The spirits, having returned momentarily to the fountain, swim up pushing their faces and webbed hands up close to the surface. The strain of doing so seems plain and obvious. In a watery accent they speak in unison. "Soryth bound us to bar passage to all until day conquers night and rocks teach birds to sing."

The effort to communicate with you becomes too much and the spirits swim away, returning to their play inside the strange water fall elevator.

It seems the heroes will need to explore the other areas of the palace and solve another riddle.

The party opens the door behind which the clear sounds of birds squawking can be heard. A fine bed, plush couches, and ornate wooden furniture are only some of the wonders of this luxurious bedroom. Upon the floor, a mosaic depicts the cycle of the seasons. High above, in a transparent dome, song birds sit upon gilded perches, each bird squawking instead of singing. Covering the back wall, an enormous tapestry portrays Porpherio and Caerwyn standing in front of a crystal in a glade. Around the couple are creatures from the world and the Feywild, from stags and lions to unicorns and owlbears. All the creatures have their heads raised and their mouths open, as if joining in a shared song.

[sblock=Arcana DC 13] The birds are magical in nature, perhaps constructs or very realistic illusions. [/sblock]
[sblock=Nature DC 13] None of these birds is singing. They all just squawk unnaturally. [/sblock]

Rain looked around the domed bedchamber, searching for magical effects. She was somewhat surprised to announce that, "These birds aren't alive in the natural sense of things. They may be illusory or even automata."

[sblock=skill check]Arcana check in the bird chamber = 20. [/sblock]

Sabynha looked about, and her face lit up suddenly in a smile, "I think I know what to do..."

She walked boldly into the centre of the chamber. She then did her best to remember the song of the crystals, and tried to emulate it with her voice, singing a syllabic tune.

OOC: Two things came to mind here; that bizarre operatic scene in the Fifth Element, and also a band called Van Canto.

Wat stood back and admired Sabynha's song. He two had a way of causing crystal to ring though he ways were much more violent than the bards.

OOC: Not sure if there is something I can roll to see what effect Sabynha's song is having.

Pfft. Average. Only 29. ;)[/sblock]
Sabynha was inspired by Wat's presence; she could feel him watching. She was also determined not to mess this up. Though the song was difficult to replicate with the humanoid voice, she also called upon her connection to the feywild through her ancestry and her understanding of bardic magic to make her voice do things that it normally wouldn't.

One by one, the birds began to harmonize with her, until she had them all in sync. When done, she stopped to catch her breath, and take a long drink from her waterskin.

From the chaotic squawking emerges a rippling, soothing sound of birds chirping in harmony. The group make a search of the room and find a pair of red gauntlets which Sir Flibbertigibbet pounces upon, shrinking them down size.

They make there way to the other bedroom, carefully opening the door. Scents of brimstone and burned wood waft from the open door, and the room contains gloom that light from the hall can't brighten. Fine furnishings here-a desk, bookcases, and more-are all charred or smashed. On the floor, a soot stain and dark arcane runes eclipse a mosaic of the sun. A tapestry, depicting Porpherio and Caerwyn dressed in wedding attire infront of this palace, covers the back wall. The domed ceiling glitters like the night sky.

[sblock=Arcana (DC 13)] The runes here are the cause of the darkness and brimstone smell in this room. They can be undone, but care must be taken to clean the mosaic off. [/sblock]
[sblock=Heal (DC 13)]: The runes are written in blood. [/sblock]
[sblock=Religion (DC 21):] The magic used here is diabolical in nature, so divine energy is the best to counter it. [/sblock]

"Well, we need to get these runes cleaned up."

Wat attempts to clear the air a bit before he gets to cleaning the mosaic. He summons a gust of wind to get the air moving out of the room.

"Unless I stand here and air out the room for the rest of eternity, I won't be doing much good, the smell will come back. Those runes are made with blood, so we need something that will clean bloodstains without damaging the mosaic underneath."
