Caerth is pleased that Balorix asks him for permission directly, even though he realizes this is not about him. Still, the proud half-orc shows himself to be satisfied with this outcome. "I have promised Hornauer we will not harm him or his brood, and them leaving makes sure we can keep that promise without breaking the one to the Lady. So that is what we do first," he says, trying to sound...

Sobec nods, his reptilian head making the motion seem artificial almost. ”I want to know how many bandits there are, and if there is more than one vesk I need to face,” he says with the absolute certainty that only he can face others of his race. ”Far side, Skitter?” he asks his friend.

No heir. There are probably some ancillary members of the Imperial family, but the emperor has to be Paladine (God), and when the emperor was killed, so was Paladine. The Queen (his assassin) tried to set herself and the Helveki line on the throne, and that triggered the civil war that broke up the empire. Arideen (what is left of the empire in the mountains) is now ruled by a regency council...

For the Old Ones, think like Celts. Their tribes were pushed to the western fringes of the Empire when the Arideens moved into Essuss and Helveki. Many tribes integrated into imperial society. If your father was a legionnaire, he might be one of them. Others maintained the old ways and exist now mostly in western Essuss and the Ingha Swamp. Many on the island of Gilead are "civilized" Old Ones...

Pelegon remains silent for two seconds as he seems to gauge Everett's meaning. Then the hermit starts to laugh; a pleasant, infectious laughter. "A frog! Ha! I like your thinking. But no, I'll pass on the amphibian delicacies, thank you kindly." Still snickering, he looks to each of the companions in turn. "You the rescue party? I'm in your debt. Following Drake with his unsteady gait, Brother Pelegon nods at the group of adventurers. With his unwashed clothes, unshaved face and the smell of liquor, the aasimar must look like a drunken vagabond caught up in the trouble with the lizardfolk, but Perin and Surina may recognize him as the hermit who keeps to himself mostly. "Brother Pelegon," he introduces himself to the gathering, then...

You could be very right about that. I like 5e better; it’s simpler and easier to explain to newbies (and I play with newbies often). But also it feels, on average, more balanced than the edition that ended with “use the book of nine swords or be hopelessly outclassed”.

Dellrak rushed toward Chrysagon and the grappling vines. The two rafts had been put to shore on the largest, driest land-masses that were nearby, but the two masses were separated by a short, shallow channel. It was thick with swamp-grass and the water, muck, and roots between them had not been apparent when the Sticks had first paddled over. Dellrak quickly found himself knee-deep in the swamp as he hustled to help. To make matters worse, the roots and vines underfoot, below the surface of the shallow water were as animate as the other threatening plants, and they wrapped around his ankles as he trudged through the muck. I'm gonna need KahlessNestor Dellrak to make a dc13 Strength Save or get Restrained in the muck & twitching vines between the two island-peaks. If he makes it, he can just make it to the Assassin Vine and make your posted attack, otherwise he can use his action to try to escape with a dc13 Athletics check, or do something else if you choose.

Tommi, Enseth, & Titus vs Bugbear1 Hearing the commotion from across the common room, Enseth and Titus left off searching the Wizard's room and rushed out to help. Tommi imagined someone was there to help him, but it was only the force of Enseth's missiles striking the large hairy goblin. Jynn's boy stabbed at the brute with Gutter, but he could not generate enough force to pierce the bugbear's thick hide. "Ha!" scoffed the hairy brute as it was grazed by Titus' bolt, "You no kill Shorgg, liddle man-child!" He carried Tommi around the corner to avoid further fire and slammed the young man up against the wall, choking him still. Two more bugbears that were behind them lurking in the shadows of the dark basement, ran past. They burst forth into the common room, howling and brandishing large fiendish-looking clubs. Still Angis @KahlessNestor to go. (I'll get to Dandin & the NPCs then, too!) KahlessNestor I was just checking out your latest post and I have two questions: 1: If you are using Planar Warrior (As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you. The next time you hit that creature on this turn with a weapon attack, all damage dealt by the attack becomes force damage, and the creature takes an extra 1d8 force damage from the attack.) Where is your extra 1d8 damage? 2: What's the opportunity attack for? Just in case someone provokes?

