Only one day into the trip, the party is ambushed by a gang of assassin spiders. Though formidable to the average traveler and to common game, they pose no real threat and 8 of them are killed before the...

Taii Dan adds, "Our Chieftain has spoken, but if you have questions, you can ask me. It is my job to provide counsel to those who are seeking enlightenment. I don't offer this counsel to just anyone, but the Chieftain has shown you favor, therefore, I shall do likewise. Is there anything you'd like to ask me?" Seeing the others without a plan, and considering it was his misfortune to be dragged into this grand errand, Respen turns to Taii Dan and speaks, "Indeed, we would be well-served and pleased to take up Chieftain Tokwan and Taii Dan on their offers of both assistance and counsel. The counsel first, if you are so inclined, as it will bear on our need of pack animals, rations, and the like. What's between this encampment and Khubsheth the Sphinx, in the way of physical or magical barriers? What kind of encounters might we expect between here and there?" Hawke whispers, "I don't like this. I hear the noises as well, and it sounds like there are many active Goblins. There's likely to be a patrol soon. We could probably mop the floor with the little buggers, as long as we can find a defensible position. But we should be extremely careful, because there's always the possibility of getting overrun." Nimbar nods, whispering, "Agreed. I think it's time for spells." Sphynx confiscates the rations, the coins, and the javelins. He deposits the food and coins in appropriate locations about his body. He carries all of the javelins in his left hand. He nods toward Nimbar and whispers. "Good idea." He then casts Mage Armor on himself. He looks at Hawke to continue the thought process. "We will need a light source to continue farther in. That is easy, but I do not care for the idea of being pinned in the middle of two forces. We can make a little more noise and ambush whoever comes to investigate; otherwise, I am for moving into the left. At this point, I...

All characters and companions receive 10 developmental points. Tor replies. "I certainly did NOT mean the water source. I was talking about the waterskins. Nor was I suggesting poison; I simply meant fouling the water enough to make it non-palatable. The idea that I am advancing is to lower morale, without doing physical harm, in order to make the soldiers more succeptible to persuasion." Indigo makes a gesture of being appeased and shifts it to one of diversion, then responds to Tor in her usual calm manner and rich alto voice. "You are basically splitting hairs. Whether the water is altered enough to kill or sicken, it is still being poisoned. Not only is there some variance in the toxicity we can cause, there will be some difference in the result based on the natural health of each person who drinks it... But this is all just vocabulary. Anyway, I can only effect one skin at a time and I would have to be close to get it done. Bolo is more proficient than I, but this is not an accomplishable task a...
