And akr71 takes the lead! ( rczarnec also guessed the same amount, but akr71 guessed it first.) There are only 8 days remaining, and my spreadsheet predicts that Mistwell will win by less than $10k. At $9,264,399 the "Legend of Vox Machina Animated Series" Kickstarter has replaced "The World's Best Travel Jacket" as the 6th highest-funded project in Kickstarter history. Because as Marisha would tell you: 105811

  • 03:15 AM - Esker quoted rczarnec in post Balancing a Homebrew AoE Stun Spell
Another point of comparison is Psychic Scream which is an AOE stun with some damage and is not concentration. It is a 9th level spell. Well, it's 10 creatures of your choice, not an AoE, which makes it a lot more powerful (compare the strength of the debuff on Slow vs the one on Hypnotic Pattern as an example of what that's worth), plus it lasts until they save. I mean, yes, of course it should be stronger as a 9th level spell. But suppose this were a 5' radius or a 10' cube. Maybe if you're extremely lucky / your enemies have extremely poor tactics you might be able to get 3 or 4 creatures, but realistically you're usually using it on 2. You could use a 3rd level slot to cast Command on three creatures of your choice and tell them to grovel. They lose a turn (same as this spell), and they're prone (not as good as auto-advantage unless you have mostly melee allies, but pretty good). They can still take reactions, and they don't fall prone until their turn, which depending on initiative order ...

  • 12:05 AM - Warmaster Horus quoted rczarnec in post [AL] Are Season 8's New Rules an Improvement?
You say that providing XP for overcoming encounters is a "fuzzy" option, but then say that the new method is better because you can award AP based on whether or not you feel that the story is being served/advanced. That is much fuzzier than overcoming encounters. There is no criteria at all for this, merely that you "feel" that they deserve it. Yep. Fuzzy isn't all bad, but can effect someone's decision to use non-combat xp awards if they think they'll get 'official' criticism for doing so. Since APs are all fuzzy; no harm, no foul in awarding them as you decide as a DM. If you think the party was engaged in the game, having fun, etc and met any mod objective criteria regardless of how they achieved that, then it's all good.

  • 11:02 PM - Warmaster Horus quoted rczarnec in post [AL] Are Season 8's New Rules an Improvement?
That was always an option, these rule changes do not change that in the least. I've heard this before. The truth is that it is simpler for a DM to feel justified in providing ascribed xp for defeating monsters than saying they earned it via other methods. Therefore they know they are good if they give the xp for combat but might feel less inclined to provide the equivalent amount for solutions not involving fighting. Yes, it's been an option, but a more fuzzy one than just awarding xp for stomping monsters. Lastly, I ran ToA for a year and had to think of lots of extra encounters to present to my players to provide them necessary advancement because the AL allowance for 'roleplaying xp' was downright paltry. Now it's just hours played, straight and simple (provided I feel the story is being served/advanced).

  • 11:46 PM - gyor quoted rczarnec in post Renown "Benefits"
It happened at the beginning of Season 8. In order to be part of a faction a character has to have the Faction Agent background or replace the feature of their current background with the Safe Haven feature. Existing characters have the option to switch to the Faction Agent feature and remain in their faction. If the character maintains the current background and feature, then they are no longer part of a faction (and their renown count resets to 0). Yeah honestly this really messed things up. Safe Haven should just be a bonus background feature in addition to your regular one. And that goes double for Ravnica. Factionband background should have been separate things from the word go. The current situation is an unbalanced mess.

The Hobbit--15 Princess Mononoke--15 Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind--7 Spirited Away--14 Kubo and the Two Strings--4 The Dark Crystal--14 Kubo was corrected to 9 and remained at 9 in post 338, it was then downvoted in 339, but was downvoted by 3. It was then downvoted by another 3 in post 341. I am adding back the 2 that it shouldn't have lost and then upvoting it. Yeah, having this thread and the Halloween one running at the same time with downvotes being 2 in one and 3 in the other was a mistake.

post 323 Kubo is at 10, post 324 Kubo is downvoted to 7 (downvotes should be 2), when I posted #325, I restored Kubo to 8. FYI, I would suggest you note that you made a correction. If you had done that I would have never noticed that it changed without a note or color indicating the change. I don't think it is thread policy, but I always note a correction with cyan text. Of course, this time my correction was actually an error! Thank you for pointing it out.

Adjusting for missed vote #836) and a math error (#842). Burroughs, Edgar Rice 14 Dunsany, Lord 11 Leiber, Fritz 12 Tolkien, J.R.R. 9 Williamson, Jack 8 Zelazny, Roger 12 My bad, I forgot to delete the +/- when I pasted (which obviously confused the heck out of everyone lol). I downvoted Tolkien and upvoted LIeber, so it should be: Burroughs, Edgar Rice 14 Dunsany, Lord 11 Leiber, Fritz 13 Tolkien, J.R.R. 6 Williamson, Jack 10 Zelazny, Roger 12

Maybe you could try to get the demon to give you the true name of another demon. Now that’s a different issue and as a parting gift it’s great. A demon is a chaotic creature so would surly sell out another demon. Likewise but different, devils are lawful creatures but always trying to climb the ladder, selling out a rival is certainly something it would consider trying.

  • 01:04 PM - gyor quoted rczarnec in post Update to Season 8 Rules
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/changes-dd-adventurers-league-rewards There are some changes to the problematic item list. For example, Dawnbringer can now be exchanged for points or for a Sun Blade. Mithral Splintmail +1 can no longer be exchanged for points, only for Splintmail +1 or Mithral Splintmail. Points gained in this manner must still be spent immediately on items of your tier or lower. Note that there is now a point to GP option on the unlocked item list, one point for 50 GP. That is too low, you better off taking armour and sell it. It needs to be equal to what you can see armour for.

  • 11:03 AM - CapnZapp quoted rczarnec in post Season 8 Changes (Adventurers League)
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/changes-dd-adventurers-league-rewards This outlines the changes coming for season 8 including checkpoints and treasure points. Certain problematic items are being removed from all characters and faction items will no longer be available (though the ones that are already on characters can remain). There is an option to take slower advancement if you feel that the checkpoint system advances too quickly.I still don't understand the allure and usefulness of abstract boring treasure points over cold hard gold coins. (Except, of course, that it finally lets WotC off the hook in creating a workable magic item economy)

I prefer the 12 sided d4s. 97889 I have these. I love these d4 dodecahedrons. I wish my they matched my other dice. Regular numbers rather than roman numerals, and transparent if the other dice are transparent. They should probably become standard for most dice sets.