The force that passed through was the real threat, apparently. Arduniel meets the diseased. Now, they are fully recovered. All three tainted heroes, plus Allanor, are here. They felt they had to move towards the castle with all urgency, seeking out a tome held by the Priestess - they dreamed about it, or so they say. They're kept on a short leash, though: they attacked everyone and everything on sight as they arrived. Inside, the ruins aren't terribly different. The only true distinction appears on the back rooms, where the Priestess kept her altar: the sanctuary spell fell, the room's been ravaged and the priestess vanished. No one remains, except the dead - both drow and owls. The faint presence of a couple of teleportation spells remain in the air, marks on the floor denouncing it. @KahlessNestor is unusually quiet and this is still in early introductions he'll easily catch up. As Saarthax and Bernold enter the church they catch the attention of an old man shuffling up the aisle. “Good evening.” He greets as he eyes the strangers. After a moment he adds, “I am Father Belderone, and I can guess as to who you are. I am sorry to hear of your father. I see you serve Cavall. You are most welcome here, in the church. I wish I could say the same for the town. What can I do for you?" “Stay out of trouble!” one well-dressed man calls, “We don’t take kindly to ratcatchers here, get your food and get out.” Orin easily finds a table in the mostly empty inn and is quickly served by a young girl – the spitting image of the older woman behind the bar. The inn is surprisingly cool inside, the doors and windows open to allow in the evening light and air, and it’s easy to imagine the large room becoming hot and stuffy with the whole town crowded in. There is a group of four engaged in s...

Still, a few statues translate the new elfic patheon, something represented by the Priestess’ practices around Alessia. Some of the statues have been enchanted to create emotional reactions on the worshippers – from fear to comfort. Others have been prepared as fertility charms, or simply as pieces to harness magical forces. Some have also been prepared to house natural spirits, while others have been made to become funeral icons. The ones that interest Daxio the most, though, are those that have been destroyed. They held language and illusion enchantments, preserving messages and tales delivered by the Lyllend as prophecies. He seeks out for any other pieces of information, but it seems that most of the studios were destroyed, along with their owners... Watching from afar Morgrym already understands the nature of the deals: both Willy and Tessa employ bartering charms, using magic to sweeten deals and smooth the talk. They could certainly be used in interesting alchemic experiments... The youth pulls a couple of mushrooms and waves them in front of the group. "Smell this... KahlessNestor I should probably have looked at all the posts in the thread before replying. I didn't see you had posted the character already. Anyway Eowyn looks good, I'll have to think on what her discovery is. If you're from near Gravesford, you'll know many of the villagers, but as a hermit, I guess avoid them most of the time, except for a young wizard names Pinna. She often comes into the forest to gather herbs and plants for spells and potions. She is very respectful of the forest and only takes small quantities that leave the plants able to recover. She is well liked in the town, especially the children, where she runs a shop of cures and potions.

I've added a bit to the background in post 1 I'm looking at a human Noble wizard or sorcerer...still mulling the exact options. A possible hook for this could be that your father/uncle/whatever was a vassal to Baron Bedegar. After Bedegar was killed and Lord Saxton took power, you father was accused of treason/heresy (real or not) and put to death, his lands taken and given to Lord Saxton's lackeys. You've been away and are returning to find the truth. @Herosmith14 Perhaps the resistance has heard of the happenings in Bedegar and suspect Ajax is moving to take tighter control. You've been sent to investigate. @KahlessNestor This lady The actual character sheet doesn't seem to be there anymore, but the background works easily. She could even be from Graveford originally.

Everywhere, Moss realizes how messy the situation really is. Even though the forces focused on their eastern attack, the area lacks any solid barriers or frontiers. More might be hidden - after all, it's in their nature to act in secrecy. The very nature of the situation confuses Moss. why would they waste their forces in such a disastrous attack? After the task is done, the conflicts die out. Here and there, the hash consequences of the battle still mark the horizon. Suddenly, the encampment's met with a commotion. It was more that I needed the image larger to see things more clearly.Guess I'm lucky in that respect. On the Ap I'm able to tap on the image and get a bigger picture that I can zoom into.

You need the veteran who is only a month feom retirement. Pair him with a rookie. Name him Redshirt :) Whilst this is a joke, it's also the aproach I would take. When it comes to minor NPC characters working out a detailed backstory is pointless. The players won't ask about it, and if they do they will forget it within minutes. The trick is to assign them a sterotype (or archetype if we are being kind) that the players will recognise and remember.

