Smiling, Sobec looks at Zyzzy again. "Alright, clever one. You're smarter than me, I know, but that also means you will find a way." Then, very very gently, Sobec affectionately pats her on the head with his massive paw. "Alright, let's move," he says more sternly as the vesk turns to the passageway.

He looks at Zyzzy, before adding, "Maybe these bandits will leave some valuables around for us to trade for credits. Or someone may want to have them returned to whatever hole they crawled out of and is willing to pay us for the effort....

You follow the animal handler about 150 yards to the southwest, and you can see that there is a corral area, with a crude, wooden fence, where 4 other horses (besides the 12 that he is leading) are kept. The handler is very tall and stout; he wears simple, hide armor, and carries a large, one-handed club, as well as two, short javelins in a quick-draw rig on his back. DM INSTRUCTIONS: Ok,...

We can use our previously discovered hideout for staging."

Trollick scratches his beard and false starts a few times before continuing to speak. "That Towers has to be one sick chicky. As Tam moves the last letter into place, the door shimmers a bright blue, and then disappears! As it does so, the whole party feels a wave of warm energy wash over them--obviously the expected spell effect--and all of you can feel the effect attempting to enter your mind. AT THIS POINT, you all have two choices: 1. Resist the spell effect. If you desire to do so, roll a Willpower save, DC...

Well, that's a very good logic. And I was about to counter that by saying I can still play my retainer, but then there are only two retainers in the game (so far?) so that doesn't fly. I'm good either way, I just like having clarity. Thanks!

Releasing his weapon, which reshapes into a mote of starlight and starts orbiting around the vesk once more, Sobec walks up to said woman and binds her wrists behind her back. Dropping out of photon attunement.

About Tellerian Hawke
Introduction:
Die Hard 3.0 / 3.5 Player
About Me:
I started playing D&D during the Thanksgiving holidays of 1979, using other people's books. My parents bought me the AD&D Player's Handbook in Christmas of 1980. Then, I got my first D&D Basic Set (the Tom Moldvay red cover, with Erol Otus artwork) in August of 1981. Ah, humble beginnings, and fond memories. My first DM was my dad, and bless his heart, he had no clue about where to start. Our first adventures were awkward, to say the least.

If you are curious as to the whole story about my D&D origins, I wrote a memoir about it on my blog:
https://overthetopepicroleplaying.wordpress.com/2015/08/23/memoirs-part-one-how-i-started-playing-dungeons-dragons/

1979 was 5th grade for me. By the time I was in 8th grade, I was playing 1st Ed AD&D, which I stuck with all through high school. (I graduated in 1987.)

In the early 90's I switched to Second Edition, and later to 2nd Ed Skills & Powers, and then I even became a play-tester for 3rd Edition, which was an experience that I must say really endeared me to that particular edition of the game.

I have also written a skeletal framework for my own RPG, although it has never gotten to the playtest stage. I might revisit it one day soon, but in the meantime, I have a lot of other irons in the creative fire. I have an unfinished novel to think about, as well as a non-fiction book I'm writing that covers my family's genealogical record.

I'm a librarian by profession; I hold a master's degree in English, and a master's degree in Library Science, which, in librarian-speak, makes me a subject specialist. I'm what's known as a "Humanities Librarian." As such, I also have a list of ideas for academic papers that I plan to write, and since these are peer-reviewed items that concern the betterment of my career, they form one of the principal reasons why my novel and game system are still languishing on the shelf.

My longest running campaign ("The Fearless Five") was from 1999 - 2005, and it ended up going into epic levels. I pretty much quit running it when I got married, because at that point, my life became super-busy because of my transition from bachelor-with-lots-of-free-time, to husband / head of household / homeowner, and shortly thereafter, father-of-two. That's the main reason I never played 3.5; I had purchased all of the core 3.5 books, and some of the supplements, intending to eventually "switch over"; but a whirlwind romance, and subsequent marriage, cut those plans short. Thus, when I quit playing in 2005, despite having the 3.5 books, all of my knowledge and expertise was still grounded in the 3.0 material.

In July of 2014, at a family reunion, two of my cousins (who had been part of the Fearless Five campaign) expressed a desire to play again, albeit via the internet, using Play-By-Post. So, I made a private, Google Site webpage, scanned the bulk of my old notes, house rules, maps, and character sheets into PDF format, and put it all on the web. I am still running the Fearless Five PbP on that site, although I have plans to move it here, to ENWorld, in the very near future. Since the PbP began, I have slowly been adapting my campaign to the 3.5 rules set, although I must say, I don't agree with some of the changes they've made. So I guess you could say that I am running a 3.0 / 3.5 hybrid. (3.25?)

I came to this website because I wanted to refresh my knowledge, and have someplace to discuss my hobby with others. I was on ENWorld way back when, during the Eric Noah era, and during the first years of Morrus' stewardship also. I used to frequent the site, because I loved keeping up with Blackdirge's custom monsters. At any rate, I enjoyed the site back then, and it stayed with me in my memory, so I found it again, and here I am.

The last two things that I can think to tell you about me, with regard to this mutual hobby of ours, is that I am now, and always will be, a die-hard Greyhawker, and that I like to use Lego minifigs as miniatures, because there's no painting involved, and the figures can be readily modified. If you'd like to see what that looks like, click on the link below.

