  • 02:10 PM - JonnyP71 quoted Legatus_Legionis in post POLL: What edition of D&D did you most recently play/run?
I guess that is why we usually end up just getting together and running a "random dungeon generator" session. We write up multiple PCs (for when one or more die), have no attachment to them, and just enjoy the hack-n-slash/treasure, social aspect of getting together for an evening of sitting around and BS'ing the time away. In the example of my game, these are PCs that have been lovingly developed for a couple of years ;) But at level 9-11 in AD&D, the Clerics are able to cast Raise Dead, so it's rarely permanent... (at -1 CON each time a PC is raised, their CON stats are suffering though, the G series has been brutal)

Tis said new reports that up to 4 people were shot/stabbed during the celebratory parade. :.-( Four people hit by gunfire near the celebration. Two separate stabbings at the Eaton Centre (a shopping mall, some distance away from the celebrations), and apparently more gunfire in the same area I mentioned previously, where there was a shooting exactly a week before.

  • 05:13 PM - Sacrosanct quoted Legatus_Legionis in post Favorite version: White Dragon [poll]
In 1e, the dragons were mostly solitary creatures, and acted more like beasts than the intellectual ones from later on. . If that's the case, then it's the fault of the DM playing them, not on how the dragons were actually designed. Even in 1e, white dragons were the only ones with low intelligence. Black dragons were average (and thus should have been played as if they were as smart as an average person). Every other dragon had high to exceptional intelligence. If a DM played them like beasts, that did a huge disservice to the dragon.

But when those 1E came out, with nothing else to compare them to, they were considered "Good". Eh, no, I first encountered them in the early 80s, and I did not consider them good in the 80s. There was stuff to compare them too, Castle Amber, White Plume Mountain, Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh managed not to suck, there was stuff in Dragon and White Dwarf (before it was a Warhammer mag), and failing that, you can compare to what you can create yourself (on the back of an envelope in 5 minutes).

With word of how bad the 401 is, and most roads around the GTA in general, how would you know the difference? I would have to leave for work as soon as I got home from work? I'm in the downtown core and drive down to the lakeshore, past Scotiabank Arena, to get out of town at the end of the day. 401 is well to the north. Aaaaaaand, now there's been a shooting right in front of the university where I work. That's half a block north of where the unofficial celebrations had started and where the celebrations will be taking place on Monday, in Yonge-Dundas Square. *Correction* The parade will be terminating at City Hall (as seen and blown-up in Resident Evil: Apocalypse), not Yonge-Dundas Square.

  • 07:02 PM - Ryujin quoted Legatus_Legionis in post John Wick 3- Should You See It?
    1. Did you see John Wick? ... ... If no, go to 2. No, I have not. 2. Why haven't you seen it? It's so very awesome. Go see it now, and then go to 1. The film just never interested me. The only way I would see it is if I am stuck at someone else's house, and they play the DVD (and I did not excuse myself before then). Guess I will stay at #2. :p You've created a FOR/NEXT loop. No staying at #2 for you!

Those who have not yet been awakened to the awesomeness of John Wick. 3. The innumerate.

  • 03:10 PM - Umbran quoted Legatus_Legionis in post GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8--Final Run-- Part 6---THE END
While the writing dual of D&D were able to take the novels and create a script out of it, doing something 'original' those two failed badly. It wasn't original. They were writing to GRRM's outline. There is a petition to get season 8 remade with competent writes; Each episode costs something like $10 million to produce. To get it remade, you don't need a petition with 1 million signatures. You need $100 million.

Well, I found that ending satisfactory. The Starks won the game after all! Brandon Stark is now king of the Six Kingdoms, while Sansa Stark is queen of the North. Meanwhile, Arya Stark is set to displace Barbie as queen of the waves, and Jon looks like he may just end up king beyond the Wall. That was *almost* a smile on his face when he looked at all the wildlings around him. Oh, and the very best part? Ghost finally got his cuddle! Who's a good boy den?! And to think those two get to work on Star Wars next. I am not looking forward to it.I reckon their version of Star Wars won't be any worse than anyone else's. There is a petition to get season 8 remade with competent writes ...Doesn't matter how many signatures it gets. Never gonna happen. The North decides to be its own kingdom. Yara: Wait, that's a f***ing option? We tried seceding thirty years ago and y'all flipped out and took my brother as a hostage.I reckon Yara knew better than to protest since the people in charg...

