  • 11:49 PM - gweinel mentioned CrusaderX in post D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)
It is my dream come true - mix of D&D 5e and The One Ring (Middle Earth)! The same goes for me! I would love to see in dnd terms rules for corruption. hope points, full fleshed travel rules, wide span of downtime and ofc as CrusaderX said a decent Ranger. Also to note that Francesco Nepitello is behind the game. I consider this great news since he is the one behind the rules of The One Ring. All i can say amazing news!

  • 04:33 PM - CapnZapp quoted CrusaderX in post hand use rules of D&D: object interaction, spellcasting focus and components
If the PHB spellcasting rules are thrown out the window (which I believe they should be), does that lessen the value of the War Caster feat? Should the War Caster feat be beefed up a bit to compensate? Depends on what you replace them with  In my case (see post #3) anyone except "divine casters" (Clerics, Paladins) need the feat to cast spells with a greatweapon or sword'n'board or dualwielding. Of course, now we're only talking about one out of three benefits of the feat. My players take the feat to gain advantage on Concentration checks even when they don't need benefit #2 (the somatic) and seldom use benefit #3 (spell opportunity attack). So the feat is probably okay regardless of what somatic rules you end up with.

  • 03:11 PM - Jester David quoted CrusaderX in post New Character Sheets are out, anyone seen what they look like?
I'm not very familiar with lulu. Is there a direct link to the 5e Basic rules that I can order? Or do I have to build my own and upload the pdf and cover myself? You have to build your own. But it's super simple. I mean, I've done it and could make my version non-private. But since there'd be no way WotC could know if I were selling at cost or making money, it'd be shut down. You choose the size of the paper (US letter) and the binding (perfect binding). You can go value or premium depending on how much you care about the paper quality. Download printer friendly versions of the documents from the WotC site, and throw those into Lulu. Drag and drop really. There are a number of online covers available, such as the one I linked to earlier. Choose than and upload. Give Lulu you $10 and shipping address and Bob's your uncle.

I really wish WotC would sell the 5e Basic rules as a printed product for purchase. I think I saw someone ask this of either Mearls or Crawford on Twitter, maybe it was even someone from this thread, and the blunt reply was roughly "They already are. They are called the PHB, DMG, and MM."

I really wish WotC would sell the 5e Basic rules as a printed product for purchase. The Basic Rules, like character sheets, are available free on their website. But the former is more unwieldy to print (and bind) for use than the latter. It's currently $8.50 on lulu.com for a softcover B+W book. (Plus shipping.) So, not really any more unwieldy than ordering something off Amazon. And handy people have already made covers: http://www.5mwd.com/archives/1766

  • 07:25 PM - Staffan quoted CrusaderX in post New Product: D&D ADVENTURE GRID
The D&D Grid looks nice. Has anyone yet tried the new Hexers game board? https://www.amazon.com/Hexers-roleplaying-game-board-alternative/dp/B06XFN6ZGD/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_til?tag=cross00d-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=89a2507f60d78afdcdb1b141dd847c6b&creativeASIN=B06XFN6ZGD No, but I've used Role 4 Initiative's Dungeon Tiles and been very happy with them. I haven't used them for long though so I don't know how durable they are.

  • 05:44 AM - THEMNGMNT quoted CrusaderX in post Mike Mearls' AMA Summary
James Wyatt wrote a cool sample adventure for the DMG that we couldn't include. Wish we had. I want this. Me, too! I think the DMG spent too many pages on the planes and not enough time on helping new (and old) DM's run great games. Solid starter adventures are worth their weight in gold.

  • 02:01 PM - CydKnight quoted CrusaderX in post What Are These Four Unnamed D&D Products?
A new Starter Set with an introductory module that is NOT set in the Forgotten Realms would be interesting.A new Starter Set (or any Starter Set for that matter), is not going to mean the same thing to an experienced player that it is to someone being introduced to the game for the first time. So while it may be interesting to an experienced player, it needs to be simple and easy to understand and more importantly make new players want more. The setting is really a secondary consideration at best after that.
  • 04:40 AM - Jester David quoted CrusaderX in post What Are These Four Unnamed D&D Products?
If they sold the 5e Basic Rules as a printed product, I wonder what the price would be? Would it be a $9.95 item? More? Less? The player Basic rules is 114 pages. That's be at least $30. I printed a black-and-white version of the books from Lulu for $7. Buying it in a store would be $35 or so. At the scale WotC can print it will be cheaper, which probably is enough to have colour. There is probably a middle ground... Hopefully they release a $25 non-book accessory and a $45 256-page hardcover.

