RPG-ish Boardgames

Can anyone recommend a good board game with an RPG flavor or websites discussing the same? I've played Talisman and liked it...I'm thinking of the Warcraft boardgame as well, but haven't heard muych about it (it looks great anyway). It's hard to get my circle of friends and family into a true-RPG, but Talisman scratched the itch a bit and worked well for them as well, so I'm looking for others out there.

Betrayal at the House on the Hill is an excellent "board-RPG".

The Warcraft boardgame is a war game, not like Talisman at all.

Fantasy Flight

Actually, all 3 FF games just recommended appealed to me at first glance (read "the box looked COOL!). Between Warcraft, Descent and Runebound, which one would be best for playing with an 8 yearold while trying to get an RPG type feel? Leveling involved? Aquiring artifacts...that kind of stuff.

You can Role-Play Monopoly if you really wanted to. However, I think you really mean Fantasy boardgames, not RPG boardgames. But you might try Fantasy Flight Games' website. They sell a couple RPG-ish boardgames.

And for all things boardgame on the Internet, the first place to go is www.boardgamegeek.com.

HeroQuest is a good middle ground, though I'm pretty sure its out of print.

The "basic" D&D game (i.e. the most recent boxed set thing) is very board-oriented, though perhaps a bit more RPG than boardgame.

Descent (FFG) is a great game that turns the dungeon-crawling experience into a boardgame. I very much recommend it. The tiles are also in 1" squares, allowing their use in D&D sessions - as I've done recently. It's for 2-5 players.

World of Warcraft Board Game (FFG) is also quite good, although it's really one of those games for 4 or 6 players. You can see a recent session report I wrote about it here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/114117

For an 8 year old, I'd strongly recommend Descent over World of Warcraft. My friend Sarah was given it for her birthday, so I'll be able to give you a review of it soon.

Here's the boardgamegeek pages for the three games, which are well worth checking out:
World of Warcraft board game - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/17223
Descent - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/22361
Runebound - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/21523

Cheers!
