@LuisCarlos17f in D&D you can play drow and play them following Lolth or you can play them having abandoned those darker teachings. In 2e there was an adventure (I forget its name) but you played the humanoids defending your home against the evil adventurers/ heroes who were invading your home, slaying your kin and taking your treasures. In the BECMI series there was the Gazetteer Orcs of Thar which provided a table of XP for pillaging, slaying and capturing slaves. Hell, one of the stories I'd like to run is where the main PCs are illithids protecting the elder brain from a violent uprising of of ex-thralls helped on by the Githyanki. In Vampire, you have the opportunity of playing kindred with outrageous views, opposing mortals and the supernatural alike not only in combat, but in politics, religion and more - nevermind the inner struggle with the beast within and the effects of immortality on such mind. To have this desire to continuously apply real life ideology to a game seems a little too rig...

LuisCarlos17f for a modern setting I would go for something like Warspell: the Merged https://www.amazon.co.uk/WarSpell-Merge-Gorg-Huff-ebook/dp/B07L416R4W/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=Warspell&qid=1553620903&s=digital-text&sr=1-1-catcorr Which is D&D with the serial numbers filed off.

LuisCarlos17f That seems reasonable under a nine alignment system. Good, Evil and Nature are the three most important factions in D&D-world, with a possible Cthulhu/Tharizdun/Far Realm as a fourth. Under the three alignment system I'd place Nature as neutral. This is a different approach to Tolkien, where nature is very clearly good and the forces of evil, represented by orcs and Saruman, are strongly anti-nature.

A melee weapon not only has to be hard, but also enough light for a faster fight. Try fight with toy weapons by plastic and you will notice the bat'leth is horrible 1d6/1d6 P/S damage. -4 attack roll -2 AC Reason: Probably the dumbest fantasy weapon ever imagined. Look if we are going to examine 3.5 Weapons based on effectiveness, I have a lot more to complain about than the bat'leth (which is admittedly a terrible weapon, though the mek'leth is not so bad) but that's not what the OP asked.

I don't like when those monster characters share ideas by Nietzsche about the ‹bermensch and the christianity as a ethic of slaves. I'm not going to comment on everything else but just want to focus on this. As with humans, with differing and sometimes opposing ideologies, why is it so strange to have that same struggle of ideas within Vampires society?

You can enjoy the free speech to report the wrong actions by other people, but I advise when you criticize then do it with the same tone like somebody of your own family or town, to show what to be fixed or improved, not to promote hate like toxic people. Don't worry about genetic code by your descendents, maybe they will be half-blood (most likely in the cosmopolitan capital cities), but about their moral values. Reporting racism, homophobia, or machism (male chauvinism) isn't enough. We have to defend the respect of the human dignity, the pillar of our rights, or we will fall in the dark side of the Force, the rebel against authority will become a new tyrant. Nietzsche said: "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPtMgsN8Tpo

  • 01:37 AM - Dannyalcatraz quoted LuisCarlos17f in post The urban fantasy market seems awfully stagnant
We can't forget the urban fantasy has been very popular in the television from decades ago. For example comedies as "Bewitched", "Genie in a bottle" or "Sabrina the teen witch", but also "monster of the week(/season)" like "Charmed", "Buffy vampire slayer", "Grimm", "Supernatural", "True Blood". Some players don't want urban fantasy because is too close to our real life, and they would rather to imagine they are in a different world, with other culture. If you live in a big city, the buildings are boring for you, but the forestal zones are enough "exotic". * WoD is more fluff than crunch, and the metaplot in the RPGs can't be like before internet. See also Forever Knight, Friday the 13th: the Series, the aforementioned Kolchak, Dark Shadows and so many more.

  • 11:20 PM - schneeland quoted LuisCarlos17f in post Origins Up 11%; Maintains #4 Spot
Maybe we are in the beginning of a golden age for RPGs because the bubble of the videogame industry will burst relatively soon. More people want to play with the imagination and create their own fanart stories. A collapse of the video gaming industry seems unlikely to me - there might be a temporary drought of interesting titles due to the shift to the next console generation, but otherwise, it seems, video games do quite well (especially if we factor in mobile, too). Still, I think the rather accessible 5th edition of D&D, in conjunction with the rise of streaming, crowdfunding of interesting indie titles and a bit of nostalgia seems to bring a lot of people old and new to TTRPGs.
  • 06:39 PM - D1Tremere quoted LuisCarlos17f in post RPG Crowdfunding News Ė Earthdawn, Wicked Ones, The Strapping Lads, Vigilante City 2, and more
My opinion is a true challenge playing superheroes with the d20 system because the challenge rating and the value of XPs reward are broken when characters can use too powerful extra help, for example high-tech. Creating an adventure isn't easy if a PC is a street fighter like Green Hornet, Green Arrow, Batwoman, Daredevil or Hawkeye, but other is a cosmic power like Superman or Captain Marvel. Starlord with only a shot from his spaceship could kill a kaiju as Godzilla, King Kong or the ones from "Pacific Rim". That is why we have DMs/GMs. I tend to treat RPGs as cinema, not simulation.
  • 07:38 AM - Dannyalcatraz quoted LuisCarlos17f in post Do you miss the martial adepts from "Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords"?
"LFQW" means, I guess, "Linear fighter, quadratic wizard". In the beginning the fighter is stronger than wizard, but later in the highest levels the spellcaster is very much more powerful. Thanks for clarifying that! Never bugged me for a moment, though.

