LOL They, like almost all magic items are put away when you sleep. You just toss it back up there when you are done getting dressed. Like armor, or a weapon, or boots, etc.. The primary function of Ioun Stones isn't for sleeping. I mean, I assume you're not sleeping with a necklace of fireballs around your neck risking popping a bead off when tossing in your sleep, right? How is this a serious issue about "how does it even work"?