  • 06:07 PM - Umbran quoted Legatus_Legionis in post How Do You Rate a TV Show/Game/Movie?
This makes critic's scores meaningless too. No. It may *reduce* the meaning, but it does not eliminate it entirely. Do some reviewers slightly inflate their reviews so that they continue to get early access? Possibly to probably. Do they all do so massively? Probably not. Critics also need their reviews to at least vaguely track with public perception, or people will stop reading their reviews, and they lose their jobs. If John Reviewer constantly gives 4.5 out of five for movies that the rest of the world thinks is a 2 out of five, John will quickly become irrelevant and not get paid. John wants to get paid. This will especially be true for truly bad movies. If a reviewer gives an awesome review to a movie that you find was merely okay, you can chalk that up to differences of opinion. If they list a movie that is trash as being "OK+", and you went based on the strength of the review, you're going to hold the nausea you felt watching it against the reviewer, which the reviewer r...

If the Kalyon's are so superior, why were they so bad marksmanship and tacticians. Man, don't *ever* watch Star Wars, James Bond, Star Trek, or anything else which features protagonists!
  • 03:50 PM - Ryujin quoted Legatus_Legionis in post The Orville Season Two - Thoughts?
Considering how bad things are in this episode, other than Claire, everyone's hair and clothing and face is all clean, etc. Costuming/makeup did NOT do its job to reflect how bad things are on the characters. PLUS: If the Kalyon's are so superior, why were they so bad marksmanship and tacticians. As for bad tacticians... why did the rebels leave their base to become living targets? And why was the base not covered from all sides from the Kalyons? It felt like they rushed to get this strip written/approved/filmed without thinking it through. Over all, this was one of the poorest outings for the Orville. The Kaylons were great shots when they started to take the rebel base, because NPCs. They kept missing Mercer and Malloy because PCs/"The Force is strong with them."

  • 06:56 AM - MonsterEnvy quoted Legatus_Legionis in post Idea's for Rival party.
Have you done this story with another group before? Using details, names, etc. about what that other group did, and place them within your current game. Making your players worried as there is a second group (NPCs) out there. I always like how, in games I have done, where the group was expecting to get ambushed at a certain place, only to find out the ambush already happened, and the group finds the aftermath of it. Knowing they are one step behind, making them hurry up, etc.. oh what fun. And then, when I allow the players to get ahead of the other group, and they realize "why was the other group not here..." and the doubt they took a wrong turn, expect an ambush of their own, etc. While this stuff is cool, I think you're misunderstanding what I want help with.
  • 02:32 AM - Zardnaar quoted Legatus_Legionis in post Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker Trailer
I heard an interesting theory. "The Rise of Skywalker" refers not to the person of Luke Skywalker, but to a cult/religious order that forms when the Resistance transmits to the universe all that Luke Skywalker, the Last of the Jedi, did to defeat the Empire. Before the release of the title, it was rumoured to be "The Wills of the Force". An order that believed in the Neutrality of the Force, where the Jedi and the Sith used the most extreme/polar opposite views. (Currently Legends material.) Might not be a bad idea unless the Skywalkers replace the Jedi. Not a fan of that idea. Once this trilogy is done I want less Skywalkers and the Jedi to still be around. Put simply new force tradition called Skywalkers eh ok whatever its OK, Skywalkers replacing the Jedi sigh makes RoTJ pointless.

  • 02:00 PM - Ryujin quoted Legatus_Legionis in post The Orville Season Two - Thoughts?
I too dislike how the show had to "alter" itself from what the fans loved to what the critics/media wants instead. And how much of that has to also do with not just all the producers, but also the number of directors they are using this season (over season 1). There has been 13 different directors to-date. 6 did 1 episode each. 4 did 2 episodes each. 1 did 3 episodes 1 did 4 episodes (that was Seth himself with "Deflectors", "A Happy Refrain", and "Ja'loja") 1 did 4 episodes. Multiple directors can change the tone of the delivered product, but it's the writers who give broader continuity. Producers have a wider effect, due to them being the primary funders of a show. (It's why groups like Zombie Orpheus Entertainment don't do the big investor thing).