...him back to the fight and he shifts his hands on the club into a wider two handed grip. It will be easier to make quick swats at the bugs rather than pull back and try for a big swing. Taylar's adjustment to combat tactics brings his weapon into play faster but not before his second beetle is up on him. Beetle: 8(lethality) + 12(attack) + 80(d100) = 100 Taylar: 8(Konokoro) + 9(Defensiveness) + 73(d100) = 90 Damage: 100 - 90 = 10% * 4: ineffective Though the beetle manages to make contact with its enlarged mandibles, Taylar's defensiveness is enough to render the assault ineffective. He spins his granbaton from the hand position in the middle to attempt to knock the beetle down and away. Taylar: 11(Fury) + 20(Lethality) + 23(Attack) + 73(d100) = 127 Beetle: 4(defensiveness) + 8(defend) + 80(d100) = 92 Damage: 127 - 92 = 35% *10 = 4 - 2(soak) = 2 Mind: 2 - 2 = 0: unconscious Even though the blow was administered one handed, it is enough. The beetle is knock down and stunned. Tellerian Hawke Maka reacts next.

Since the bugs are on the group quicker than he anticipated, Taylar abandons his plan of throwing rocks and golf-club swings into the closest beetle. Taking a few steps forward just to increase his momentum, Taylar gives full might to his first blow. Taylar: 11(Fury) + 20(Lethality) + 23(Attack) + 75(d100) = 129 Beetle: 4(Defensiveness) + 8(Defend) + 60(d100) = 72 Damage: 129 - 72 = 57% * 10 = 6 - 2(soak) = 4 Mind: 2 - 4 = -2: unconscious Body: 4 - 2 = 2: hurt At this point the party is 4 for 4. These beetles look more vicious than the last, but they seem to be falling more readily. Tellerian Hawke Maka and the remaining beetles react last.

The Stranger begins to leap sideways which will carry him between where Indigo and Vadin are standing, his body facing toward Vadin in the intended pass to flick his leading knife blade into an attack as he moves. It will take 1 full second of time for the Stranger to complete the leap, but only 20 tics to flick his blade at Vadin. Indigo, a mere tic slower than the Stranger, slides her left leg backward while striking with her right sword, using the momentum to increase her power and the distance to not endanger Vadin on the other side. Sheldon's mind starts to process his desire, but in his dazed state, his thoughts are slowed. It will take Indigo 30 tics to slide her foot and swing her blade. It will take Sheldon 60 more tics just for his thoughts to coalesce. No action has been completed, yet. Tellerian Hawke Merin and Tor react.

Indigo draws both of her swords and moves quickly toward the hammock. She can smell the blood before she reaches it. Myth is lying in the hammock on his side. His body is facing away. His head has been severed and is missing from the body. Indigo makes no sound as she turns toward the house but waves of danger can be readily felt emanating from her. Sheldon takes a rock from his pouch and tosses it toward the porch of the guildhouse. The rock strikes the wooden planks and bounces near the wall as it begins to glow like one of the lamps about town. As the light illuminates the porch, somewhat, an unrecognized, Ansylin man can now be seen standing in the open doorway. He appears extremely calm, wielding a single bladed knife in each hand. There are 6 defined seasons in a year's time. There are two repeated cycles of wind then rain then dry. Three are considered cool. Three are considered warm. It is currently the hot dry season of the year, called Doldrum. Sitting at their usual table in The Watering Hole, when Maka's clan is in town to trade, the three friends discuss some of the odd behavior of the soldiers, but dismiss it, as it has only happened this once, and soldiers are not that interesting. What IS always interesting are the stories of great tales that find there way into travelers' news. Some are dismissed as complete fabrication, like the preposterous idea that a dragon lives in the mountain range to the north. Some seem more plausible, like bears three times the height of a man live within the wood of towering trees along the windy coast. Most recently miners have been claiming to see lights in the night going into one of the old bores. The lights are not fires of torches or lamps. They are some strange mystical lights. ...

Just making sure that MacConnell and Tellerian Hawke know that I haven't abandoned this game (or the Bluffside game on The Piazza). I already posted in the Crow God game for the others playing in this game. (FYI, for Mac and T.H., did you guys see my last post for the Bluffside game? I updated it about two weeks ago. I haven't checked it in a while since it has been to hot to turn on my PC.) I've been having to deal with ongoing heatwaves and problems with my allergies and asthma (plus some chronic pain flareups). July is always a hard month for me, and I spend as much time as I can at the malls in order to escape the heat and pollen. Today will be another one of those days and maybe the next two days as well.

@Tellerian Hawke & @Kwargrow & @Sylvar B. I figure y'all will be going with the same characters but if you wish to replace any to try something new, let me know. That is acceptable. Due to her Academic rank, Bolo can actively control 2 companions, if she wishes to add one. Merin can only control one, but he may dismiss Myth and look for another, if he so chooses. @Aust Thale If RL slows some where you wish to pick up again with us, I will update your characters to the appropriate level, or you can choose to try something new. @tglassy This particular PbP relies much more on writing and expressing ideas than technicality. As you have expressed an interest in the past, I wanted to invite you to join in ACT II of the The Untamed Wilds campaign. I think your ability to convey your thoughts would be an asset to the entertainment value of the game.

Okay, so I'm going to come up with a list of rumors floating around the city before I start the In Character thread. It will likely have more than 6 or 7 rumors but hopefully not more than 12. I'm going to post in here sometime today, but I am going to be out for a bit, so the In Character thread won't be put up until later in the day. I'm going to make some assumptions about where each PC is as the game starts unless any of you have any specific ideas. Tellerian Hawke and JustinCase's PCs are already settled in Cauldron City, but I'm assuming -- Thateous, MacConnell, and Scotley -- that your PCs are all newcomers to the city unless you say otherwise.

It must be from the PHB with the restrictions noted in the post. Plus, the PCs gain a bonus in gp of 1,000 for the creation of a signature item.