Asherah rushed up, stabbing with her spear and swinging her flail. OOC: that will help with persuassion :) tglassy, is there space enough for the horse(s) in the tunnels? Not that Quentin fights from the horseback, just asking about general dimensions "Asherah, don't rush into things!" He sighs and then rushes right after her. OOC: if possible, shield her, but I think I have to dismount first?

... Trying to determine if Eowyn knows what this is and any special dangers (i.e. poison attack or any attacks requiring saves, etc.) Nature: 1d20 7 Ugh. I wish Hermit gave you Nature instead of Religion for this character LOL Custom background? Just seems more in line with the character. I don't think it would make a difference here. Since I don't think you have used religion, and the fact that we are still quite early in the game, I don't see that change being a problem.

Try Matt Colville's adventurelookup.com maybe? I second this recommendation. Here's the link: https://www.adventurelookup.com/adventures/ Also: I really like Tyranny of Dragons and don't think it deserves the bad rep it has on this site. BUT, I also don't think it fits what you're looking for in this case, since the "urban" parts are mostly council meetings and the actual adventuring parts tend to be out in more remote locations.

I have an idea for a setting based on the Hundred Years War, sort of space fantasy, and also a Wild West themed fantasy. Recently been reading on the Napoleonic Age and thinking that might make an interesting setting too with elves and dwarves thrown in. Not elves, but there is a (imo rather good) book series about Napoleon + Dragons (Temeraire) https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/88bf3f12-b942-4993-9140-62d0498b8a3b/dam6asd-2e6e36da-802b-4a46-8e55-64cc84fd8939.jpg/v1/fill/w_1408,h_567,q_70,strp/battle_by_neboveria_dam6asd-pre.jpg?token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJzdWIiOiJ1cm46YXBwOjdlMGQxODg5ODIyNjQzNzNhNWYwZDQxNWVhMGQyNmUwIiwiaXNzIjoidXJuOmFwcDo3ZTBkMTg4OTgyMjY0MzczYTVmMGQ0MTVlYTBkMjZlMCIsIm9iaiI6W1t7ImhlaWdodCI6Ijw9NjQ1IiwicGF0aCI6IlwvZlwvODhiZjNmMTItYjk0Mi00OTkzLTkxNDAtNjJkMDQ5OGI4YTNiXC9kYW02YXNkLTJlNmUzNmRhLTgwMmItNGE0Ni04ZTU1LTY0Y2M4NGZkODkzOS5qcGciLCJ3aWR0aCI6Ijw9MTYwMCJ9XV0sImF1ZCI6WyJ1cm46c2VydmljZTppbWFnZS5vcGVyYXRpb25zIl19.9ixz71AEgYlxg4xfy7zea4DezMI...

Eowyn crept quietly forward to the downed Saarthax and Orin. She reached out and touched Saarthax on the forehead, making a cooing sound, and healing energy flowed into him. Action: Cast Cure Wounds Cure Wounds second level: 2d8+4 11 DM, does that mean Saarthax gets to act this round, or next one?

You wouldn't need Int or Cha honestly with that spell. It's a buff, so no DC. Not sure why it would even need to be mentioned. You get temp HP's each round equal to your casting modifier.

Perception to identify potions? Perception to identify potions: 1d20+3 22 I think you're supposed to spend a short rest to ID things, but PbP is hard enough to track loot. So you have found 2 potions of healing 1 potions of superior healing 1 potion of fire breathing 2 potions of flying The Helm of Heroism Armour (Helm), Rare (Requires Attunement) Great spirals on the sides of this helm and the pointed nose makes it resemble a ram. Great tales of those that have worn this helm are told the length and breadth of the land, of their courage and selfless deeds that led to great victories. Once per day the wearer can cast the spell Heroism as a first level spell. This spell has a range of self and does not use your concentration. You can choose to use your INT, WIS or CHA as your casting attribute for the spell.

