Shadows of Yog-Sothoth? Other adventures?

I finally got my group to try Call of Cthulhu, (they tend to be weary of different games ever since the "Mutants & Masterminds Incident") and they liked it so much interest was expressed in me running the game longer term.

So, I was thinking of running Shadows of Yog-Sothoth, since it sounded the most fun of the 6th edition adventures I found. But then the internet starts telling me that there isn't that much difference between the 2nd through 6th editions. And if that's true I've got a lot more options available. So if anyone has an idea how much edition really matters for an adventure, I'd love to know.

Also, as I assume this will come up anyway. I'm totally open to suggestions if you think there's a significantly better adventure I should be running. (first or third party)

You can use any CoC adventure ever printed with 6th edition rules. It matters not one jot.

The most celebrated (and famous) is Masks of Nyarlathotep, although Shadows of Yog-Sothoth is still a fair starting point. There are different eras to play in however, so if you prefer a different historical setting or modern day it's worth knowing before you start choosing a campaign to play.

When I get home I'll check my fourth (or is it 5th?) edition rulebook for the name of the really good adventure in that, hopefully it is in the back of the 6th Edition rulebook as well.

I crit!
The 'Red Eye of Azathoth' from Open Design is pretty cool. I haven't had a chance to run it yet. I was a patron for it a few years ago.

You play characters that get reincarnated throughout history to fight against the evil caused by the comet the 'Red Eye of Azathoth'.

Also there are the more pulp like ones from Goodman Games

Then there are the ones from Super Genius Games

I must admit I haven't even read Shadows or Masks or even On the Orient or Mountains (the adventures). But I really want to some day.

Home now.... I highly recommend running The Edge of Darkneas which was in the back of the 5th Edition rules and hopefully the 6th as well. It has all the classic CoC tropes, haunted house, newspaper clippings, a journal, a ritual, occult book, hieroglyphs and ofcourse a monster!

It is reasonably short and gives an good taste of what CoC is all about, if they like that then move on to one of the more epic campaigns.
