Days 134 - 149: Safe Harbor to Southroad Fair

San-Bolo greet the sailors and Bulywif, telling them the story of how these soldiers came to be here and the thwarted attack against Southroad Fair.
Tor's father and the former Pilot listen intently to the tale. Bulywif responds by discussing the construction of the skiffs and the relocation of the ship and about the main sail being removed and strung in the trees to create a rain block in the center of the camp where the cooking is done. "We have still been sleeping on the ship. It was convenient. We will need to start constructing sleeping structures for our new residents."
In response to the sails, Sannit says, "You already know how to build ships so that's one thing off our list. We know of some tribes that sail the Lunaedriac. We will travel to them and see if they have any sails that they will trade for."
Bulywif nods his head. "We are not equipped to trade. It will likely be two more generations before that becomes viable. We are, however, quite self-sufficient. I cannot understand why several of the indigenous peoples are nomadic. The sea provides us with meat and salt. The river with water, and the jungle with wood and fruit. With the application of sails, we can extend our fishing range so that we do not risk shorting the local fish population. Outside of the reef, we can also hope for larger fish. We can offer some form of payment."

Bulywif digs in a pouch he is carrying and pulls forth a palm-sized, bright red, piece of coral that has been rubbed smooth and even looks polished. It has a compelling beauty to it and may prove desirable to others for exchange of goods. "We found this washed up on the beach to the east of the river outlet."

Since no one else brooches the subject, Sheldon inquires about the disturbing totems.

Bulywif rolls his eyes and motions for the former Quartermaster. "His idea. I will let him explain."

The quartermaster grins sheepishly. "It seems silly to us but it help deter several of the hostile peoples of the jungle. I do not know what superstitions they follow, but the cannibals do the same thing and are put off by the display. It is better than having to fight them."

Bolo will go hunting and search for useful plants.
Sheldon and Indigo, both, join Bolo in the search, seeing that no help will be needed with fishing. The group is successful in acquiring small game and edible plants but does not happen across anything dangerous or medicinal.

Turtle plunges into the water for some fresh fish. He tries to leave some for the rest of them.
Turtle, always a source of entertainment, enjoys splashing in the surf and catching fish. He elects to remain close to shore after once venturing too deep and seeing incomprehensible sights.

Vadin spends the week intermingling with the locals but takes no definitive acts of note.

Tor nods in agreement.
After spending five days in Safe Harbor, the Seekers gather their horses, leaving the wagon and its supplies and wade/swim back across the river heading East. It is completely unknown if a more direct route could be taken through the jungle and not currently worth the delay if one cannot. After an additional 10 days of travel, the Seekers arrive at a peaceable and increasingly populated Southroad Fair.

San-bolo follow their usual pattern when returning to town. They will check for any maintenance issues with the guildhouse and meet with their friends at the Boar's Head. Sannit will continue to tell the tale of the Seekers while Bolo sits and watches everyone else.
To the Seekers Sannit says, "I suggest we set off for Bergbaulager after a few days of visiting in town."

Tor does some light sweeping and cleanup at the Guild House while he's in town, and both Merin and Tor will head to the tannery to see about getting their armor mended / reinforced, to compensate not only for battle damage, but also for the wear and tear resulting from daily usage. Merin will also put the two Palladium ingots into his pouch, in case he has need of them in combat. He realizes that the ingots would strongly enhance his already formidable powers with Sonic Way. Merin also checks in with Giodavi, in order to assess the amount of dividends that the party has accumulated from their interest in the olive trade. He wants to get an exact figure of how many clams have been paid out so far.

When he has a moment, Tor will examine the Eagle Skull, to determine its Way proclivities, and also its possible usefulness as a head covering.

Tor says, "If it's of sufficient strength, and if it doesn't hinder one's line of sight, it would make a wonderful helm, especially considering the morale effect it would have upon the superstitious, hostile, indigenous peoples."

Following Tor's lead, Merin will examine the Eagle Claws, to determine their proclivities as well.

Merin has a thought: "We should take a bit of money with us to Bergbaulager. And some of the iron ore as well. We need to see if they've had time to craft any metal-based equipment that we might find useful."

Tor nods in agreement.

Y 2: Days 149 - 159: Southroad Fair

Town business proceeds as usual. Village members seem to go out of their way to interact with the Seekers. Children find time to spend with Turtle, who highly enjoys the play.

Scouting crew have not only grown in size with the new recruits to town, they have become more efficient and more skilled. Trade of pork has begun with the new tavern on the river and the road to Boga City in return for fish. The larger river produces more fish than can be acquired in town. Additionally, a day's worth of travel has been cleared on the road construction to Bergbaulager.

Everyone who needs such has repair done to all gear. Swift Raven and Fallen Leaf discuss the slow increase in their business with hope for the future. Lyndha goes over the town books with the members of the Seekers who are interested.

Seeing that Tor has been studying the newly acquired giant eagle skull and Merin the talons with no success, Sheldon offers that the items do, indeed, harbor some proclivity of Way lines, but that no one of the party is of a skill, yet, to analyze them. The skull is stored in the Guild House for the time being, along with the talons.

After a brief discussion the party decides not only to take some coin to Bergbaulager but also all of the collected ore, seeing that it is useless to have it sit in town. Riding horseback with Turtle trotting along beside, it will take 4 days to reach the Maldrog city instead of 12.

Merin will further practice his cartography skills by drawing maps along the way, making a special effort to record landmarks and to get the scale as close to accurate as possible.

Sannit is pleased with the quality of work with regard to the formstion of a definitive road to Bergbaulager. Though the progress has only extended to a day’s journey from Southroad Fair, it is a good indication of what can be expected.

After a brief discussion, it is decided that Sheldon and Torvald should focus on game while Bolo and Indigo focus on plants, so as to not waste meat. Indigo quickly realizes that Bolo has a talent for foraging that is quite better than her own. Bolo realizes that her own skill is much better than that of Turtle, even with his sense of smell. The group locates a basket worth of edible fruit and one measure of Mend Leaf.

Tor shakes his head during the excursion. He is amazed at how much Sheldon’s particular skill to track game now far exceeds his own. He feels satisfied to put an arrow in the fat sow, that the two come across. It takes both men to efficiently carry the beast, even after gutting it. As the two near the campsite, they realize that they are being followed by a dangerous predator, but it has yet remained unseen.

The formation of the road and its proximity to the river give Merindell good landmarks and topography to detail his improving map. The other Seekers examine the drawing, making comments and giving praises.

The party has currently traveled about half of the intended distance. The land has become more hilly and the dominant vegetation of pines has become interspersed with hardwoods.

As Tor and Sheldon return to camp, Tor mentions the danger to everyone.

Tor says, "I could sense a dangerous predator following us. I'm sure Sheldon felt it also. It remained hidden; I suspect it is watching us. My guess is, that it is more interested in the carcass than in us. It is probably waiting for an opportune moment to steal our kill."

Sannit says, "I don't know of any predator out here that can challenge us, but we should keep an eye out for it. It might try to go for the horses."

Bolo says, "Turtle and I will see if we can get the scent to know what we are dealing with."

Turtle will follow Bolo, his nose ready.

Merin says, "No matter how big of a fish we become, there's always a bigger fish out there, somewhere. Asylum should have taught us that. Why don't the rest of you spread out, and see what you can find. I will stay here, and protect the Windrunners. They are a valuable asset to us, and must not be neglected."
