Days 262 - 264: During Travel

During the traveling Taylar will search for ores and minerals using the inventory for conduits.
[sblock=Prospecting]Effectiveness: Mind + Knowledge + Commercial

This active task is applied to the search for usable metal or stone. The results of the effectiveness are determined by terrain and availability of material. The base score without the addition of the random roll represents the passive knowledge to notice the presence of an ore or mineral or the tendency of the area to contain such. A minimum rank of 50 is need to passively notice the most base mineral, which is slate, and a minimum rank of 60 is needed to passively notice the most base ore, which is zinc. The addition of the random roll represents an active search. For those who can manipulate Way, holding a piece of the desired material while making an active search, increases the total score by 100. Also the total effectiveness may be augmented by the passive Collegiate technique of Konokoro. Success is determined by meeting or exceeding the predetermined rank requirements of the Minerals and Ores Availability Tables.
Check: effectiveness + Konokoro (Collegiate) + d100
Taylar: 22 + 18 + 50 = 90[/sblock]
GM: Though a conifer forest is not naturally a good location for the collection of ore or stone, Taylar manages to locate 1 Bloodstone and 1 Sunstone but no metal.

Raven Elk found the lack of encounters refreshing after the bear. He felt relaxed and ready for what may come next. He did find the sound of the waves very relaxing, and it helped in his meditations and his concentrations on the fluctuations of Way Lines.
GM: The breeze coming off the ocean is almost constant. It is often quite strong and carries with it the scent of fish and seaweed.

During the days' travel, Maka will hunt for game. Adisakti will accompany Maka and forage for useful plants.
Vittero will take the opposite flank as Maka to, also, hunt for game.
[sblock=Hunting]Effectiveness: Mind + Knowledge + Commercial

This active task is applied to finding and identifying animals or people by their passage. The specificity of the information known is determined by the rarity of the creature. The base score without the addition of the random roll represents the passive knowledge to notice the presence of other creatures or the tendency of the area to contain such. The addition of the random roll represents an active search. Success is determined by meeting or exceeding the predetermined rank requirements of the Encounter Table, found under the Denizens of TUW section.
Check: Effectiveness + Empathy (Collegiate) + d100
Maka: 27 + 19 + 50 = 96
Vittero: 23 + 23 + 50 = 96[/sblock]
GM: Maka and Vittero are each able to be productive at hunting, though the collected game is a bit small in size. They each collect plenty of Harvesters, Rabbits, and Rodents to supplement the dried bear meat.

[sblock=Forage]Effectiveness: Mind + Knowledge + Commercial

This active task is used to locate usable plants within the area, whether medicinal or edible or toxic. The effectiveness without the addition of the random roll represents the passive ability to recognize useful plants in the vicinity. Also, the effectiveness of this task may be augmented by the passive Collegiate technique of Konokoro.
Check: Effectiveness + Konokoro (Collegiate) + d100
Adisakti: 20 + 15 + 50 = 85[/sblock]
GM: A conifer forest is not the best geographic location to forage for usable plants, but Adisakti is able to once find a vine whose root is edible, though he only locates enough for himself.

Days 265 - 268:
Since the crew has reached the coast, it is decided to turn southward, following it until somewhere recognizable is reached. After 4 more days of journey, the coast turns inland and the crew travels more in an easterly direction. As they near what should have been a small fishing village, they see the burned husks of residences and the smell of the smoke still hangs in the air. Some people, mostly elderly, wander around aimlessly.

Maka says, "This village has been raided. Quickly, my friends, we must talk to one of the survivors, to discover what happened."

Maka approaches one of the elderly villagers who is wandering around aimlessly. But he already has a sneaking suspicion of what has happened. His father had told him of this long ago; when raiders come to conquer a land, they sometimes take young men by force, forcefully inscripting them into their armies. It is Maka's hope that his gut feeling is wrong. But he has a horrible, nagging feeling that he is not.

While Maka questions the survivors, Taylar will search the area in and around the village. Any food or valuables, he finds he will give to the remaining people. He will also look for signs of who attacked and how they did it.

Day 268: A Burned Village

...Maka approaches one of the elderly villagers...
While Maka questions the survivors, Taylar will search the area...
Raven Elk works with Taylar, helping where he can, and asking who did this.
The remaining villagers appear to be of the Markidian tribe, which is the common Aedaman tribe of the region; therefore being Markidian himself, Vittero accompanies Maka to inquire of the villagers. Adisakti goes with Taylar and Raven Elk.

Before the others can even begin to search the area, Vittero calls to them. "You need to all come hear this for yourself."

A haggard, elderly man who identifies himself as Jean begin in the middle of a thought. "They left, maybe, an hour ago. It was soldiers from the King that did this. Some priest with them, who kept his face covered, was in charge. He gave the commands. His voice sounded young. He was spouting garbage about the heresy of our false belief must be cleansed with fire. The killed our healer and anyone who resisted, which was most of the young men. They took some older children with them when they departed.

The worst part is they took our town healer and burned her alive! It was sick, I tell you. Sick!

Soldiers of the Light of the World. Hogwash! Sadistic butchers is what they are

Maka's countenance falls, as his mood darkens, "The king's soldiers did this? They killed the young men, simply for their beliefs? Vittero, do you think your father knows anything about this?"

Maka pauses for a moment to collect his wits, "We need to track these soldiers, and intercept them before they can strike again. Then we should warn The Rheini about this, my people will surely be targeted for their beliefs."

Waynan

Raven Elk's countenance darkens at this news. He says to his friends, "Brothers, let's catch up to these villains and make them answer for their crimes against the people."

He turns toward the direction the slayers of innocents have gone. "I cannot believe, however, that the king would decree such a thing from what I've heard of him. Hard he is, but this? No, there may be more to this that even the king is unawares."

Raven Elk then begins to purposefully stride after the kingsmen and will not be deterred.
