Miss Imogen's arms are tired from the poling she has done, navigating the raft. It's as she is resting that the summons comes, and Chrysagon's alert attention provides the summons to action.

"On it," she says, curtly.

She rises to one knee, not wanting to stand fully on the unsteady raft, but wanting to take advantage of the full draw of her bow, and she quickly releases two shafts towards the floating mound.

One appears to connect, while the other splashes fruitlessly in the water.

"What is that thing?" she asks, as she steps onto the river bank.

Chrysagon jumps on the firm ground and ask for the blessing of Kelemvor. Ubtao doesn't seem so inclined to help today.

OOC: Chrys casts Bless on Imogen, Delrak and Ancalagon

Ancalagon

Dusty Dragon
Rodrigo had been thinking about "harb" 's revelation. To be an orphan was hard enough, but to have no name, by choice... he didn't understand.

The strange creature snapped him out of his considerations. "What is that?! To the island!"

He wasn't sure if it was foe, but he wanted to be on firmer land .

Legend
Imogen & Harb vs Shambling Mound

As the rafts bumped into shore, nearly everyone piled out, leaving Kasqa and Hup'lo to balance their respective craft. Miss Imogen had fired two arrows at the moving mound of vines, grass, and mud. One appeared to stick in before the creature disappeared from view, going deep into the water of the swamp. Only the ripples across the surface of the swamp indicated that it had ever been there. The nameless man had thrown a dart, but it was too late, and it harmlessly sank into the water.

Qawasha & Weed

"I have heard of such creatures," said Qawasha in answer to Imogen's question, "It is a Shambling Mound. A carnivorous plant that moves much like a beast. Very dangerous. It is hunting us. Be wary!"

He waved his staff and covered his body in a bark-like armour. His staff itself formed spikes, and a heavy mace-like club at the end. Weed followed Miss Imogen, and found himself a place to hide in the underbrush on the north-end of the little island.

Chrysagon vs Assassin Vine!

Chrysagon left the raft and prayed for the blessing of Kelemvor to see them through. He had only just finished the prayer when vines that were growing across the muddy turf suddenly reached out and wrapped around him. As he struggled to get them off, more vines wrapped him up, tightly squashing the air from his lungs. Sharp barbs cut through his armour and he could feel a burning sensation in his blood. His vision blurred.

"This is something else!" called Qawasha as he moved to help, "Killer Assassin Vine!"

GM: The Mound requires a dc18 Perception (Search Action) to spot. It's pretty much gone ATM.

Round 2

OOC: If you like, Dellrak’s action first round can be hauling the rafts firmly onto the island so everyone can get off to safety without having to worry about them floating away.

Seeing Chrysagon’s plight, Dellrack grabbed his axe and swung hard at the assassin vine holding the cleric.

Seeing the vine sieze Chrysagon, Miss Imogen's first thought was whether this was the same thing - the same creature? - that had just submerged in the river. How do you fight a root system, she wondered, as her hand hesitates over the quiver.

No. She doesn't pull another arrow. Reaching out, she feels the moisture in the soil around the plant, the warmth of the loam, and she draws it into herself. This chills the soil, which seems then to slide towards her. Will this tear the roots? Will it help Chrysagon? She does not know, but the warmth she has taken almost instantly dissipates, and she is cool and comfortable once again.

OOC: As in the OOC, cast Move earth on the soil with the vine.

Location: Aldani Basin; Encounter: Shambling Mound

Dellrak, Rodrigo, & Ukee

Dellrak hauled the raft up onto the little island of mud and roots. Rodrigo disembarked and looked into the rippling water. The flying monkey flew into a stunted tree and she also looked for the mound, with no success.

OOC: Rodrigo didn't use his action, so @Ancalagon can roll Perception for a search action. This will make a big difference if he spots the mound.

End Round One; Begin Round Two

OOC: Y'know, except for you who have already posted round two.

GM: Here's where everyone was at beginning round two. I'll start resolving round two posts asap.
