Yeah changing the size would be better cus halfling would love it lol. What would you recommend to change the dex save too? No save on the 15th ability cus it only applies to critical hits but I can change that i guess . Thanks for feedback !I think the save can model off any of the physical attributes. Is the target knocked prone because a weak spot was hit, because the blow knocked them off balance, etc

For kea’s I was thinking a lot smaller than the other bird species and I was suggested before they be the tricksters of the races. Also dwell in alpine areas. The kea is quite a large parrot (world's only alpine parrot) and is about 48cm/20" tall. Tui etc are much smaller. As for bird races not sure if you've included them but the Kereru (wood pidgeon) is another quite large native bird which pre-colonisation times were very common- used to fly in large flocks but these days 2-3 together around where I live is the most you are likely to see. Hello South Island dweller!! Was thinking south island will be mostly alpine region :D It is far more complicated than that on the mainland- dry east coast, hot deserty dry central regions (MacKenzie Country and Central Otago) Alpine (Southern Alps) and west coast is temperate rainforest (3-6 metres of rainfall on west coast vs about 600mm on east, across the Great Divide). Westerly winds from the Tasman hit the Southern Alps and result in heavy rain on the West Caost- the winds are driven up over the alps and arrive here on the east coast as a hot dry Nor Wester. The South Island also gets cold winds, rain and snow from the Southern Ocean & Antarctica. As for names rather than the extremely original English names- North & South Islands- really, that's the best they could think of? Why not go with the Maori names for the main islands. South Island: Te Waipounamu. It is also called Te waka-o-maui (the waka of Maui). North Island- Te Ika-a-Māui (the fish of Maui)- If you look clos...

True. I could have what outsiders have named it and what the natives call it. It seems likely players of a setting will gravitate around a main name. I want to put my feelings frankly, because I feel like our hobby can do good work here. If the name is the European name, then that entrenches or recites a colonial narrative. I would love to see the Maori-inspired name as the primary name - the one on the cover. That said, it is your creative work and I don't have any right to dilute your vision. I hope you will take into consideration what I've raised.

So I have been thinking I want to create a group of races base on New Zealand native animals such as the Kiwi, Tui, Tuatara, Weta and more! Also in the future I would like to add in a new class, campaign and spells. I will be basing all the lore, races and places on the Maori culture of New Zealand. So if your keen to see more please like my Facebook page or my blog so I can keep you updated on future content. This 1st part will have a preview of the Tui race (A sub-race of the Aarakocra race in D&D 5e). So please show some interest and share!!. Link here: https://www.thecommandersalty.com/nz-races-homebrew-part1104048 It's a good idea albeit perhaps riff the name off Aotearoa. New Zealand is the colonial name for it after all: which feels at odds with the Maori cultural theme.

Hello South Island dweller!! Was thinking south island will be mostly alpine region :D We also have lots of plains, forests, dry areas etc. Central Otago was Rohan in LotR. I live in Dunedin its hilly here and wet.

Yeah replacing them all together is something I have considered and is worth implementing. Or humans and other common races (elves, half-lings etc) would be in the main cities/ports as new explorers and merchants, but would be very rare sights?. What you could do is reversed Darksun. Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Halflings exist as the common races but ocean world instead of desert. Metal can still be rare (NZ has some mining is really the problem). The Humans are either polynesian or +1 other displaced group, Elves in my settings are naval traders anyway, Dwarves could be in the volcanic areas. Or put them in offshore islands perhaps restricting them to Stewart Island. On this world they need protection.

Those are some really good ideas!! I really like the one about Taniwha being aquatic dragons! Yeah definitely have dinosaurs in there. I also had the idea about metals being quite rare and in this setting as the idea of Zelandia being a very very remote place (or plane). I think the ideas of humans either being the evil ones in this setting could be a really good idea as they hunt the bird races for food and sport? . Thank you kindly Zardnaar! Well you could have the bird races win. Are you gonna use the NZ map, a fantasy map or the Zealandia "continent" as most people won't recognise it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zealandia Being fantasy you could also do the whole living fossil thing. NZ is kinda old. 2 hour drive down the road. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curio_Bay

Kiwi will be done and im thinking they will be a hermit race that are blind, thoughts ?. Yeah gods won’t be exactly the same but I will be using Maori mythology as inspiration such as Tangaroa the god of the sea . Yeah sorry I meant the Aarakocra yes. You are correct!! Maybe a weta race as baddies ?Maybe also that katipo spider.
