The Mystic in my game was overpowered... and quite literally outclassed every other class in the game. Looking forward to whatever the next iteration is.

You are both forgetting that this thread is not, ultimately, about what an individual DM allows in his or her game. This is about what should or should not be published in the official 5th edition PH. Which is why understanding both sides of the argument is more important than you are willing to accept. I'm not trying to persuade you to accept the other position - I'm trying to get you to understand what the other position is. But Lalato doesn't want us to talk about this any more.

None of those are chaotic principles (indeed, the very idea of "principles" is inherently lawful). That sounds like a LG paladin to me. And any paladin in my game that did NOT uphold those principles would lose their powers. That sounds like a Good (any ethos) cleric to me. The point of the paladin (according to the multi-edition fluff) is that they have innate divine abilities from their devotion to The Cause, whatever it may be. Which again devolves into another discussion of "What does each alignment even mean?", which then means players at the same table can have completely different takes on whether a character can actually be a paladin or not. I mean, the character Halivar just described as LG was the character Lalato used as a paragon of CG! That leads to a situation where Halivar comes to the table with a cool idea for a paladin who fights off the scourge of tyranny and frees oppressed slaves, and Lalato says "Sorry, man, that's a chaotic character, can't be a paladin". (Not that I think Lalato actually runs that way, this is purely hypothetical.) To my mind, I'd restrict the paladin to any good and LN. Gives the idea that the paladin is supposed to be a champion of civilization and the common folk, but allows for some freedom as to how the player might want to express it.

You could go with something entirely mundane... like the cultists keep a good sized pig pen and just feed the corpses to the pigs. Ahem. https://memegenerator.net/img/instances/56659397/never-trust-a-man-with-a-pig-farm.jpg

Do you have this codified anywhere in a document? If it's in a shareable state, I wouldn't mind taking a gander. Sorry, I am working on that. There are still things I would like to work out. However, Talislanta is a free download from their site and there is the chummer 5 free download software that is a Shadowrun character builder. If you look at these you will have a fair idea of what I am working towards. I will try to summarize for you. Each background takes a certain amount of time (ages your character a number of years). Each background gives you three skill points to spend on a set of skills per year in the background. A background does not have to be completed, you can leave it early, however doing so may prevent you from going to an advanced background and causes a loss of benefits for completing the background. One friend calls this the Star Wars Saga tree? Example: Apprentice magician takes seven years, grants 21 skill points for the magic skill group, allows yo...

The first time your character dies during creation... it's shocking. :) I have not played or seen the system, but have heard much about it. Do you actually get to make choices during this, or is it just random die rolls? I could see an option where you could choose to make a risky roll with a high benefit that might lead to death, but randomly rolling before the first session only to have to start over again seems fairly pointless.

My 8 year old godson is getting into D&D. Which of these podcasts might be suitable for younglings? Of these? Not sure but High Rollers is fairly kid friendly most of the time.........actually scratch that...a 12 year old would be ok, 8 not so much. There must be a Hero Kids podcast out there somewhere... I really want to say Critical Role and Venture Maidens but thats a big nope for an 8 year old. :)

How did you go about it? I didn't see anything specific to this, but it's very possible that I'm being obtuse. The custom tab has an area that allows you to add a custom subclass. Unfortunately, there isn't an area to add custom Eldritch Invocations.

Has anyone tried to add a custom Warlock Patron to the sheet? I added "The Hexblade" patron from the "Unearthed Arcana - Warlock & Wizard". Why?

I finally made the switch to the 2.0 beta. Is there now a way to add the bonus from a Luckstone to the Ability Score modifiers? I know I can add the bonus directly to Saving Throws and Skills. I would adjust +1 to saves, +1 to initiative, +1 to all skills on the Start sheet, add an Additional Ability Feature "+1 to ability checks and saving throws [Luckstone]" on the Start sheet

I finally made the switch to the 2.0 beta. Is there now a way to add the bonus from a Luckstone to the Ability Score modifiers? I know I can add the bonus directly to Saving Throws and Skills. No magic item other than the most basic ones are directly supported. (A potion of healing, for example, needs nothing other than an entry in the inventory.) The Stone of Good Luck (luckstone), despite its short DMG description, is one of the harder items to manually represent because it affects all ability score checks and 5e D&D is all about ability score checks! Saving Throws are ability score checks. Skill checks are ability score checks. Combat (melee/ranged/spell) checks are ability score checks. Even passive score checks are ability score checks. The "Luckstone" basically modifies everything!

