It is a joke, because there was a Mario Kart game called Double Dash. If you take your movement, use your Action to Dash, and then use your Bonus Action to Dash again, that would be a Double Dash

And how do we know the carpenter/mason didn't face hardship in his journey? He hacked his way through the rainforests of the amazon, just to fight off cannibalistic tribes on his way to his destination to learn the ultimate masonry skills. He...

  • 05:03 PM - OB1 mentioned Slit518 in post What are the best feats to pick for my Human Assassin build?
Slit518 Cool concept, clearly you're thinking character first and it shows with a unique and interesting build that will still be plenty effective. To get the most out of your assassinate ability, I'd go Alert at 4th, then work to up your strength with Tavern Brawler (giving you a +1 str as well as a bonus action grapple) at 8th and then +2 Str at 10th. Past that you could pick from Actor, Lucky, Mobile, Medium Armored, Tough, or Keen Mind depending on how your character evolves during play.

...rrows plenty of the Druid's spells, and a powered down version of Wildshape. But I also looked at the Bard spells for the "trickery" side, and stole a few Warlock spells. And finally, I decided I want to see if using the Spell point system in the DMG would work - thus altogether the Witch could have some Druid and some Warlock flavours and yet be its own class. One thing I starting doing is reviewing the mechanical structure of all the other 5E classes, and the SRD helps as it is all crunch. While fluff is needed to help justify a new arcane class, I feel the mechanics have to "fit" the general class structure and be sufficiently distinct too. It's still a work in progress for me. So when it comes to a final draft I plan to first compose the crunch only version (as thought it could be plugged into the SRD) to ensure mechanical soundness, and then I will dress the Witch up with the needed fluff, already prepared, to complete the answer to the first question: What is a Witch? Slit518: I applaud your effort, and encourage you to keeping working on it, as I will endeavour to flesh out mine. :-)

  • 04:14 AM - Hawk Diesel mentioned Slit518 in post New Wizard Archetype: The Splintered Soul
So this was inspired by Slit518's thread about a character that is actually twins. The idea intrigued me and got me thinking of a Wizard Archetype that really focuses on their familiar. It started off as a challenge to make mechanics that work for the concept, but now I am thinking this may actually be a viable concept. But I am concerned about the balance of the archetype compared to other wizard schools. Familiars are already spoken of as problematic due to their ability to grant advantage nearly at will with the Help action in combat, but this is generally balanced by their low HP and the fact that doing this makes the familiar a target. I am also concerned that it is much wordier than typical for 5e content. So with that, the following are my design goals*: 1) Creating an ally that could pass as your twin, at least mechanically. Thematically though, it could be reskinned to appear as any kind of creature with your statistics. 2) Something that conceptually represents an investment of energy that can act in...

  • 06:27 AM - Quickleaf mentioned Slit518 in post Preview of the Witch Class I am working on
Slit518 I appreciate what you're attempting, but it's a bit of a mess. 1) First, there's no clear conceptual underpinning. "Witches are all different..." "Where they get their power is a different story" OK, apart from that second sentence being thoroughly awkward English, I've taken away nothing from these sentences about what a witch actually is. Compare your opening "identity sentence" to that of the PHB Bard: Whether scholar, skald, or scoundrel, a bard weaves magic through words and music to inspire allies, demoralize foes, manipulate minds, create illusions, and even heal wounds. Even the Bard, the most jack-of-all-trades D&D class, has more coherent identity in that sentence than your witch. My #1 recommendation is to go back to your design notes and create a coherent "identity sentence" for your witch class that meaningfully distinguishes it from the other classes in D&D. Why should witch be its own class? I'm not convinced yet. 2) You're walking into some very nebulous t...

