[WOIN] Building A Universe Previews; Plus Other WOIN News

Layout on [WOIN] Building A Universe is nearing completion. You can see some sample pages below (see if you can spot the amusing autocorrect error changing the meaning of a sentence quite profoundly - don't worry, it'll be fixed!) As well as appearing as an independent softcover book in its own right, this is the final chapter in the compiled future-themed WOIN hardcover, NEW, and that means that the first hardcover is not far away and you can launch your sci-fi campaign exploring the final frontiers of galaxies far, far away!

I grabbed these images from my iPad, so please ignore the iOS stuff round the edges!

[h=4]What else is going on with WOIN?[/h]
Kickstarter shipping surveys have started going out. I'm doing them in batches so as to make the job easier, so if you haven't gotten yours yet, don't worry. For the moment it's mainly people who will be getting a hardcover copy of NEW, as that's the first of the hardcovers off the presses. While I'm not giving an exact date, the expected process is:

  1. Finish layout of this last section of Building A Universe and release as softcover/PDF.
  2. Final errata run through all the existing Future books (Future Careers, Future Equipment, Future Core, Space, Building A Universe).
  3. Compile those into the final hardcover and begin the printing/shipping process.

In the meantime, work is simultaneously taking place on Fantasy Core, which will be joining Fantasy Careers and Fantasy Equipment in softcover and PDF format very soon. This one is done - it's just having a last proofing pass before release, so expect that imminently. There are some samples below. After that, layout starts on Elements of Magic, and then on Wilderness & Strongholds, which will complete the OLD hardcover.

For this interested in tracking progress on various books, there's a tracking page on the official website here. It shows what's available, what's in layout, etc. There are 7 books out so far, with these two (Building A Universe and Fantasy Core) taking it up to 9 very soon!

Finally, if you have any of the [WOIN] Fantasy books (Fantasy Careers, Fantasy Equipment) and have been using the online rules on the official website to play the game, there's a free adventure you can playtest. It's called The Haunting Of Calrow Ruins, and you'll find it here. Oh, and Aaron Infante-Levy, we've been trying to contact you without much luck. Please get in touch - I'd like to pay you some more money!

I recently grabbed the four SF books in print and now have a vested interest in WOIN....I really like the system, very much looking forward to Building A Universe now.

I really like this sort of thing. How much content like that that doesn't rely on the system will be available? (As I would generally use different system for my sci-fi.) It looks like I could get Building a Universe and most or all of it would work with any system. Are any of the other softcover books similar? If there is a lot of cool stuff like throughout I might just get the whole hardcover.

The other books aren't really suitable for non-WOIN use. Future Careers is WOIN character creation, Space is the WOIN starship combat and space travel rules, etc. Building a Universe is about 60% usable in other systems - a star system is transferable, but the rules for designing careers, monsters, NPCs, and so on probably aren't very useful outside WOIN. The sections on setting design advice, lists of sample exotic events and locations and other ideas are all transferable.

Morrus, On the website, it might help to list the last updated dated when files have been updated or added. I have so many duplicate copies because I wasn't sure when changes had last been made.

Does RPGNow/DTRPG not track that stuff? I pretty much rely on the site for notifications and updated libraries. Any time a file is updated, I select the option to notify all customers and update their libraries.
