About That_DM_Lady
About Me:
Long time D&D player, as my father was a dungeon master and taught us D&D at a young age. After playing on and off for years, I've been consistently playing with the same group for about 3 years. We have completed Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Curse of Strahd and are playing two homemade campaigns. I'm new to being a DM, and recently rain a few one shots, and have turned it into a monthly thing. Thank you for your patience with my questions. I am realizing how much you learn being a DM versus a player.

Welcome to the board, That_DM_Lady! Have some XP. The Starter Set adventure, Lost Mine of Phandelver, has a bandit headquarters where they are feeding the bodies of their victims to a Nothic. It's intelligent (if insane), so the PCs can converse with it and maybe even strike a bargain with it. Seems like a good choice if you want to have a social interaction aspect to this part of the story. On the other hand, if you mostly just want an explanation of what happens to the bodies, I agree that a gelatinous cube is hard to beat.

Running a one shot where the cultists dispose of corpses after ritualistic killing. I wanted to have a side room that is kind of their dump for said bodies, and was trying to decide what type of monster would be best. I'm thinking it needs to be either low intellect or loyal/something that can be controlled. Any suggestions would be appreciated! ..Would a gelatinous cube be dumb? You could adapt Larry Niven's ghouls from Ringworld for this problem. That was their ecological niche.

How does one transport a gelatinous cube? In case they ask how the cultists got it to a manor. I like the simplicity of having them open the door and there is just a big jelly in their face. But otyugh might be better from a story perspective since they are easier to transport. The cube is easy enough. Find one, then lay out a line of treats for it to eat that leads into the pit.

I LOVE this! It gives them the option to fight or negotiate. And I can make him particularly lazy if the party isn't doing well hp wise since it's at the end of the scenario. Thank you!Glad to help :)

You’d just have to build a shipping container out of a material the cube doesn’t corrode. Metal, stone, anything inorganic should work. Then add a rust monster or a gray ooze (transported in a wooden container) to clean up your victims’ metal equipment.