If this is the case, you should receive an email for this post. If not, let me know. Slit518, if you and Yaztromo are willing, we may be able to get you started as soon as tomorrow. Just give me a rough time of day or night you're able to begin and we'll see if there's overlap. Also, please include the time of your post in that post, so I can adjust for time zone differences by comparing it with the time stamp, which displays in my time zone. • 02:01 PM - Unwise mentioned Slit518 in post Dwarven Barbarian solo quest?
Slit518 I think that your suggestion about stat upgrades is just punishing the PC for not doing silly stuff largely. As a Barbarian, he cares about Str and Con mostly, so if he does something clever as opposed to just attacking the spider, does it feel right to 'punish' him by giving him +Int instead? I would rethink that a bit mate. If it was a shrine to Gruumsh or something, sure, punish the weaklings that just don't run in and smash stuff, but what is the dwarf god about? Secondly, why would the dwarf god want to kill anybody that touched his stuff? Is he a homicidal? Why constitution? Why not displaying knowledge of his teachings, being of fine moral fiber, solving a riddle, showing skill at crafting? It just seems oddly out of place and a bit arbitrary. As a home brew god I can't know for sure of course.

  • 01:26 AM - Quickleaf mentioned Slit518 in post Dwarven Barbarian solo quest?
Slit518 Any info on Throgren? Didn't see it among the Morndinsamman. It's a homebrew deity right? Mechanically, I'd say you want to shoot for encounters worth roughly 1,100 - 1,700 XP. For example, a CR 4 Ettin is worth 1,100 XP. Barbarian is a good self-reliant class when it comes to physical challenges, so probably a good class for a solo adventure. Because they have #rages/day, I'd suggest tweaking the long rest rules so that the PC doesn't benefit from a long rest until he descends to a lower altitude basecamp or makes it to the dwarven citadel. IOW he gets no long rests between the 5 challenges up the mountain. This requires strategizing when to use rages (and any other daily resources he might have). You might want to consider having some sort of "Climbing Clock" running in the background with checks / player decisions determining how long each encounter or the traveling between encounters takes. This can influence whether the PC has to do a forced march at any point (making C...

This isn't Mario Kart, we don't Double Dash. I see Dash as a Bonus Action as giving more options in the action economy. Attack, Move, Dash. Hide, Move, Dash. Disarm Trap, Move, Dash. Spell, Move, Dash. Youre OK to do it that way, but if a Rogue with 30' movement dashes twice and moves, he has 90'of movement that round. Dashing is an action that grants you additional movement equal to your speed. Nothing in that prohibits a Rogue from using the same action twice and gaining aditional movement equal to 2 x speed. Same deal with action surging fighters who [Dash] + [Dash] + move, or Action surging Fighter/ Rogues who [Dash] + [Dash] + [Dash] + move.

Whether I played it from before I became a carpenter/mason or after. That's a bad example, because nothing in your work or travels would have given you significant exposure to flute-playing. Contrast that with a wizard who, whether trained or not, is going to spend a lot of time trying to perceive monsters that may or may not be there, and who is going to have repeated first-hand exposure to sword-play. Just as it would be silly for you to spontaneously develop musical ability for no reason, it would be equally silly for this wizard to learn nothing after they have been given so many opportunities.

Is it possible for one person to create their own table top game, setting and all? What do you think? Discuss! Define "create". If you mean make a system and setting and run it, absolutely. I did it when I was younger. If you mean make and publish a professional system, worrying about layout, editing, artwork, marketing, publishing, and the like - well, the answer is still probably yes - there are a lot of self-published games out there. But really, that's a lot of different skills and it's probably a better result to have a lot of people. As a side note, I'm assuming playtesting, as long as it's run by that author, counts as "one person".

OSRIC was the first retro-clone (trying to make 1E alve again) but C&C was the first to use 3E ideas and the OGL to tidy up 1/2E DnD. I think you are mistaken, Gygax didn't write C&C (you ...

Like Dannyalcatraz, I've mostly just played Stormbringer and other Runequest-adjacent games. But I know there are many that think the world of Runequest. As for the Witcher RPG, it's based on the Fuzion system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuzion For those of you who have played RuneQuest - how is it? What editions are your favorite? For those of you who have played RuneQuest - how is it? What editions are your favorite? I've run RQ3 as a generic bronze-age fantasy. Works really well for that. I never got into Glorantha until Hero Wars came out. System is solid, combat deadly. CHaracter gen in 3E is background based. Mongoose version isn't as good - but is playable.