  • 11:06 AM - Cap'n Kobold quoted LuisCarlos17f in post Do you miss the martial adepts from "Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords"?
The crusader had got a random system to recover spent maneuvers, and this was too complicated to be used like nPCs by the DM, but maybe like a solo boss. 5th ed tends to use a "Recharges on a roll of x+ on a d6" for NPC mechanics that aren't just a set number of times per encounter. My opinion is the first step to reintroduce the martial maneuvers could be new subclasses, and later something like the pathfinder archetypes when some class features are replaced by others..(gladiator class from Dark Sun would be an example of D&D version of Pthf archetypes). We need to differentiate between maneuvers with ki power source, or magic. Ki should be a power source like arcana, divina, primal magic, or psionic. In 5e, Ki is explicitly a kind of magic. Splitting magic into arcane, divine, primal, psionic etc is very much a 4th ed thing, not 5th ed. If you're going to do that, why not put ki back in psionic? Martial adept classes can't be only fighters with martial maneuvers, but they also need their ow...

  • 07:47 PM - The White Sorcerer quoted LuisCarlos17f in post SLA Industries 2nd Edition Coming In September
The megacorporations can be an antagonist faction in lots of stories of speculative fiction, but the abuse of the cliche may be to become really annoying. Sometimes I miss some work about a dystopia where the economy is monopolized by the state, where the businessmen and CEOs are former politicians or high commissioners enjoying their revolving doors, and they don't worry about being competitive because no rival brand is going to steal them clients or suffering the consequences of their mistakes because we are who are going to pay for the broken plates. Sci-fi stories tend to be about the society they are written in. If anything the megacorp concept will go out of fashion because people crave escapism.

  • 08:50 AM - Bagpuss quoted LuisCarlos17f in post Cyberpunk Genre RPGs
    * Were there rules about genetic engineering for "transgenic" humanoids in Cyberpunk 2020? Have you thought about the impact if we find the secret of eternal youth and the retirement by old wouldn't be necessary? To find a new job would be harder for just linceced, and the ascend in the company when the boss always will be there but if he want to create his own new businessmen. Biotechnology was in some of the later Chrome books, same as in Shadowrun. But transhuman was mainly about going to full conversion 'borgs, brain-in-a-box type thing. The in scenario "Never fade away", in Cyberpunk 2013, Alt Cunningham, a netrunner and girlfriend of Johnny Silverhand, invented the Soul Killer virus that could create a digital version of somebodies mind. It was used on herself and she became the A.I. "Alt" which featured significantly in setting (a poster of her was on a wall in the original announcement movie trailer for Cyberpunk 2077).

  • 09:05 PM - hawkeyefan quoted LuisCarlos17f in post Things from the Flood Is Now Available
Is "Tale of the Loop" a right RPG to play with children players ( I don't mean children PCs), to give as gift to a children? Probably not, in general, but I suppose it would depend on the specific children, and how you decided to play the game. It's very nostalgia based on the 1980s, so some kind of awareness of that time helps. It's also a horror/dark sci-fi game setting in the vein of Stranger Things. The PCs cannot die, but I would expect that most games would still have some kind of material that would be considered scary. Things From the Flood is the next step, and moves the game forward into the 1990s, with PC ages being a bit older, and the game has higher stakes because the PCs can die in this game. So if you played with kids who are more mature than their age and who either have some grasp of the 80s or won't mind missing the nostalgia factor, or if you ran a game that was more weird and less scary or something similar, then you might be okay.

WotC should talk with 3rd party publishers for the feedback to create a d20 Modern 2.0. what could become the universal d20 for all the genres. Some publishers would like use other abilities scores, for example Courage or Grace(luck/karma/fate). I'd also like to see a d20 Modern 2.0.

  • 03:03 PM - Jer quoted LuisCarlos17f in post RPGs Finally Get Some Credit in Defining a Galaxy: A Review
I love SW but it is a setting where jedis are the stars of the show and no-force adepts become "boring" without those superpowers. I miss some things from the SW legends, the expanded universe, but also I don't like too much the Skywalker family like the centre of the attention. After the fall of the empire a lot of things happened and almost all linked with Skywalkers. This setting needs more force adepts but neither jedis nor siths. Eh - I actually think it's the opposite. I think that the RPGs and the Expanded Universe stuff focuses way too much on the Force and Jedi politics and not enough on the rest of the Space Opera that is the Star Wars Universe. Han Solo and Chewbacca were major parts of what made the first trilogy great, and it was because they were awesome, not because they had Force powers. One of my big complaints about the prequel trilogy is that it immersed itself in the Jedi and ignored a good half of what made the first trilogy so great . This is one of the things t...

Apu is a very loved character from the Simpsons cartoon for decades and now he is not politically correct. Some people at UK Expo had unpleasant experience. Do you see this as an opportunity for promoting your agenda about what is and isn't politically correct? If you want to watch "Song of the South" in the privacy of your home, then go for it, have fun. If you wanna play F.A.T.A.L. and/or Custer's Revenge with your friends, then go for it, have fun. But please don't use this particular thread to tell us all about your bold decisions to enjoy things which other might find offensive.

I see some 3rd party companies create settings in modern tech age, but I wonder about we need a new d20 Modern or maybe this should be changed to be really multigenre. How to explain better? The night slasher, the psycho-killer, leader of the cult of the new dawn and main antagonist of Sylvester Stallone's "Cobra" movie it would be a knightmare for PCs without weapons, but with theses and enough ammo the thing changes. Why not a module to add more abilities scores? For example Astuteness, Courage, Grace(Karma/fate/luck) and Technique (Des for reflex and Agility, Tch for crafting, maneuvers of martial arts, arts, playing music, dance...). Serious question - between Esper Genesis and the D&D 5e core rules, what rules are missing that this couldn't already be done?