Finally decided to try out the 2.00 Beta. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get very far with it. I entered Ability Scores. Then entered a number of XP (140,000). Then Excel crashes. The next time I open it I get that far, then select my class (Bard). Then I enter HP. Then Excel crashes. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. It's crashed a few times now and I'm not quite sure what's up. No such issues with 1.64. Recommend to try checking for Excel updates, for Office 365 go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now

I'm trying to figure out a way to add the bonuses conferred from a Luckstone to my character. I see that I can add a bonus to Saving Throws on the "Start" tab. I need to figure out a way to add the bonus to ability checks and skills without also adding it to attacks. Any ideas on how I might do that? You can get half a step further on Start by putting +1s for all of your Skill checks. down in section 4. But that wouldn't affect your straight ability check bonus, you'd just have to remember it's 1 higher.

Any interest in a D&D Musical? I'm think that the producers of the TV show Galavant could do a really fun D&D movie with song and dance numbers that would delight both young and old. ;) I'm ready, and I think my past resume speaks for itself. Imagine a Katy Perry lookalike, flanked by a pair of dancing bulettes, singing: "Charm Monster" This was never the way I planned Not my intention I got so brave, staff in hand Lost my discretion It's not what I'm used to Just wanna try it on I'm curious for it Caught my attention I kissed a Grell and I liked it The beak tastes like bloody meatsticks I kissed a Grell just to try it I hope my consort don't mind it It felt so wrong It felt so right Don't mean I'm in love tonight I kissed a Grell and I liked it I liked it No, I don't even know your name It doesn't matter, You're my experimental game Just human nature, It's not what, Druids do Not how they should behave My head gets so confused Hard to obey I kissed...

Wait. I changed my mind. The D&D movie should be a musical. ;) Dungeons & Dragons: Underdark Story "When you're a Drow, You're a Drow all the way From your first jet black cowl To your last dyin' day. When you're a Drow, If your butt hits the pan, You got brothers around, You're a family man! You're never alone, You're never disconnected! Always the stalagmites growing, Always the fungi are glowing . . . The Underdark . . . You dangerous land . . . A land of mythic diseases. Always the fungal spores blowing, Always the population growing . . . And the money owing, And the servants crying, And the doom bats flying. I like where people can fatten. • 02:55 PM - Majoru Oakheart quoted Lalato in post Wizards not taking Gencon seriously?
Just wanted to add that Baldman Games has been running the games at GenCon and Winter Fantasy for years. I'm surprised to hear there were issues with Baldman running things. I've been to both conventions with games run by Baldman. I gave them good scores all around... so maybe this year was an off year? As for WotC not having a booth... this has been par for the course for some time now. If I was at GenCon would I want to see a cool D&D booth? Sure! Does it ruin my convention if it's not there. Nope! From what I can tell is that the issues that happened this year are 3 fold and compounded on one another: 1. WOTC didn't bring any monetary support this year at all. Last year they didn't have a booth(except for a small one selling T-shirts and novels inside the D&D gaming area) but they brought some decorations with them to make the gaming area look nicer. Plus they contributed some money(I gather..not confirmed) to pay for the gaming space. They also donated books as prize sup...

  • 09:10 PM - evilbob quoted Lalato in post transporting a large, unwilling creature
Homebrew a version of sleep as a ritual that requires more than one caster. It will knock a creature out for a day. Ok, here's my idea: A special version of "sleep" called "Wynken's Slumber Party" - a ritual that takes 10 minutes to cast and lasts for 24 hours - requires at least 3 and as many as 5 people - each participant must use a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level spell slot / points - each participant contributes 5d8, 7d8, or 9d8 (as the sleep spell) total "hit points" toward the spell So, each party member chips in some resources, and there's a chance to fail - which will cause the dragon to wake up and they'll have to fight it again! The dragon has 133 HP fully healed and the entire party can cast (hence the tailoring to the party's strengths) so it gives them a good chance to keep it down but a slight chance of failure.
  • 08:54 PM - evilbob quoted Lalato in post transporting a large, unwilling creature
Would it be possible to turn the dragon to stone and then turn it back upon arrival? The 6th spell level Flesh to Stone is the lowest I could find - also it lasts 1 minute. Prismatic spray could also do it, but it's super random to say the least. Enchantment specialist wizard's Hypnotic Gaze and a lot of caffeine. As long as he continues to use his action, he can keep that puppy going forever... Maybe if you hired a cadre of 3rd level enchanters... Depending on the Dragon's Wis Save, something as simple as a Bestow Curse spell could incapacitate a Dragon or facilitate its incapacitation by imposing Disadvantage on specific saves. When cast as a 5th level spell there is no more Concentration and increases the duration. It can be cast multiple times to really shut down a monster. One Remove Curse spell will remove all of the Curses. It has a terrible Wis save (+0) but getting a 5th level scroll would be hard enough, and that only lasts 8 hrs. Still, it could help make the creat...
