GM: | Adisakti and Taylar are able to find some suitable sapling to bend. Using some of the cord made from the intestines of previously collected game, the two are able to set two loop snares in, what they feel, is a good location along the well-traveled path. | |
Each crew members makes a bedding location upon the porch area of the above keep, no one near its eastern edge. The birds do not return that evening or during the night. At night was certainly not expected since all known songbirds go to roost at night. The late hours of the night bring some strange and loud squealing and growling from far below, waking everyone except Vittero, who is not yet fully cognizant.
The squealing stops almost as soon as it starts, Adi and Taylar knowing that it came from the direction of the snares. being too dark to see, the everyone decides to return to sleep and investigate with the morning light. The Mourner Birds do not return with the morning, either. Anticipation is keen as sleep is rubbed from the eyes, and everyone prepares to descend, including Vittero, who has completely recovered.
Moving as quickly as possible without twisting an ankle or provoking a fall, the crew turns the final bend to stare agape at the disappointment before them. The ground is marred and scored with signs of an obvious struggle. One of the saplings is permanently bent out of shape, and both snares are broken. Whatever the culprit it was small enough to trigger the devices, yet much too strong for them to hold. The area stinks of adrenaline fueled urine, as well.
The animal trail follows the curvature of the cliff rise and then dips into a small ravine that etches back into the stone , the depth shadowed by a larger tree on the opposite side of the trail. Some low growling is heard just before the sound of a clawed animal tearing from its hole. Clambering up the trail facing the party is a weasel like animal, three times larger size, with blood on its claws and in its bared teeth. Though related to the weasel or mink, Fishers are far more vicious and dangerous animals, willing to attack beasts more than twice their own size. The animal, stringing a bit of cord behind it, seems none too happy with the intrusion.
