About Sketchpad
Introduction:
Game Designer, GM, Comic Fan, Illustrator and Graphic Designer
About Me:
Hi and thanks for stopping by my profile page! I've been gaming for a while and enjoy a variety of games, though I cut my teeth on D&D1e. Superhero games are my favorite, with science fiction being a close second. I run games for The Midnight Legion in Upstate New York, and have been the steady GM with them for about the last 18 years.
I also work as a game designer for Xion Studios and Sketchpad Studio (the latter being my own imprint). There, I work mainly on the Acts of Villainy and Acts of Heroism PDFs that are published for Mutants & Masterminds 3e's Superlink program. In the past, I've been fortunate enough to have worked with Green Ronin, Hero Games, Crafty Games, and Khepra Publushing.

I'd rather spend the $175 on new editions of Star Frontiers and Gamma World utilizing the 5e ruleset. Give me an SF Explorer's Handbook and Star Master's Guide, or a GW Gamma Master's Guide and Wastelander Handbook, any day. Until then, we have Esper Genesis by DM Guild Adept Rich Lescouflair. Good stuff and it's so compatible that if you can play a cleric you can run an Engineer but also with new races and stuff because, you know, 5e doesn't have starships. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/240798/Esper-Genesis-5E-Scifi---Core-Manual

I would have to disagree with Maher, Hurst, and Putnam. As an avid tabletop gamer/comic collector, I adult just fine. I'm married to a fellow gamer (whom I met via the old Wizards Community), have two kids that play games (who are 20-somethings), and spend time every week with a 10 person gaming group who also adult just fine. In addition, I know several people outside my group that are adulting gamers and/or comic readers. The insinuation is a bit insulting. Particularly when one could point to any fandom and make the same accusations. Maybe they should try to play a game or find a comic to read? You disagree with Maher, Hurst, and Putnam because even though 22% of men aged between 21 to 30 did not have any work in the last 12 months its Ok because you have a job?

Janx, that's not a bad start. M&M had used d6 when they gave optional dice rules. You could go that route. So something with a +8 damage would 8d6. ;) Thanks. Sounds like a reasonable approximation to D&D HP, AC and damage values will be sufficient. Considering it's just for my own campaign, I can fine tune any problems out if they come up.

Thanks, Janx and Sky. Hope it helps out everyone's campaigns. :) So, if I was going to use this, and didn't have Tru20 rules, are there any "close enough" rules for completing character generation I could use? Or stats for weapons (ex Phaser. 1d8 damage or Reflex Save to avoid stun) Basically, a poor man's adaptation to D&D d20 concepts, without lots of special rules differences to play Trek with D&D rules. Not knowing the HP scale, I'm thinking 8 HP for 1st level PCs + con bonus, and +5 HP per level after (plus con bonus). Modern/sci-fi d20 games seem to like slower HP progression, so I see no reason not to emulate that. Which for me, mostly means, the expected HP scale, AC /armor (does everybody have AC10 forever?). and equipment for killing each other, i mean NPCs.

Just need to go to the source. Keep in mind, this is the last version I worked on and has some errors here and there. I haven't worked on it since I used it, as we're playing different stuff in my group these days. Enjoy!
