How often is counterspell used in your games?

As the poll says.

Just curious how prevalent counterspell actually is (obviously level 5+).

Not every day features a fight against a spellcaster. Maybe 1/3 days.

On those days, Counterspell is used about twice per round for the duration of the encounter. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

It's okay, you just need more experience working the poll.

Counterspell is pretty infrequently used in my games as I have a player pool which means the frequency with which a wizard might be at a given session is low.

Never tried from the mobile app before.

But lets see how actual responses pan out.

Yeah, this. It totally depends on the presence of a spellcasting enemy.

When it can be used, it gets used a lot.

Last campaign, I had two players able to cast counterspell.

In fights with spellcasters, counterspell was used about 2-3 times per round, including enemy NPCs using it on the players.

Where's the "annoyingly often" option? I guess it depends on level and enemy of course, but in my wife's last campaign we were quite caster heavy and dispels-of-dispels-of-dispels would happen.

I get it ... countering the bad guy is awesome. It was also kind of annoying.

Almost every time there's an encounter with an enemy spellcaster and the party has a sorcerer, warlock or wizard of 5th level or higher. Sometimes multiple times per encounter.

(a) Do we have a caster with access to counterspell (on list, of sufficient level)
No - not used
Yes - go to (b)

(b) Is there an enemy caster?
No - then it's not used
Yes - got to (c)

(c) Does the caster have several slots of appropriate level left
Yes - counterspell is used
No - go to (d)

(d) Is this a big bad?
Yes - counterspell is used anyway
No - save the slot for later
