Creating characters: top tips to tell your players if they're trying to make combat-capable characters.

-- try to get one attack up to 5d6. That's 6 (3d6) in an attribute and 3 (2d6) in a skill. Or a little less if they can afford high quality weapons.

-- don't forget defensive skills. Try to get those defence pools up, or you'll get hit a lot. Remember, you can exchange skills for defensive skills at any time.

-- increase damage with either Deadly Strike or a weapon upgrade (or both!) at your first opportunity.

-- if you don't swap attack dice for damage, a lot of your attacks will bounce off.

-- if you don't use positioning/aim/feint to get the shot, a lot of your attacks will miss.

-- remember exploits and positioning are applied *after* the 5d6 cap and can exceed it.

-- don't forget it's just 3xp for rank 1 in a skill. That's an extra d6 right there!

-- monsters have four DEFENSES, and nearly aways at least one of them is weak. If you can't hit, try attacking a different defence.

-- Use LUCK dice to boost your rolls!

Remember that the monsters and NPCs in the Bestiary follow these guidelines, and are designed assuming you have, so if you don't you'll struggle!
