Taylar rubs a thumb along the edge of the new iron ring on his club.
"Let's see how well this thing cracks spiders."
GM: A spider hidden among the grasses left of Maka and Raven Elk, hops up and moves toward Taylar at a rapid pace, but its element of surprise is wasted, anyway, as it has to close the distance to engage.

OOC: Taylar: 11(fury) + 20(lethality) + 23(attack) + 74(d100) = 128
Spider: 13(defense) + 27(defend) + 75(d100) = 115
Damage: 128 - 115 = 13% * 30 = 4
Mind: 7 - 4 = 3: dazed

GM: Taylar smacks the incoming spider, hard enough to daze it, but not enough to prevent its attack.

OOC: Spider: 27(lethality) + 22(attack) + 75(d100) - 40(daze) = 84
Taylar: 8(konokoro) + 9(defense) + 21(defend) + 75(d100) = 113

GM: Taylar easily defends.

GM: The last remaining spiders launches itself at Vittero from its hidden position on the party's left flank.

OOC: Spider: 27(lethality) + 22(attack) + 75(d100) = 124
Vittero: 10(konokoro) + 14(defense) + 74(d100) = 98
Damage: 124 - 98 = 26% * 3 = 1 - 1(deflect) = 0

GM: The spider is unable to sink its fangs through Vittero's wool tunic. In a new approach to manipulating Way when the spider lands on him, Vittero causes it to heat, unnaturally.

OOC: Heat:
Range: Touch
Affect: Confluence + Will
Effectiveness:

  • Essence + Confluence +
  • Mind + Knowledge + Will +
  • Collegiate
By actively manipulating Way, this causes the intended target to heat unnaturally, thereby causing harm (loss of Body). This can also be used to start a fire if applied to naturally flammable substances.
Vittero: 27(heat) + 74(d100) = 101
Resist Heat:

  • Conditioning (Commercial Task) +
  • Bolster (Collegiate Task)
  • Insulate (post-Collegiate Task)
Spider: 15(conditioning) + 75(d100) = 90
Damage: 101 - 90 = 11% * 11 = 1
Body: 9 - 1 = 8

GM: Sadly, the heat is not nearly as effective as he had hoped.

OOC: This concludes the first combat sequence. I need new 1d100 for all characters.

Raven Elk, with well-practiced movement, learned with playing war games or hunting games with these very friends he now battled a real threat with, follows the spider that attacked him, tracking and maneuvering to get a bead on the 8-legged creature and take a stab at it's abdomen before it can turn and face him for another attack.

OOC: Sequencing:
  • Impetus (Collegiate Task) +
  • Body + Motility +
  • Mind + Knowledge +
  • Commercial
This passive technique is used to determine the initial reaction time with regard to combat. A single combat sequence comprises all actions possible in ONE SECOND of time, which is divided into 100 equal parts called tics. Not all characters will be able to act in the first second, especially when using slow weapons.
Raven Elk: 13(Impetus) + 20(Sequence) + 99(d100) - 32(armor) - 50(weapon) = 50
Maka: 11(Impetus) + 21(Sequence) + 91(d100) - 30(armor) - 50(weapon) = 43
Vittero: 10(Impetus) + 22(Sequence) + 97(d100) - 32(armor) - 100(way) = -3
Taylar: 9(Impetus) + 20(Sequence) + 94(d100) - 36(armor) - 100(weapon) = -13
Adisakti: 10(Impetus) + 19(Sequence) + 81(d100) - 36(armor) - 50(weapon) = 24
Spiders: 21(Sequence) + 75(d100) - 20(bite) = 76

OOC: Spiders: 21(Sequence) + 75(d100) - 20(bite) = 76 - 30(daze)

Raven Elk, with well-practiced movement, learned with playing war games or hunting games with these very friends he now battled a real threat with, follows the spider that attacked him, tracking and maneuvering to get a bead on the 8-legged creature and take a stab at it's abdomen before it can turn and face him for another attack.
GM: With well calculated hopes, Raven Elk is able to anticipate the yellowish-brown hunting spider as it bounces back and turns due to the fact that it has already been struck.

OOC: Raven Elk: 15(fury) + 20(lethal) + 20(attack) + 99(d100) + 77(luck) = 231
Spider: 10(defense) + 75(d100) = 85
Damage: 231 - 85 = 146% * 20 = 29 - 8(deflect) = 21
Body: 9 - 21 = -12: incapacitated
Mind: 3 - 12 = -9: dead

GM: Raven Elk catches the spider with a might thrust, cracking its carapace and severing the abdomen, killing it.

Technical Post

OOC: Manipulating Way:
The concept of manipulating Way is a bit different than the classic concept of magic, which was derived from the idea of turning lead into gold. It is culturally ancient in concept, owing to the belief in primal powers and petty gods.

There is absolutely nothing about manipulating Way that the player characters do not already know. The talent is completely instinctual and requires no instruction, training, or guidance. All PCs know everything that they are able to do at any given moment, to the limit of their current skill ranking.

There is no mystery, no hidden secret, and no need for discovery. Any Player question is simply a technical matter and can be directed toward the GM as an OOC comment, PM, or LINE query. If an In Character dialogue is desired as a means of generating XP, questions should be directed toward Vittero. The purpose of this GM character is to provide examples and clarify questions concerning scholastic or social tasks.

Friendly NPCs who have the ability to manipulate Way will almost always be static in nature and limited to a single talent. Though they can be engaged in role play, they cannot be taught new talents. Hostile NPCs who have the gift are meant to challenge the PCs in a full gambit of talents commensurate to the PCs ranking.

OOC: Plot:
Every campaign is designed in such a manner as to require the PCs to be champions, heroes, or saviors. No campaign will be created to provoke PCs to be selfish, petty, or criminal. This does not, however, discourage personal gain or the acquisition of wealth, as those concepts are always subplots.

The purpose of the Outpost is simply to allow for game familiarity and preliminary character development. An actual plot will be provided at the start of the actual campaign at the conclusion of The Outpost scenario.

Maka tries to hit the spider in the head, still using his bow as a club, aiming for its primary row of eyes, in hopes of blinding and/or stunning it.
OOC: Maka: 11(Impetus) + 21(Sequence) + 91(d100) - 30(armor) - 50(weapon) = 43
Spider: 21(Sequence) + 75(d100) - 20(bite) = 76 - 40(daze) = 36

GM: Maka finds that having dazed the spider with his previous strike, he is able to react before it, this time.

OOC: Maka: 11(fury) + 21(lethal) + 22(attack) + 91(d100) = 145
Spider: 9(defense) + 75(d100) = 84
Damage: 145 - 84 = 61% * 10 = 6
Mind: 3 - 6 = -3: unconcious
Body: 9 - 3 = 6: hurt

GM: The effectiveness of Maka's second strike is such that he is able to render the spider defenseless.

Similar to his strategy with the beetles, Taylar will swing his weapon looking to smack his spider and lift it off it's feet. He considers letting one bite him to help him gain an immunity to any venom they might possess, but then decides he can glean venom from them after they're dead.