...roscope is all about "being in the moment", examining only the task at hand. Since it seems we're read to move on, let's come to an agreement on which of these Big Picture options we would like to work on: THE BIG PICTURE 1. An arcane field of knowledge - long lost and forgotten by most - has resurfaced, throwing a civilization into chaos! 2. Civilisation had reached a shining pinnacle of Art, Science, and Magic, but then a Stellar Event occurred, and now all the rules have changed. 3. A huge spaceship is sent from Earth to colonize a distant world. 4. An ancient empire rises and falls. 5. In the darkest recesses of space, the whispering dreams of a sleeping entity call out. A wise but stagnant empire answers the call, hoping to serve the entity in exchange for salvation from inevitable destruction. 6. A great civilization discovers an ancient secret whose power both threatens the civilization and holds the key to its salvation. Link to the brainstorming document. Players: @KahlessNestor @Shayuri @Archon Basileus @FitzTheRuke @ART! That #6 was just me trying to smoosh together the first 5 pitches, so let's ignore that - unless people really dig it, I guess! I vote for one of the following: 1. An arcane field of knowledge - long lost and forgotten by most - has resurfaced, throwing a civilization into chaos! 2. Civilisation had reached a shining pinnacle of Art, Science, and Magic, but then a Stellar Event occurred, and now all the rules have changed. 5. In my head, no sound. But I suppose she could do that. A compromise with the rules LOL Normally the components of a spell are rarely a problem, but it does give the DM a tool to stop spell casters being able to cast all the time (in the same way you can take away a fighter's weapon). Somatic component? tie his hand. Material Component? Take his focus/pouch. Verbal component? Gag him. Its something that matters 1 in 100 sessions? so from that regard I wouldn't mind allowing a mute spell caster. My real concern for mute spell casting though is the silence spell. Its a VERY powerful anti spell caster effect that I am not willing to discard. If you really want Eowyn to not talk and you an think of a way to compensate then go ahead. We could just say that as long as Eowyn could speak she can cast the spell.

I had a realization on the last turn that I built Eowyn as someone who never speaks. That...is going to interfere with spellcasting verbal components, since it it assumed you have to speak in a loud, clear voice. So I'm a bit stuck, since pretty much every spell has V. GM, how should we handle this? :/ Does she make no sounds at all? A simple solution would be that Eowyn whistles, clicks or humms the vocal components but otherwise doesn’t talk.

Rolled a 1 which I believe is a double fail. Ah yes, I missed that. Sorry dude, I hate killing PC's even in games that are meant to be dangerous and deadly. Just curious why carrying an unconscious person is a grapple? They are not resisting? Seems like it would be more of an object interaction, and maybe impose some encumbrance penalties. And damn. Don't want to lose anyone! Looks like I misread the object interaction rules - just re-read them. For some reason I thought that having a tough interaction (like the stuck lever in the PHB example) required your action, which it does not, only a STR check. Treating dragging a character like a grapple just struck me as an easy way to to achieve the goal. The grapple automatically succeeds, since the target is unconscious, and movement is halved for grappling, so that makes a simple version of encumbrance. But yeah, it could just be an object interaction with an encumbrance penalty.

That sounds great. I kind of see Eowyn as sort of like Zecora from My Little Ponies. That strange woman of the woods. She is odd. Never talks. Sometimes stands there in the middle of the street and just...stares. Likes to watch paint dry and grass grow. I had to look that up. My daughter only watches one DVD of my little ponies and its an old school original moved to DVD. I'm pretty sure we'll soon be sick of My Liitle Pony though, she's going ever more mad for ponies in general. KahlessNestor it's like we woke a dragon by talking about this. My daughter found MPL on Netfilx just after these posts, and now wants to watch it all the time. The newer stuff is not the same as the sickening show I remember my sister watching when we were kids. It's probably one of the more bearable kids show's

I agree with Umbran that many people's trouble with Tolkien is likely more a result of modern people's lack of attention span due to television and screens than anything to do with his writing. I saw the same thing when Chris Claremont came back to the X-Men in 2000. Fans have the attention span of squirrels on crack and couldn't handle his deliberate story pacing, so he was out within six months and they brought in some people to hack out some terrible wrap ups. Personally I wonder if it was true that modern people have such bad attention spans then how come modern novels like Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time and Harry Potter are so much longer then Lord of the Rings and apparently just as popular.

That looks like 4E. Cool. It probably was. Matt does reference 4e a lot in his videos. Yes, that's who I was wanting to play. I could do an Establishment with her, like a tavern or a theatre, and sure, Gravesford could be her home. But that might be too many casters if Max is doing a wizard or sorcerer. We probably need some healing, so maybe I will look into a druid. The character sheet worked on my phone when I tried. If you want to play her, that's fine. If there is a lack of healing characters in a party I don't mind handing out some extra healing potions as you go. I'd rather people played what they want, rather than someone being forced to play the heal-bot