Sweet! Thanks! I just bought the A1 document to see what it has. Will probably pick up the other 3 as well. Now, he just needs a conversion for A0 :) The following DM's Guild product suggests placing A1 in Skullport: http://www.dmsguild.com/product/193356/Classic-Modules-Today-A1-Slave-Pits-of-the-Undercity-5E

  • 02:31 PM - jagerfury quoted CrusaderX in post DM's Guild: What caught your eye, and why did you buy it?
And the folks at Classic Modules Today seem to have B3, Palace of the Silver Princess, in the queue for a 5e conversion soon. http://classicmodulestoday.com/ I would love to see conversion notes for all of the classic D&D and AD&D modules. 5e makes things easy to convert, but with these DMsGuild products, it is now even easier. The pdf also contains notes to place the module in The Forgotten Realms, so it does count as being FR content. The product is short but nicely done, and I plan on supporting this Classic Modules series for as long as they put them out. B3 has been available for some time now. We are up to about 30 1e modules converted at this point. More coming out each month!

  • 02:47 AM - ccs quoted CrusaderX in post What D&D Do You Want to Print on Demand?
Moldvay Basic Moldvay Expert B2 B4 X1 And many more I'm sure. But these are my Top 5 for now. If your paying for PoD copies of B2 & X1 you're likely paying too much. Being both the pack-in modules for Basic and Expert, + being sold individually for years, they aren't rare/obscure.

  • 06:03 PM - mrpopstar quoted CrusaderX in post Somatic and Verbal - Value Added?
An Eldritch Knight would still be stuck with shield juggling though, wouldn't he?Why's that? We could just as easily say something along the lines of: You must use verbal components and wield a weapon to cast your wizard spells. -- Note, I would prefer the eldritch knight not to have to wield a shield, so I don't view the juggling as a problem. I'm just making an example.

  • 07:39 PM - DEFCON 1 quoted CrusaderX in post Watch Chris Perkins' First Episode of DICE, CAMERA, ACTION
Pretty much. Comments on the YouTube channel said that Anna should tone down her roleplaying. Which is ridiculous. Anna doesn't need to tone it down, the other players need to step it up. Yeah, there's two different things about Anna's portrayal of the character that could be addressed, so we don't really know which side the comments might be talking about. First, there's the "character" itself in the roleplay-- extremely happy, extremely helpful, "Southern" voiced, rather naive, and pretty oblivious to the comments going on around her. Then there's the character's actions in the roleplay-- finding or coming upon situations or problems, and choosing to help the people involved just because the character is a good person. If the comments are complaining about the former, then sure I can kind of understand it because a lot of times people get annoyed with the Superman / goody-two-shoes type of character... we being a rather cynical society and all. I personally would rather see her...

  • 11:23 PM - One_Shots quoted CrusaderX in post Which feats would you change, why would you change them & how would you change them?
How about for Great Weapon Master and Sharpshooter, just replace the -5/+10 mechanic with a straight +2 to damage? I would actually consider that a bit worse than -5/+10. A flat bonus to damage would then make it an unquestionable must-have. At least with the -5 it creates a scenario where it is not always the best option for every attack. I rather like the +1 to Strength idea. It plays well with the requirement for Strength to wield a great weapon effectively and does not grant a flat bonus to damage, which are always very powerful.

You missed the most important bonus - PC's of various levels can be used together and still present risks to the higher level, without being unhurtable by the lower level. To a greater extent than usual, yes, though it's hardly ideal to have a large gap. While 5e doesn't scale checks, attacks or saves very quickly, it scales hps and damage quite dramatically, so a much lower-level character could be dropped or killed outright very easily. But, yes, he could participate as meaningfully as anyone else in overcoming any sort of problem that required ability checks. It's, again, reminiscent of the classic game, though for very different mechanical reasons: when exp charts were very different a new/low-level PC could rapidly catch up with the rest of the party, in 5e, Apprentice tier still does that to an extent, /and/ the new PC gets to participate in at least some of the adventuring activity. Something that apparently wasn't true in 4E, according to most accounts. (My 4E play was very limit...
