D&D 5E (IC) Fitz's Folly

FitzTheRuke

Legend
Dellrak rushed toward Chrysagon and the grappling vines. The two rafts had been put to shore on the largest, driest land-masses that were nearby, but the two masses were separated by a short, shallow channel. It was thick with swamp-grass and the water, muck, and roots between them had not been apparent when the Sticks had first paddled over. Dellrak quickly found himself knee-deep in the swamp as he hustled to help.

To make matters worse, the roots and vines underfoot, below the surface of the shallow water were as animate as the other threatening plants, and they wrapped around his ankles as he trudged through the muck.

OOC: I'm gonna need KahlessNestor Dellrak to make a dc13 Strength Save or get Restrained in the muck & twitching vines between the two island-peaks. If he makes it, he can just make it to the Assassin Vine and make your posted attack, otherwise he can use his action to try to escape with a dc13 Athletics check, or do something else if you choose.

Dellrak sank to his waist in the channel between the two islands and found himself in the grip the underwater vegetation. With the bullheadedness dwarves were known for, he merely charged on through toward his entangled companion to slash at the attacking vine.

Harb searched the water hoping to spot the threat in the deep before it could arise again and give some warning to the others that they could properly defend themselves.

Legend
Miss Imogen, Dellrak, & Chrysagon

Imogen tapped in to some newfound power, causing some of the muck of the little island to slide toward the channel between the two dry(ish) mounds. Dellrak plunged into the water there, stomping his way through writhing roots that threatened to wrap his legs. He reached the mass of writhing vines as it slid toward him, still clutching Chrysagon in long vine-tendrils. The Dwarf hacked away, trying to free his ally to no avail as Chrysagon succumbed to the choking vines, which also held miniature barbs that unleashed a powerful toxin.

OOC: It's not easy to see on the map, and was supposed to be invisible at first anyway, but the two rafts put down on two separate mounds of earth. There's water between, somewhat masked by grasses. Now, the muck is a frothing mass of difficult terrain that is also hazardous - the effect that Dellrak saved against. Rodrigo might not want to go that way.

GM: Sorry this has taken so long.
Damage Taken:
(BGs) AssassinVine 11 (Dellrak's Axe);
(PCs) Chrysagon 31 poison (Vines, mentioned previously, Dying!);

Harb could sense the desperate scene playing out not so far away from him. He longed to go to his allies aid, but a greater threat was looming in the water below. And thus, he watched the water for any sign of the creature in it, and where it might appear next.

He was looking in the wrong place though, at first. The creatures movements were alien to him. It was only the urgent warnings of Ukee that directed him to look in the right place. There, a strange bulge of water, discolored only slightly from the rest. Thus, he pointed and called out to the others."There! The creature will emerge soon!

Legend
Harb, Rodrigo & Hup'lo vs Mound

The nameless man known as Harb called out a warning just in time to save Hup'lo's life. The tribesman saw it a split-second before the animate mound of earth and plants exploded from the murky water of the swamp. It landed on the side of the raft and swatted at him with a grassy paw-like appendage. Hup'lo twisted at the last second and avoided a heavy blow, then as the weight of the creature lifted the end of the raft on which he stood (the other end plunging into the water of the swamp), the tribesman climbed the now nearly upright raft. Twigs and sharp barbs that stuck out of the creature raked at his back as he climbed, desperately trying to get away.

Rodrigo reached up with one arm and grabbed the closest of the two logs that made up the main part of the raft. As the log raised to upright, he held on and swung around to the other side, slashing at the Mound with his rapier.

Kasqa, Qawasha & Weed

Trying to free Chrysagon, Kasqa thrust the raft's pole into the mass of vines, which wrapped around the wood and he struggled to bring it free. Qawasha beat at them with his shillelagh, crushing some of the vines which let out a sweet-smelling white puss. Weed slung a stone, which harmlessly was lost in the leaves of the vine-like creature.

GM: Rodrigo needs to make a dc12 Acrobatics check if you want to swing back around to the other side of the raft. Success will give you a free disengage, failure will cause you to fall in the water at M19.
Damage Taken:
(BGs) Mound 8 (Rodrigo's Rapier); Vine 5 (Qawasha's shillelagh)
(PCs) None;
