One other thing you could do with it: you could have the spell abused by an evil gnome cleric torturer...(might have to be a lich to extend his lifespan and make this plausible)
He could capture many young children (so that they will have fewer memories), torture them and make them miserable for their entire lives, and then sell the ashes as a (short-lasting) "poison" in order to force the eater to experience a pain-filled memory...or just to use on new prisoners as a taste of what lies ahead...
This would not really be practical, but who said villains are?
